  1. Daniel Remenowsky, RHP Born 4/7/1986 in Cincinnati, OH 6’5”, 245 Throws: R Bats: R OVERVIEW Dan Remenowsky is one of a few undrafted free agent signees in the Sox system (others include CJ Retherford and Ehren Wassermann). I couldn’t find anything about his “stuff”, velocity, or other scouting type details, other than an SSS post quoting a “source” who says “He locates better tghan anyone else I have seen in the league”. Same post though, says he doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but that a promotion to W-S should be expected soon. But his results, especially for someone who wasn’t drafted, are pretty eye-popping. As of this writing, at Low A Kanny, he has 31 K, against just 3 BB, in 16.1 IP. His GO/AO is also quite good, and he has a WHIP of 0.98. These peripherals were also very solid last year in Rookie ball. And he is currently the closer for Kannapolis – again, pretty surprising for a guy who no one thought to draft. Below is what little information I could dig up on his background. PERSONAL/PRE-COLLEGE NOTES Remenowsky attended Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played and graduated in 2004. I was not able to get any of his high school stats. COLLEGE Dan pitched at Otterbein College, in Westerville, Ohio (Division III), where he was first team, All-Conference in all four seasons, and was the OAC conference pitcher of the year in his last three years straight. He also holds the school record for lifetime ERA (2.44), and shutouts (10), and is 2nd all time in wins (31) and strikeouts (296). He was also third team All American in 2006, going 9-4 with a 1.94 ERA, striking out 94. In 2008, his senior season, he was named Mideast Regional Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. His strikeout numbers actually dropped to only 57 in 60 IP that senior year (had 94 the previous year), which may be why he wasn’t drafted. SIGN/DRAFT Undrafted, signed with the White Sox on 7/14/08 by Doug Laumann (Director of Scouting), who scouted him as he pitched in the Frontier League. He pitched in two games (one as a starter), over 10.2 IP, putting up a 1.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, striking out 12 while walking 3. 2. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Before he picked Roberts, I remember a press conference where Bush jokingly nodded towards Alberto Gonzalez. Holy s*** that would have been awful. Yes, as bad as Alito is (and he is by far the worst on that court IMO), Gonzalez would have been like making Andy Gonzalez your everyday leadoff hitter.
  3. I'll admit it, Pods is doing far better than I thought he would. No question that he and Anderson are a better choice than Wise, who I hope stays behind those two in the pecking order. Trib says TCQ back by the weekend anyway, so hopefully that means Wise stays in Charlotte. I still think Pods is pretty awful on D, and doesn't belong in CF, but his bat has been a nice surprise. His speed also helps, as long as he isn't trying to steal.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Already digging out the quotes: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male[...]" “court of appeals is where policy is made.” I saw that first quote earlier, and I have to say it does bother me a bit. The second quote I hadn't seen, but the word "policy" is fuzzy anyway. She didn't say law, but she also didn't say precedence or jurisprudence. So here is one that threw me for a loop... the articles I've read are saying she would be the first Hispanic named to the court. I actually thought Alito was hispanic, but I guess he's not.
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) i actually didn't sense much frustration from the game thread at all... in fact, a couple of us were pulling for him to start and then finish the sixth because of how hard he was busting his butt out there. i love me some danksy. Were you reading the same game thread I was? For the first couple innings it was a mire of how bad everything on the team was, the whole team sucks, the world is falling apart, etc., etc.
  6. I wouldn't quite say he's as good at battling through a bad day as MB, but I agree it was nice to see him work that out. He's becoming a more mature pitcher now.
  7. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ May 25, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Outside of Sauer's very good K:BB ratio, his GB:FB ratio is really eye popping. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself in Winston-Salem soon. By that logic, Dan Remenowsky should be on his way the Dash as well. Even after his worst outing of the year the other day, he's got 31 K against 3 BB in 16.1 IP, and a 2.75 GO/AO (was 5.50 recently, but he allows so few balls in play that it seems to fluctuate pretty wildly).
