QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 04:02 AM) Look, saving 2 games in one day is a big deal. AT BOSTON. If few people want to give him credit and nobody else, fine. The bullpen has been a mess. Putz and Thornton and Sergio all have blown games and sucked. Bobby was OUTSTANDING TODAY. So just take it for granted. Go ahead. Don't matter to me. Yeah, it's a routine everyday thing to get two saves in one day in Boston and in the second game get four outs. I don't know why it bothers me so. Hell, Bobby gets his 7 f***ing million dollars. He doesn't need my support. He gets to laugh all the way to the bank every time he gets a paycheck. Fans may hate his goatee and his excess 30 pounds. He gets the last laugh to the tune of 7 million dolares. I'm certainly not remotely high on Bobby Jenks right now, but you're right that 2 1/3 innings with 2 saves in close games IN Fenway in one day is noteworthy. Now, do I think this means Jenks has figured it out? Not by a long shot. But it's fairly remarkable. It'd be like if Quentin went 6 for 10 with 2 bombs yesterday; we'd probably say something, even if we didn't infer a trend in it.

QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) :sweep: Ova! Now let's sweep the series for real tomorrow. When's the last time we swept Boston in Boston? I can't recall that happening in at least 5 years. October, 2005. At least, some of it was in Boston. ...but I don't know what the real answer is.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) looks like we face Liriano, Duensing and Pavano week after next. Not sure how the sox rotation will shake out with the DH tomorrow, but if it stays on track, we'll counter with Floyd, Buehrle and Edwin. Yum.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) I think the game either starts early enough to avoid it, or I guess there's always the possibility of it not being on television.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) With the FOX contract, why is it that Boston is allowed to schedule an early Saturday game but the Royals couldn't do it? Isn't the 1st game of the DH within FOX's exclusive broadcasting window? Yah, I'd like to know the answer to that, too. Doesn't make any sense to me.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) I guess Omar is guilty then since he said we needed help. I actually appreciate his honesty. I agree. Getting the smokescreen is annoying, but PR-wise, there's really no other move.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) Wasn't it 2006 when Paulie, Thome and Dye were to have stated we didn't need another bat and Kenny made no major improvements to the offense? I would bet that was more due to Kenny not wanting to make a move, independent of anything PK, JD or Thome may have said. Of course, he'd link the two publicly, given the opportunity, just to ease the pressure, but I highly doubt he gives a crap what the players think of themselves. Of course the players are going to have pride in the people they've played alongside all season, but KW's job is to look at the big picture, and I've never seen any evidence that he's bad at that.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Thank goodness Kenny finally didn't listen to the likes of Paulie and others who always say the current roster is good enough. And I guarantee you the team will look better than usual against the Twins when we face them. That stuff's all Vote of Confidence fluff you want to hear out of a leader; I guarantee (as much as one can guarantee stuff like that) that KW's decision making operates above fluff comments and there was never any danger of the two intermingling.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) Something kind of funny..... I post on another site and I mentioned my top 3 MVP candidates... I said Hamilton, Cano, and Konerko, with Hamilton winning easily. And about 2-3 Blue Jays fans jumped all over me saying Konerko is barely a top 10, and Bautista should be considered in the top 3. Then I mentioned how the Sox actually have a shot at the playoffs, and the Blue Jays are buried in the standings and for the past half a page it's been "Yeah, I wish we played in the s***ty ALC" and "The Sox would be a .500 team in the East" and all this s*** that does not even matter to my original point. LOL. It's been a headache. I guess it's true that no one outside of Sox fans recognize Konerko as an elite player this year. Top 10? That's so bizarre. You don't even have to go very deep in the statistics to discover that Konerko is EASILY top-5, probably top-3. In fact, all you have to do is go to mlb.com and check the tabs in the League Leaders box right on the homepage. Go through the tabs for AL and he's on everything except BA. Poor Toronto fans. Maybe they're having trouble converting RBI's into metric.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 01:03 AM) Hahahaha I did the exact same thing in my class. LOL me too. We should probably pay attention in class one of these days...

