  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) f*** that!!! If they start serving eckrich (sp?) dogs like at wrigley we are doomed. Hebrew National better be power dialing the White Sox. Vienna Beef should be as well. Vienna is a Chicago business, I'd bet they are on the top of the list.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/2...ked-by-discord/ What idiot reporter asked this question: First, there WERE stills. Second, there WAS a recording, audio, I've heard it. Third, they almost never allow video in the White House.
  3. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Nickleback 3 Doors Down Dane Cook Carrottop Ketchup on hot dogs soggy cereal Carrottop? Really?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) 24 hour news wasn't that bad. It was the invention of the hosted program on those networks that has really killed it. When people like Sean Hannity and Keith Olberman became synonomous with the news, it was over. I agree. It was the shift from news to commentary that has had the biggest negative effect. Its now hard to find, ya know, actual news. Its mostly talking heads talking about the news, and I don't want to see events through their lens. I want to see it for myself. Just give me the facts, please.
  5. Blago gave his first extended interview since the arrest today. Just some real gems here... So Pat Quinn runs the feds, and they are prosecuting so that taxes can be raised? So, no need to apologize for any of the "golden" moments of corruption on those tapes then? He's a hero!!! Ah good, more legal maneuvering.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) They're seriously still talking about that? Or are they talking about other things she wears? They were babbling on about it on CNN yesterday.
  7. Is anyone else irritated with the media coverage of the Obama family's fashion statements? I mean, seriously. If you are a fashion network or gossip channel or something, then I get having a special on Michelle Obama's dresses. But if I go to CNN or a major network or newspaper site, I want the news. And long diatribes and discussions of Michelle's dress does not f***ing qualify as news.
  8. Also, broccolli. And the old 70's/80's TV show, Emergency!
  9. Sleeping outside in a tent, in the woods. Cottage cheese, especially mixed into pasta with some parmesan. Obscure character actors who really have only one character, like Michael Biehn. I liked these widely-panned or box office flop movies: The Last Action Hero, Fallen, Serenity, The Edge
  10. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 04:10 AM) Why do they have to be black? I've seen that exact same joke, except the characters were Italian mobster types.
  11. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) Baggy clothes, especially jeans. Good one. I can't stand seeing guys who's pants are hanging down so that I have to see their boxers. Seriously, you look like a slob, just stop it.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) i agree that he is not a HOF. He did have the one MVP so he gets consideration. Alot of the argurment for him is that he has great HR production for a 2B or was one of the best 2B of his time. The HOF is for the absolute best players, not for the top 10 2B or best 3B. People should not look at his performance compared to other 2B but to the performance of the absolute best players. Performance includes defense as well as offense. Just like with the stats of today, I think there is far too much emphasis on offense and too much comparing by position. The HOF is for the absolute best players not the best of each position. the only question that needs to asked is "is he one of the best PLAYERS of all time not is he one of the best 2B of all time." I will get down from my soapbox now and let the next person take a shot. I think you really have to consider position. Catchers are a prime example - the aspects of the game that make a catcher great are just not the same as for other positions. And those areas that are the same, are at a different balance to each other.
  13. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) It does a decent job of breaking some cliches, but at the same time, gets off on others that aren't much related to what you'd imagine the movie is about. In all, and I don't say this very often about actors, but without DiCaprio's performance, the movie is pretty much unwatchable until it hits the boiling point. Leonardo, in my eyes, might be the only actor in Hollywood right now that can carry a poor movie somewhere. I admit I didn't pay close attention while I was watching it (surfing Reddit and watching a movie don't usually go well) and I'll watch it again... but on first, half-assed viewing, I give it 2/5. The bolded could be a fun thread topic - actors that make you willing to see or even enjoy a movie that might otherwise be garbage. I'll throw one out there who I think can truly carry a bad movie to an acceptable level - Denzel Washington. He's done some pretty mediocre movies (as well as some very good ones), but he somehow makes the mediocre ones enjoyable.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) How about things that you like that maybe other people wouldn't? New thread.
  15. I don't find Angelina Jolie attractive at all. I despise "reality" shows, which aren't anything in the vicinity of "reality" I think the modern horror movie genre is 99% garbage I find these Miller-inspired comic book movies, especially the Rodriguez directed ones like Sin City, to be laughably bad Like SS2K5, I hate fashion trends with a passion. Sense of style doesn't change every 3 months, marketing does. I go classic. I don't like driving anymore. Too stressful and irritating, unless I can get out on a country road. Used to love it. I don't like wine, usually. I don't like coffee. I think the NBA is far and away the biggest joke in professional sports.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) I have nothing against her, but I couldn't think of any reason for her to be a Senator other than her last name. Weird thing, she withdrew for "personal reasons". My guess is she had something to hide, was afraid it would come out.
  17. I think the risk factor of the WBC is way, way overblown. A few innings, that they'd pitch with about the same effort level anyway, will not be a significant added risk of injury. I don't like some aspects of the WBC, but I think its a great overall idea.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) the Obama coverage is getting so bad. I mean the media has been in the tank for the guy the whole time, but it has currently reached joke status. Garrison Keillor is not "the media". He's purely an entertainer, and I don't think anyone sees him as anything but that.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Whats the difference if he funnels federal money to and gives favorable legislation to special intersts that don't direcly work for him? it's still a bribe-return system. A lobbyist for a certain industry doesn't need to work for Obama to get their way; they just need to bring their checkbook. of course this goes for everyone in congress too. i'm not just trying to pick on Obama I guess my belief is that what you are describing will happen, but slightly less, than with others. We'll see though.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Behind the plate, he's an excellent hitter ha.I hope he's right and he can be fringe-avg... I can handle weak D behind the plate as long as he calls a good game. That is a huge key to good catchers - game calling and pitcher handling. Its one of the reasons why I was higher on D Lucy than some others, until he got hurt. Its hugely important, and underappreciated.
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) The truth is this whole rule Obama put in place is smoke and mirrors. He still took a lot of bribe money and will continue to do so. Just because the people he owes aren't directly working for him means nothing, he will still be paying back mucho bribes. sorry to burst anyone’s bubble, but Obama is as sold out to lobbyist and special interest money as most every Washington politician. Disagree, and the rules are definitely meaningful. They are specific, and will keep certain people away. IF THEY ARE FOLLOWED. He didn't follow it here, it appears, so its a bulls*** move.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) 2 years I believe although I have to check. It'd be virtually impossible to be completely free of lobbyists, you'd be disqualifying a lot of people. I know the word "lobbyist" has a stigma but that's kind of the point of democracy. I did a little research. Looks like he has been lobbying as recently as June, and possibly up to the current. So, yeah, this pick is apparently in violation. Stupid move.
  23. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) Funny how nobody is mentioning Obama breaking one of his executive orders less than 24 hrs after signing it. William J. Lynn, former LOBBYIST for raytheon, as Deputy Secretary of Defense. CHANGE IS WONDERFUL, ISN"T IT... Did he break the rule? How long ago was he a lobbyist? The rules he set had time limits.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) We'll see if they even last long enough to make the 3rd generation "cheap" car. They have been hit pretty hard by the recession from what I've read. All of them will be. But since Tesla is further along the manufacturing curve, their light at the end of the tunnel is closer. And I have a feeling that all these sorts of companies will get some help from the government, in the form of targeted tax breaks to them and to buyers, etc. But some will fail anyway. Also, this is why Tesla was smarter, starting with the pricier models first. That market is less effected by a bad economy than the more price-sensitive buyers.