  8. LOL, I swear I have the lead touch. Every time I say something like "hey, look at such-and-such, he's looking great", they inevitably stink it up within a day or two. This time, Dan Remenowsky comes back down to earth, giving up 2 ER in 0.2 IP to blow a 1-0 lead and take the loss. Someone stop me.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Cassel with another promising performance. 7 IP, 3 H, 2BB, 6 K, 0 R He skidded out of the gate when he came off the DL, looked terrible. But his last two outings have been quite good - maybe he's really back to 100% now.
  10. Last night, JC made his 3rd start for Charlotte... 5.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 HR Not great.
  11. Did Brian change his stance a bit? I just mistook him for Paulie out of the corner of my eye.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) It's really fun to watch Brian get a break in CF.....he gets AWESOME jumps. That was such a Brian moment. Great break to make a good catch, then forgot how many outs there were. After realizing there were only two, he made sure to tell Pods, Dye, and the crowd in CF that there were in fact 2 outs.
  13. So, it seems that while Kanny does have some solid pitching (despite Edwards getting hit today), their lineup is awful. Gilmore is the only guy whose bat is even worth mentioning.
  14. Charlotte down 4-1 in the 2nd, Whisler getting hit around. B-Ham wins Game 1 of a DH 3-2 in 8 innings. Ely a good outing, Beckham, Danks and CJ with 2 hits each. B-Ham Game 2 starts soon, Zaleski will be the starter. W-S already losing 7-0 in the 3rd, J-Lowe couldn't complete the third inning, got crushed. Kanny down 2-1 in the 2nd, Edwards pitching and struggling a bit, Gilmore 1-1 with the one RBI.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 22, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Give me a break. Oh and by the way, I do think "holy war" was a bit strong, but not much. He wants a new world order, and I really do think his fears have warped him into believing that Islam and the Middle Eastern culture as a whole are the enemy.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 22, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Give me a break. I am astounded by the staggering profundity of your artfully crafted retort.
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) I don't always like using the Sox draft history to cast doubts on those currently in the system(it isn't fair to them), however, given this teams inability to devolp pitchers consistantly, having to give up Ely and Hudson isn't that tough of a pill to swallow. Again, I don't want to make it sound like the enitre system is awful, or Hudson and Ely aren't worth a s***, but at this point they are lower level prospects, and if can get you Jake Peavy, you bite. I probably would too - this isn't nearly as big a factor as the opt-out. But it does have an effect on the decision, in my view. Looking at it, if he DOESN'T get the opt-out, and you are sending Richard-Poreda-Ely-Hudson, I probably do it. Not 100% sure though, as you have to figure one of those guys ends up being very good. Pretty much anything below Ely-Hudson, I don't hesitate. Well, unless they ask for Ehren Wassermann, then its no deal.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) As far as I know, 2 PTBNL, both of them pitchers. The only reason to use PTBNL at this point of the season, where there's no rule 5 draft to worry about, is to give the pitchers more time to develop before naming them. People have mentioned a number of names including Hudson, Ely, Broadway, etc., I'm not sure if any of us really know who would have been on the list. Who the PRBNL's are definitely matters. If its Hudson and Ely, that's a pretty big haul to add to Poreda and Richard. If its Levi Maxwell and John Lowe, then who bloody cares. My guess is it would end up being guys between those sets.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) Every single politician who gets elected to any office in this country does so on a promise to clean up the waste. It may only be a small part of their campaign, but they always add it in. Others (Arnold) make it the centerpiece of their campaign. Then they get in there and realize...there's a little bit that can be cleaned up, but it's never anywhere near what they claim it is...and it's just like any other business, there's good people and bad people. At least these guys weren't supposed to be the watchdog's keeping an eye on AIG. Those guys napped for like 10 years. And just like in private business, you can do a lot more of that than many companies are willing to. Some do it right. Cook County does not, and they may be the worst of them.
  20. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) overused term. i don't really see any hate, maybe some anger. the same could be said of Al Gore when he is speaking on his agenda. I don't think they are the same. Cheney wants a holy war, involving violence, and sees that cause as higher than the Constitution or anything else. Gore's agenda doesn't include death.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Kenny's public statement left the door WIDE open... Yeah I know, but... it just seems so not Kenny, after Peavy turned them down that way.
