QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) This is the reasoning that everyone uses at first... Just don't make it a habit... Maybe if we backload ALL of our contracts, they'll never catch up with us?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Presumably, Beckham went in the Upton deal. I know, and it made me sad Honestly, I don't know that I like Upton + Lilly more than Beckham + Pierre that much. Not enough to give up other pieces like Viciedo or Floyd, anyway.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) How about: Justin Upton Ramirez Dunn Konerko Quentin Rios Pierzynski Morel Lillibridge That lineup is like a BLT without the Bacon

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
ScottyDo replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Quentin for Michael Taylor and Brad Kilby? I still think the best route is to use *Jackson to target a CF/RF. And then use Quentin to target a young (#4-5) SP. *were not re-signing him while his agent is still Scott Boras. Hey, we signed Andruw Jones! Maybe everything's different now -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Besides the fact that D.Lee is one whole year older, everything else is in his favor. He's got a higher career ops, much better defender, better athlete and will make much less money on this upcoming contract and once again, this is a real easy decision imo. The fact that Derrek had a bad first half of last season while battling some injuries doesn't change that fact. Yah he's got everything except age and recent performance. Somehow, with a 35 year old, I value injury and recent performance a little more than career OPS which includes seasons 5 years removed from now.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) I read that article, tried my best to make some sense of it, and then resigned myself to the fact that i'm best at just watching Sox games while gurgling a beer on my couch and yelling "cmon more home runs grarghhgh" lmao great post!

Maybe I'm behind the 8-ball here. What exactly is Silver Chalice? No Wikipedia entry.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) OTOH...the Padres could actually be believed to be in a stronger position than they were last year...because they actually competed last year, and they've also moved Peavy's contract and cut back their other commitments around him. They could have just run with him this year and probably gotten this good of an offer at the AS break. Instead, they made the move now, which is confusing. Well, they didn't want to accidentally contend...duh! Success on the field is such terrible risk to take. Sorry, I'll find a new track eventually. That whole concept just pisses me off, though.
-
QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) By then, the Padres could be in contention, and it would be more difficult to trade their top star. Wow, what a ridiculously backwards way of looking at things. If that's truly how the Padres feel, they are a stupid, stupid team. "Well, we'd better trade this guy before we accidentally contend for the division or something..."

Question about Joe Borchard's 504 ft HR
ScottyDo replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Ok, so Adam Dunn made a joke about hitting the Miller Lite sign in RF. It made me wonder how far that sign actually is. Considering Joe Borchard's HR was measured at 504, and it was hit in that direction, I figured the sign would be about 540 feet or so. So I hopped on to Google Earth and used their measuring tool. I have found it very accurate, and measured it to the OF walls to check for accuracy, and it was correct. Well, Google Earth has the sign at about 475 feet. Was Borchard's HR measured as if it hit on level ground? Like, did they take the height into effect and then give him an extra 50 feet or so based on the ball trajectory? I'm just a little confused because Adam Dunn hit a 479 foot HR last year, and in US Cellular, that would hit the Miller Lite sign, and be over the fandeck in CF, and would probably hit the front of the fundamentals deck. Dunn's 479 foot HR - http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12052009 I measured it on Google Earth at 450ish. Wow, that was about the most perfect HR sound I've ever heard. It almost sounds canned. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:24 AM) The Rockies non-tendered Delcarmen with the intent on bringing him back on a new deal. Would be a nice addiction though.

The way I see it, we got AJ for the price of Teahen. I think we all know who means more for the team. Hurray for no arbitration! Paulie, por favor?

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays
ScottyDo replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Yea. The fact that Cowley buried it in his Dunn article and noone else is reporting it makes me wary. I have no problem with him signing elsewhere though. The Score's reporting it, but it's probably just derived from Cowley's article. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) Carlos Pena would be more hated than Mark Kotsay around here. I hate him already. His game isn't far off from Andruw's, except he's not any good in the field or anything.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) Edit: NVM Its back

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays
ScottyDo replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Damn. Oh well, I don't think it'll be a huge loss (could be wrong). Offensively, he was nothing to write home about last year. I'd feel a hell of a lot better with him than Flowers, though. But if it's between AJ and Paulie for whatever reason, I'm going Paulie all day. -
I think Paulie is the definitive answer here. While they're both gambles to a certain extent, Lee did NOT have a good year last year. Paulie's important to the fan base and (probably) the structure of the clubhouse. He's much more of a known quantity. Paulie, for my money.

I'm sorry, Oney, I'M the jerk.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) all speculation on my part nothing is concrete - Oney Guillen Kid is something, first says 'Sox signed' then says speculation. LOL. lmao what an idiot...
-
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) I kinda doubt Oney knows anything since the fallout with the FO last spring, unless Ozzie opened his mouth to him. If Ozzie told him anything, it might really piss off Kenny to the point of him going to JR and asking to fire Ozzie.(not that that would be a bad thing) I mean if the ink is dry on the contract, it might not make him TOO mad, but if things are still in the works he needs to keep his flapping mouth shut for once.
-
I call BS on this deal already being done. Shut it, Oney.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) In retrospect, they did the Sox a favor. His defense is slipping and his offense, while good, isn't worth what he paycheck would have been. For sure. Still made me mad, though
-
lets just keep the Angels out of these dealings....the Torii Hunter-stealing jerks...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) (Probably because other teams would want Buehrle). I guess..............considering all of the above factors, though, plus Buehrle's NTC and what he means to the fanbase, I just don't see how he's any more tradable than Jackson.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Follow up column to Morosi's tweet: Not that I'm advocating it, but how is EJax not more tradable than Buehrle? Younger, better, cheaper, same number of years. Still would free up a fair amount of payroll.
