  1. I kid you not... now about to start filming, with the original cast... Ghostbusters III.
  2. If not for the opt-out he asked for, I think its still a deal to seriously consider. With the opt-out, I say pass.
  3. Wait, what? Its not over yet? I'd be shocked if KW of all people would let Peavy publically reject him, and still acquire him, at the ridiculous terms he is supposedly asking for. Actually, the rejection aside, if the rumors are true about Peavy wanting opt-outs each year AND full option guarantees, given what we have to give up in trade, I am no longer sure I'd want to do this deal. That opt-out is the killer. Without that, I'd still seriously consider it. With it, I think its a no.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) As had been said before, this is how it works for the Sox. Annually they get a budget number from the Board of Directors for the organization. Pretty much Kenny has to stay within that number. Occasionally Kenny will target someone who takes them out of this range, and he will go back to Jerry and ask for a special consideration to chase after this specific player. Much like us, just because they give special allowance for something specific, it doesn't mean they can spend the money on anything. Think of your own budget. You have your own spending limits, but maybe for something very specific you might talk to the wife and get permission to whip out the credit card just this one time. It doesn't mean you have more money, just that you are willing to make a one time exception in this case. Exactly.
  5. So, following on the discussions of the Winston-Salem phallic symbol... Every so often, I go check on Sergio Miranda, my former AAP now in the Brewers organization. He plays for the Brevard County Manatees. If you go to their team page, you get to see what might be the saddest marketing slogan I've ever seen for a sports team: Fear the Sea Cow!
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Kinda like Al Gore? Except Al Gore isn't so overflowing with hate and anger. I do agree though, that they both fall into the category of time-go-get-out-of-the-way.
  7. QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 22, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) There is nobody at Charlotte to get excited about, although I understand wanting to have some hope that somebody can help this floundering team. Face it, we're stuck with what we have. Hopefully the Sox will drastically improve at drafting and developing players. If not, the future is bleak. Bleak? The future for this team looks better right now than it has in a long time. There is a whole lineup of very good looking prospects at AA Birmingham. There are a handful of pitchers at A+. AA and AAA who could be of value as well. Add that to some good young talent already with the club. 2009 is ugly so far, but 2010 and 2011 are looking pretty damn good.
  8. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) Lat pull down behind neck, bad. There is nothing wrong with bringing the bar down to your chest when you bench press, you want a full range of motion. Bouncing it however, is cheating. I've now been told by a doctor, multiple physical therapists and trainers that any press (bench, incline, decline, military) should only be done to the point where your upper arms are level from the shoulder - no lower. Lower increases risk of shoulder injuries dramtically, they say.
  9. QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) I honestly didn't think there was anything as bad as the Da Vinci Code. ...Huh. This connects nicely with the earlier discussion of Crichton. I thought that Dan Brown's books, Da Vinci Code particularly, suffered from much the same lack of character depth that most of Crichton's books do. I could see how some people would find them fun in a mindless kind of way, though I personally didn't like them much.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:40 AM) That's not fantastic, what it does show, however, is that politics is still business as usual. And I don't care which side of the idiot dividing fence a person stands on -- these bills being upwards of 800 pages is downright corrupt. They're 800 pages because 90% of the contents of the bill have almost nothing to do with the title of the bill itself. This is sneaky, common practice in Washington, always has been, and still is. I call the fence dividing the dummy-craps from the republi-cant's the idiot dividing fence because anyone standing on either side of it is just that...an idiot. Until both sides comes to the realization that both parties have their merits AND flaws, we will continue to play this game, and it infuriates me. Them doing stupid juvenile s*** like hiring a speed reader which is meant to be nothing more than a huge LOL to the Republicans shows they think this thing is a f***ing joke. And on the flip side, the Republicans asking them to read this aloud, after the hundreds upon hundreds of similar bills they pushed through without having to read them aloud is equally ignorant. I'm tired of them (both sides) treating the country I live in like a joke for their own personal gain while their sheep followers watch on and take it all in as some form of f***ing entertainment. Good post, sir.
