  1. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Are they having a classic double header because it's supposed to be hot in KC today? Because otherwise it makes no sense to me It's cuz of Fox's Saturday monopoly. MLB has the silliest broadcasting rights situation.
  2. stupid DH's...i felt good about a sweep before the rainout happened. still, there's always the chance! SOX FTW!
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) Ozzie is losing a lot more games for this team then a manager ever should. A manager's job is to put his team in the best position to ball games, Ozzie isn't doing that. Instead, he's handicapping this team by being stubborn and shortsighted. Are you sure? Because I thought the consensus around here was that the Sox were playing over their heads, talent-wise, over the last few months, which would be a CREDIT to Ozzie. If not, you're saying any other manager would have us playing better than .700 baseball? I find that hard to believe, and I kind of doubt he's losing us very many games. Results aren't 100% of the equation, but they're 90% in my book.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 04:08 AM) 4 games back of the wild card leader, Tampa I would be amazed (delightfully) if the wild card came out of the central! Screw the AL East! Seems like a distinct possibility, too, with how hot both our division leaders have been.
  5. I've been saying it for months now: closer by committee will ROCK with our bullpen! I just hope they actually do it instead of declaring Putz the closer.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:15 AM) Superman doesn't have a hangnail, it's more like a dingleberry. Thats cuz they haven't invented toilet paper strong enough for the task at hand. ...wait, are we still doing a metaphor?
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) Ozzie did screw up the 1-5 slots at one point in time this year, just see how many times Kotsay's hit 5th. Plus, Kotsay batting 6th is still a bad idea. And the thing with talent - I think this goes back to Ozzie's reluctance to have a real DH who can hit instead of Mark Kotsay. While I agree that Kotsay should never hit 5th, it was happening at a time when Quentin was playing just as terribly as Kotsay and, frankly, nobody deserved to play in the 5-hole. What does it matter which worthless player is batting 5th if they're all putting up about .205/.290/.370? Might as well put in the lefty. I'm not denying that Ozzie has a silly infatuation with Kotsay, or that he's leaving a little juice in the orange by arranging the lineup the way he does, but I also don't think it's been a disaster, nor particularly detrimental to the team. Sure, I get the idea that problems are problems and there's no point leaving them when options are available, but I'm also not worried about Superman if he's got a hangnail; he might as well clip that sucker off, but if he doesn't and still saves the world.......meh.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) Let's just put it this way: we're winning despite his lineups... I guess my point is this: talent trumps all, and pitching wins games. Batting order is somewhat low on my list of priorities, though I do recognize that it's one of the few skills asked of a manager. Also, I don't really hear much complaining about 1-5 in our batting order, really it's just a guy or two hitting 6-9, and even they have done a fair job of scoring runs since beckham and alexei decided to get their heads out of their butts. It sure is easy to make the back of a lineup look "good" like schowalter's when you've got a pile of indistinguishably crappy players to heap back there.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:15 AM) While we're on the topic of Ozzie...I honestly wish Ozzie knew how to make a lineup like Buck Showalter. That lineup he made today was pretty damn good. Outside of a couple of iffy things (like hitting Wigginton 3rd instead of 5th), that is how a lineup should be made to maximize run production. FWIW, Ozzie's bad lineups have won us a lot of games and Schowalter's good lineup scored 2 runs.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) sounds like Manny is just trying to force the Dodgers hand as soon as possible That's how it's sounding to me. If they take him off the DL and waive him even if he's "not" feeling better, they'll pretty much HAVE to trade him.
  11. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) David Kaplan tweets that the Dodgers got the waiver claim on Dunn. Block on the Giants? They don't really have the space for him, do they?
  12. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) I'm guessing KW will aqcuire someone around Aug. 29th. Because the rosters expand on September 1st. The organization wouldn't have to worry about sending a man down. At that time the Dodgers will likely be more than out of the race meaning they will likely deal Manny to a contending team. The timing of a deal would be entirely dependent on when the team puts the player on waivers, would it not? If the Dodgers decided to take Manny off the DL and waive him tomorrow, KW would have no choice but to make the trade in the next couple of days. He really has little to no control over the timeline, unless he just didn't put in a claim on anybody until that date.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Really? You blame Ramon Castro for Jenks sucking? Well, everyone was just complaining about bobby not throwing enough fastballs, and castro puts down the fingers...
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) How could Bobby honestly believe that his goatee looks cool? It doesn't need to look cool, it's the source of his powers.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) Damnit, why did it have to be Kotsay? He will be hitting 3rd in the playoffs now
  16. Let's score 9 here so we can see Sale! EDIT: Also, so we can win the game I guess.
  17. I think he deserves some credit for the change in approach we've seen from the team is a hole. Anyone who still says Walk is a "lift and pull" coach hasn't watched this season at all. That said, he probably didn't have much to do with our struggles or are successes, which is why I was never on the Fire Walk bandwagon. At the very least, good for him for getting the fans off his back.
  18. Hahah sorry everybody. My point was not to get into a stats debate, my point was to indicate that we our non-sweep of the double-header wasn't all that unusual, no matter HOW much better we are than the Tigers. No reason to doubt what we've got just because we fall in line with 75% of everybody ever.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) I'm betting Southpaw can ground out to 2nd pretty well. Yeah, but does he have warning track power?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Oh s***. Sutcliffe is extolling the virtues of Mark Kotsay's clubhouse presence now... If he's gonna be the team mascot and contribute nothing to the games, why not just put Southpaw in the dugout during the game? I'm sure he can pump the team up/keep it loose.
  21. My Tigers friend called him Sir Edwin. Not flashy, but I guess there's a bunch of people who called him that? Then again, just like they hated "O-E-O Magglio" in DET, we should probably reject Sir Edwin because it's another team's "thing".
  22. The bullpen thing makes the most sense to me, thinking about it.
