ChiSox looking to deal Dotel/Linebrink?
NorthSideSox72 replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) Which would explain the Tony Pena acquisition. Not sure if I buy that we're trying to trade Dotel/Liney but it wouldn't shock me either. Exactly what I thought as well (about Pena). And it makes me feel more sure that one of the bullpen arms is headed out the door in a trade, to be replaced by Nunez probably, or possibly Link. -
Great to see TCQ back. Wise over BA? As someone else said earlier, I give up. Its clear that Ozzie (and/or KW) have no logical reason to do this, so, they must have some personal or "gut" reason, and they aren't changing their minds. Fortunately, its just the backup we are talking about. I won't go as far as wanting Wise to get injured, or even wanting him to fail. My only hope at this point is that Wise gets thrown into some sort of trade as a filler for some other squad. Or that Wise retires.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) You guys are the ones who went after me and turned an observation into a 'buster topic. I went here: http://wonder.cdc.gov/Census.HTML and did a search and found that the minorities of those 4 states are 1/3 to 1/2 Hispanic. It was a generality. Please stop.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Problem is proving it. That is why I said SERIOUS accident, where there is an investigation of some kind, witness statements, etc. Minor accidents, it would never stick.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) ...just like there are many left wing loonies in Chicago. You are totally ruining the fun here, party pooper.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Only if eating, reading a map, changing a CD in the CD player, smoking, etc...while driving are treated the same way I think the best way to handle these sorts of things is, if in the course of investigating a serious accident, they find that the driver was distracted by something like that, there should be a circumstance of aggravation attached to the charges. Something that makes it more serious, with stiffer penalties.

Doesn't make much sense. If he's injured, he isn't playing OF OR DH. Very rarely would some injury happen where he could DH but not play the OF. Plus with guys like Dye, Thome and PK in the mix, they are all better candidates. And when TCQ is healthy, he is a decent OF.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) It's what midwesterners would think. Chicago has one of the largest hispanic populations in the country, so, not sure that makes any sense.

Finally got a chance to watch the trailers in this thread. --The Sherlock Holmes movies looks awful. --D-9 I am not sure, could be really good. --Hurt Locker looks intriguing. --Big Fan looks very good.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) I took a year's worth of Russian history last year. The Russian history guy at Iowa State f***ing rocks. I have oodles of typed notes if you're interested, though my class was more of a survey. And yes, the Revolution was kinda out of nowhere. Is he the same guy who teaches Russian as a language? I took that at ISU, if its the same guy, I think his name was Beynin or Beysden or something like that. The dude could speak 8 languages and was clearly an ex-spook. -
Ozzie and his Usage of Aaron Poreda.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Clearly Ozzie believes that by giving Wise almost all the AB's against RHP, he can capture (or recapture) his .800 OPS against them in the second half and get on a hot streak finally, like at the end of 2008. Defensively, there's obviously no comparison. That and the fact he also believes Wise's speed on the basepaths is more valuable to the line-up than BA's defense in the field. So it's really, 640 OPS BA versus 800 (if he can do it) OPS Wise, and that's clearly a decision that could go either way, with arguments on both sides. Also clearly, BA didn't do anything to prove he should play everyday or get more playing time. Wise is not an .800 OPS hitter against RHP. He's a career .631 OPS guy against righties, who happen to hit .800 vs RHP for one small part of one season. BA is a career .655 OPS hitter vs RHP, .021 better than Wise. So I sincerly hope that Ozzie isn't thinking that the few weeks of decent hitting that Wise gave us in 2008 is not an indication of his talent level. I tend to think he's smarter than that. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Really? That's the best you've got? This is Ozzie's way of demonstrating to KW that he needs something different, putting Wise out there every day? Yeah, that's weak. I was thinking though, I really do have a theory now as to why Ozzie played Wise all three games this past series. And no, its not "cuz he's fasssssssssssssssst". I think they are probably going to be getting rid of Wise in the next few days, when Quentin returns, and they are trying to give DeWayne more playing time on the off chance some other organization wants to have him. Not that he's worth anything in trade probably, but at least Wise can go get a job. Just my recent pet theory. I could very well be wrong. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) That wasn't Ben Davis. um... what? Random post?

Ozzie and his Usage of Aaron Poreda.
NorthSideSox72 replied to ThunderBolt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am usually a defender of Ozzie, because I think he is doing things at times that people here don't see the long term view on. However, this season, there are two things he has done which are just not good, short or long term. One is the DeWayne Wise show (and don't talk to me about 1 at-bat today). The other is, Poreda is just sitting there in the 'pen getting rusty, which makes zero sense. I don't care so much exactly what situations he has him go in, I just want to see him pitch some damn innings. He's being misused and it drives me nuts. -
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) Bristol won 4-3 in 12 innings. Linky: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...brirok_dnvrok_1 Brady Shoemaker - 3-6, 2Bs, Game Tying HR in the 9th. Not bad. Oh, and he had 4 RBIs too. Ryan Lee, 41st round pick of the 2009 draft went 2-4, 2BBs. He's hitting .333 in the Appy. Daniel Wagner, 16th round pick of the 2009 draft had his 7th stolen base. And Joseph Serafin, all 5'10" of him, a 0.39 ERA in 6 games?!?!? 29 IP/13 hits allowed/3 BBs/16 Ks. Nice. He was pick #37 this year too. Tell ya what. These guys may/may not make it, but it is sure fun following them! Serafin and Shoemaker look like they are a little too advanced for Appy play. Not sure where there is room for them to move up to, though.

Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition

Disregard my post in the 7/19 games thread, I didn't notice the Greene promotion. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) I barely noticed Corley's numbers. Man, there sure were a ton of dominant pitchers on that team. I had actually noticed him and put him in my Top 30, but, I really hate that he was promoted over Remenowsky. Makes no sense to me. -
Serafin looks, in admitedly few games, like he doesn't belong in the Appy. Maybe we seem him in Kanny before the year is out. Also interesting... Justin Greene hit 3rd in the Kanny lineup instead of leadoff yesterday, and today isn't even in the lineup. Did he maybe get promoted and we haven't heard about it yet?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) professional wrestling is the pointless, and I can't believe people pay lots of money to watch something completely fake. I agree is pointless, but really what it comes down to is, its not a sport. Its more akin to ballet, or a stage play, or film as Tex said. It takes skill and athleticism, but it is absolutely not a sport. A sport denotes competition - there is no competition when the outcome is predetermined and scripted.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Look, I know my limits. But you can't honestly tell me having 8 beers in 6 hours and then driving is going to end up with me driving 10 MPH under the speed limit and swerving between lanes. If I'm too bad to drive, I know it and won't do it. I passed a police officer on the way back that night and didn't get stopped. Don't you think if I was doing what you said I was, I would have gotten stopped... As for Tank Johnson, he got pulled over for speeding (going 40mph in a 30, I believe), not driving erratically. And I'm pretty sure speeding is something sober people do too. So that argument doesn't really work. You won't believe this now, but you'll probably understand it when you aren't still 20 and in the fraternity (and before you think that's ain insult, its not, I was in one myself). You belief in your supposed control here is 100% delusional. Its simple chemistry - your body is not the same when .08% of your blood is alcohol - its just not. The science is very simple. Any thought you have that you are not effected by it is just completely false. Hopefully you figure that out through maturity, and not the hard way.