  11. He's not a "soft tosser", he hits 92-93 or so on the FB typically. I'm actually in agreement with you though, I think he deserves some discussion, if someone in the current rotation needs replacing and Jose isn't ready. The only major knock I've read is that he nibbles too much, throws too many pitches. But he has a live arm with a moving fastball, a good slider, and a developing change. His peripherals have all looked good and getting better in the past few seasons, and so have his core results.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) He's probably a gimmick pitcher, like Wasserman, throwing from a weird angle. You can get away with that in the lower levels, but as you rise you get hit more. I have no idea if he is a gimmick pitcher, but, yeah, his numbers are sick. And some gimmick pitchers do tend to have solid ML careers such as Wunsch. Well I'm as big a Wassermann fan has anyone here, but, even Ehren never put up peripherals like what this guy is doing. W-S' closer, Sant Luis, is struggling pretty badly. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved Remenowsky up a level sometime soon to see if he's for real.
  13. Torres with yet another solid outing. With this guy's performance, his numbers throughout his minor league career, his peripherals, and the scouting reports I have seen... someone needs to explain to me why he isn't taken seriously. Levi Maxwell just not having a good year at all, now 0-7.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Yep, I'm actually excited by the effort KW made today. KW deserves huge kudos for the improvements we've made to our farm system. Let's hope he makes some quality veteran for prospects trades in the coming months, as that's been his biggest downfall as a GM. Agreed. He definitely made a serious effort at helping the club here.
  15. QUOTE (tommy @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) ESPNChicago.com: Peavy told reporters he rejects the trade OK, that's a little more solid. That does suck. Peavy appears to have wimped out.
  16. LOL at the conspiracy stuff in here. I mean seriously. People think the Sox and Padres, together, devised a fake trade they knew wouldn't happen in order to make Jerry Reinsdorff look less cheap? Do you guys think about these things before you post them? And even more hilarious is the fact that the Sox went out to try to acquire an expensive but very good pitcher, and are apparently trying to even give him MORE guaranteed money than is in the contract... and somehow that makes the Sox cheap again if it doesn't happen? I know the team looks like crap right now, but seriously, come back down to earth. Also, this deal is no more dead than it was a done deal before. Its waiting, just like before. We're in the same place we were. Striking this last part, with Peavy confirming.
  17. Actually, that is two interesting questions. 1. Who is the Sox' current emergency pitcher from the position players? 2. If you were managing, who of the position players would you pitch?
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Uh oh, maybe we aren't doing so well because I failed to start the thread. Streak in jeopardy. I can fix that... attention please... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! Yeah, I guess I was too late. Sorry, I apparently jinxed the Sox.

  20. QUOTE (qwerty @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Is the chat disabled? Could be, we are working on a new chat tool.
  21. QUOTE (RoyHobbs @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Peavy just needs to man up, show he's a gamer and come to the superior league and stop hiding behind his massive ballpark. Were you aware your avatar image is backwards?
  22. Hudson is no throw-in, I think the pitchers would be more along the lines of Infante, the Carters, Shirek, etc. Maybe a more advanced one that could pitch right now, like a Torres.
  23. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) Escobar, Morel, Gilmore.... I'd be more than OK about Escobar or Gilmore, neither of which I see living up to their hype (with my admitedly limited data to work from).
  24. QUOTE (Sockin @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) ESPN reporting Peavy called Linebrink to ask him what it's like in Chicago, Peavy said he received strong feedback. That's very good news - that he would call at all is a good sign, but Linebrink saying good things also helps. If this is true. Hopefully he gets good reviews from Gooch, Mack and/or others as well.
  25. On the Ozzie thing, I have to say that overall, I think Ozzie treats his pitchers pretty well. Its the position players he is harder on. I was worried when the hired Ozzie about his pitcher handling, but in general, I think he's adjusted to that fairly well (probably with a lot of help from Cooper).