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) Awesome, Twins lose, and they use up 3 of their starters in this game. Tigers could have easily swept, but at least we got a game closer. 3.5 :bringit It's amazing how much better 3.5 looks than 4.5 to me
-
Woohoo! What an infuriating game from our perspective...could easily have been a Tigers sweep if they didn't choke, choke, choke. God, they sound like us vs. the Twins. Well, at least they took one and screwed up the Twins rotation, just as ours will be screwed up by rain. EDIT: Infuriating SERIES from our perspective, not game.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 07:39 AM) On SportsCenter last night, they actually said Paulie should be considered for the AL MVP because of clutch homeruns like yesterday's. you'd have to be crazy not to at least CONSIDER a guy in the top 5 of all relevent offensive statistics. i thought that was a foregone conclusion. although, you're right, extracting that from sportscenter's collective lips is impressive

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) I don't see how Danks can go from Lester/Sabathia to netting us something so insignificant... Or how Buehrle being traded is going to get us anything back in return but a team possibly willing to take on his salary commitment and maybe a fringe prospect of the Felix Diaz/Jon Adkins/Nick Masset/Sean Tracey variety. I dunno, the Dodgers paid more for half a season of Lilly. -
QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 02:24 AM) File this in the "why does this not surprise me" file. ESPN - past midnight - John Kruk says Manny would have been better as a relief pitcher which is what the Sox really needs. Bobby V called it "a desperation act" and "it won't help much." Just sayin'. Chumps. that's really stupid, considering this has been a month in the works
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) Manny is money when he's going for the money but can his body still do it ? We really need a Minny mini-slump to get within 2 games fairly soon. Can't hover around 4 or more back for too much longer. It's a tough row to hoe right now with the pen in shambles. You should be a poet, sir!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) So let me get this straight, a guy his current HOF manager says is not ready to hit good pitching so he sits down is precisely the man that will lead the White Sox to the promised land? Personally I think Joe and the Dodgers probably think Manny will blow a calf or something if he plays the field right now. Its a real tricky situation for the Sox. They may get Manny, but it may not be for very long. Didn't he just hit a couple of doubles his last night playing? Sounds like a smokescreen to me.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) vs. CC Sabathia: Beckham 4-8, 2 2B Castro 0-6 Jones 1-4 Konerko 15-69, 4 2B, 2 HR Kotsay 4-14, 1 2B Pierre 1-6 AJP 4-24, 1 2B, 1 HR CQ 2-12, 1 HR Ramirez 4-11 Rios 8-26, 3 2B, 3 HR Teahen 10-35, 2 2B, 1 3B Vizquel 0-7 Dat be some ugliness, largely. Luckily, there are quite a few small sample sizes in there

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Isn't the big question here whether or not he will demand an extension if he was to waive his NTC? There is no way I see the Sox resigning him next year, I am sure if they were planning on spending that kind of money on a FA they would just re up PK. No way does this deal get done if he wants another year I've never heard any whispers that that's the case. I think he knows that nobody is going to sign him to an extension right now, and just wants out of LA (and into Chicago).

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) 2 business days, but Saturday and Sunday don't count hence deadline is Tuesday at 12:30PM. LMAO business days? What is that nonsense? How are Saturday and Sunday not "business days" in baseball? Silly. See, I thought the whole Tuesday thing was out the window because he didn't clear waivers. Pshh.
-
I think I read somewhere that the Dodgers were planning on waiting until Tuesday to make a deal just in case their wildcard fortunes changed between now and then. Don't they have a limited time to make a trade happen, though, since he was claimed and didn't pass through waivers? What is that time period, if it exists? Sorry, I'm at work avoiding the boss's eye, no time to read through everything.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) Oh man, you two really need a sense of humor.... Well, I mean, it's funny. If it was happening in Always Sunny or something, I'd laugh, but I'm just not into embarrassing real people who are doing their best and failing.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) yeah it's always good to embarrass a guy wearing the White Sox jersey. Really productive in mocking our own team while trying to beat the Yankees. Very smart. Oh, so funny as well. Totally agree. The man losing his job should be punishment enough for his performance, especially considering he's been put in the position to be ridiculed. If he'd been playing his proper role, I doubt anybody would have cared. It IS very classless to rub this guy's nose in it when it's only partially his fault. I'd be pretty disgusted if our fan base pulled something like that.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) I still feel like the team will get a boost if at 12:30 we hear we are in position to be awarded the claim, they'll be playing with renewed energy knowing that Manny might/will makes the future brighter. No, they will all be in shambles because Kotsay, King of the Klubhouse, will be in danger! Must defend the queen bee! /green
