QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Lucas Harrell with 6 shutout innings so far. Charlotte leading big. Anderson not in the lineup. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...94&sid=t494 Harrell has been looking pretty good this year, though his BB numbers in Charlotte have been a bit high until today. Is it possible he is fully recovered from his injury, and can blossom into the pitcher we thought we had prior to it? That would be an awfully nice surprise.

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) 5 reasons BA got sent down 1. Brian can't hit. 2. Pods is a good lead-off hitter 3. Wise can steal bases off the bench, lead-off, & he is getting healthier every day 4. Nix can fill in at LF & RF 5. Options-BA has some. FYI- Wise has not played enough to use his batting average as a reference. LOL, Wise can lead off? He's worse than Andy Gonzales, how can you say he can lead off? Also LOL at "Brian can't hit", even though he his hitting 40 points better than Wise, has better career numbers, and better minor league numbers. And the FYI is a little one-sided as well, that cuts both ways.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) I really do not see the appeal of the Smart car. It's not very practical, its not particularly efficient, and it isn't exactly cheap, either. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) But it is cute! I'm pretty sure I used the logic path in a number of my previous dating relationships.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Actual safety test data. Why would I buy a "smart" car with almost no room in it and some safety questions that gets mileage more or less in the 30's, when I can buy a Prius with much more room and 50 mpg and lower emissions for roughly the same money?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) From the minor league perspective, Charlotte's roster has 1 too many active players. So, if Torres goes up and someone goes down, there has to be corresponding moves made. Someone like Jeffrey Marquez could go on the DL, maybe someone is released, a limited player like Daryle Ward. Considering that Charlotte now has 6 outfielders (Anderson, Cook, Hopper, Kroeger, Negron & Restovich), there's a possible release candidate. I wouldn't rule out a trade of a major league reliever for a few low level minor leaguers, Kanny and W-S have open roster space and could use pitchers. W-S and Kanny may need pitchers, but Kanny has a bunch of guys ready for promotion, so I don't think you need to go get anyone from outside the org.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Wouldn't Poreda be taking his rotation spot? That is my guess. Also possible that Cassel goes back to Charlotte again, though he hasn't exactly been blowing away AA batters either.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) If Guillen was racist then someone has to explain to me why he keeps bringing Linebrink in during close games. He's not racist, he's just sometimes petty.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) He ran pretty good yesterday. I think SHIPPS is maybe trying for the anti-jinx. I don't think he's seriously THAT convinced he can't contribute.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Two hikers were found dead and three other are still missing in this area. That might sound extreme except that the temps have peaked between 113-118 these past 5 days. So tax payers have to take the burden of a search mission for these f*ckbags. Rescue operations are almost always billed to the people rescued. They won't always recover the full amount, but they can take them to court, so they will almost always get at least some of the money. What they can't take back though, is the risk and danger they put the rescuers in. Of course, we don't know what happened to them, they may not have been stupid. But the majority of these rescues are indeed rescuing people from their own stupidity.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) Are Flowers numbers on the game summary only from Charlotte, or are they combined with his Birmingham numbers? Just Charlotte.

ChiSox looking to deal Dotel/Linebrink?
NorthSideSox72 replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) Is Nunez an option this year if a trade like this happens? He's been doing pretty well in AAA, better than Link. The only guy in the Charlotte pen who you can say has put up better numbers this year, maybe, is Derek Rodriguez. -
Do my eyes deceive me, or did Derek Rodriguez get a start for Charlotte? Are they converting him?

QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Hold rate sure does. It can show the hold rate literally, but doesn't adjust for the types of hits going to RF, what the infielders on the right are letting through and not letting through, ballpark factors... Stats are great, but running on arm events are just too rare to get meaningful statistical data, IMO. You can get some indicators like that, but they are flawed, in my view.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) They're different players. Hopper has a .316 BA in almost 400 major league AB's and also has a career .300+ BA in AAA. He has virtually no power, but he has speed and gets on base. I'd rather have someone like that over Cook. We have enough guys who can hit the long ball. I dont want to see either of them this year, but if we had to I think Hopper would be our best bet for what this team needs. I could live with that.

Do we need a Wise thread, when there are THREE ALREADY? No, so I'm merging some.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I am fine with this if we call up another guy to take Wise's place, like Hopper, Cook, Restovich, etc. Or trade for a fourth outfielder. I really dont care as long as Wise isnt on this team anymore. I don't think Restovich can play CF, so its really Hopper or Cook. And Hopper looks like another Wise to me, or similar. And Cook is of course an unknown, though he has put up far better minor league numbers than either of the other two have.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) The playing area on all MLB parks should be the same dimensions. Same distance from home plate to the walls, same amount of foul territory, same height of the outfield walls. Boooooooo. I'll pass on the McBallparks, thanks. I like that each stadium has its nuances.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Everything suggests otherwise. 2006. 2007. 2008. Outfield arm runs above average. 2002... -3.9 2003... -2.9 2004... -2.4 2005... -1.5 2006... -4.0 2007... -5.7 2008... -3.9 2009... -0.7 I know I risk the ire of the stat-heads here, but, I personally don't think that stats can give you a good idea of how good an OF's arm is. There are just so many variables that even create those situations where it comes into play, and so few events in the numerator, that the values just don't mean much. And it doesn't take into account the times when players don't attempt to take the extra base because of who is there.

ChiSox looking to deal Dotel/Linebrink?
NorthSideSox72 replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Well, considering we're 1.5 games back right now, I'd say we're not trading our closer or setup men right now. I think we have more setup men now than are needed. I agree on Jenks though, he's not getting traded this season, unless the Sox utterly collapse. Wouldn't surprise me to see Dotel traded, which still gives us Thornton, Linebrink and Pena for setup work. I'm probably in the minority, but I think Linebrink still can put it together. -
Questions for pitching prospect Dan Remenowsky
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
OK, last chance to contribute questions. I am closing the thread and sending the questions in the next couple days. Anything else? -
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) How long till D2 is ready?? Let him develop, and he's looking like a future starter, not a guy you want riding on the bench instead of improving through full time play.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Hawk said hes worthy of a Gold Glove this year. He wouldn't lie to me. hiney-bird.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Maybe we'll acquire a real backup OF. I think the Sox would love to trade Anderson, but he's a throw-in at best now. If Cook hits anything in AAA for the next month or so (he just got there), he has to be in the discussion as well, if Wise continues to be Wise.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) I'm not saying he's a Gold Glove (not that it means anything anymore) RF with a cannon arm, but his arm certainly isn't poor. Just a choice of wording I disagree with. It's still quite above average. Agree, his arm is still better than average. And he is still decent (not great) on getting reads. But his range, his glove work, his footwork... all bad.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Wise can pinch run. last year his ph stats gave at least some indication that he can grab a bat cold and PH I wanna throw those two things in there but will not participate in an argument b/c obviously the guy has had a horrible offensive year. All it really comes down to is - Anderson's fielding or having a guy who's probably a little better with delivering with sac flies etc. And taking 2nd base as a PR when it's available to you in those tight 9th innings Anderson is actually pretty quick on the basepaths, though Wise can actually steal and BA really doesn't do that well. Its not about any sort of logical argument. At all. Its a personal thing - some combination of not liking BA's attitude, or Ozzie liking Wise, or whatever.
