  1. Seems like many of Ozzie's managerial decisions have run in parallel with this board's ideas of late, maybe the pressure will ease up. or maybe it's all coincidence
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) He better start. I'll be pissed if we see the 5th grader starting at 3B with the guy who forgot how to hit at 2B. Give Beckham another day off, lets see what Lillibridge can do today. We gotta ride his hot streak, and he is seeing the ball well (even though he is still an idiot swinging for the fences). Got your wish on both counts, according to 670
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) TMK! BTW, that ball Vlad hit that Rios almost got to really shows just how much range Alex has. There's only a couple of CFers that can get remotely close to a ball like that. And Hamilton's play in the 9th...that wasn't the best read and he should have trapped the ball instead of trying to deflect it to Borbon. I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked like the ball deflected off his face to Borbon so unless he plays soccer in his spare time, I doubt he was trying to do much of anything. Or maybe I just need to watch the replay again
  4. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Most players with this skill set play CF. Ichiro is the obvious exception. I'd take Ichiro! please????
  5. veeeeery nice! didn't think they'd get this one. Sweaty Freddy, you make me so nervous, yet you can't stop succeeding for us. I wish to continue being wrong about you. Think Andrus gets plunked tomorrow, or did his struggles exempt him?
  6. Sweeeeet. This was the game I had pegged as the LEAST winnable so in my proud tradition of being wrong, they'll proceed to lose the next two. Sorry, guys.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 01:20 AM) Why are the Sox wearing these hats? And no Cali, this isn't a negative comment 4th of July I'm guessing. I hate 'em.
  8. my girlfriend's asleep so my TV is (blessedly) on mute. Did Hawk just say "GAS!"?
  9. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 01:08 AM) explain let's just say i feel like we're more likely to need paulie in extras than lilli now
  10. lilli pinch running for PK? i dunno about this...
  11. also, maybe he's greg walker (who should also be nominated for soxtalk whipping boy)
  12. I have to say that I think the criticism heaped on Greg does qualify him as the Soxtalk Whipping Boy, and just like the criticism heaped on Jizzcan, it's not really deserved. Greg's opinions may be a little rosy as compared to the timbre of soxtalk as a whole, but I actually value that perspective. It keeps Soxtalk from getting too groupthink-y, which has the occasional tendency to happen. Bring 'im on! Greg! Woot!
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) For those who don't read the FutureSox board, first round pick Chris Sale made his debut tonight. He pitched the 8th out of the Dash bullpen. Got a pop out, ground out, walk (after being ahead 1-2) and a ground out. Fastball sat 93-94. Encouraging! His BB/K ratio sucks though. Trade him.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) I'm just hoping the M's think they can replicate our recent success and hold off on trading Lee to the Twins... If it's Lee to the Twins vs. Lee to the field, I take the field. I think the Mets want him pretty bad.
  15. Anybody know what's up with the 670 internet stream lately?
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) The thing about Matt is he is such a smooth 96-97. So effortless. It bothers me if he appeared to be actually trying to throw hard or throw harder. I hope the elbow isn't causing him to try and overcompensate. My guess would be he's putting a little extra behind it because of the whole closer cliche. People equate velocity with ability to close. Even the most educated baseball circles (i.e. Soxtalk) are guilty of that on occasion -- see: The 4th Annual April Jenks Panic. I'd be surprised if a little bit of that mentality didn't rub off on a reliever like Thornton. Hopefully he settles down because 96-97 + pinpoint accuracy >>>>>>> 98-99 + diminished control. I think we all know that.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) don't stop should we get it instead?
  18. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) why go for morneau when you can go for pujols? he's not left-handed
  19. personally, i think we should trade for justin morneau
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) In all fairness, he did face 3 pretty good righthander power hitters, which is a little bit out of the norm for him. But right now, I want Putz as the closer. He is throwing some serious heat(last night staying at 97-98 with his FB) and his splitter is just diving. If it were up to me, Santos and Thornton would get the 8th, Pena the 7th, and let Putz close. Hopefully Williams and Linebrink are not necessary Bereavement leave is normally when a family member passes away, isnt it? Personally -- and I could be totally wrong on this, but I have a feeling -- I think the reason Jenks has been our closer for the last year or so is because Ozzie has caught on to something that most people outside baseball's inner circle have been thinking for a while now: limiting your best relief pitcher to one particular inning (that may not be the most important) isn't a very good idea. I think it's pretty objectively clear that Thornton has been better than Jenks for years now, and I think Ozzie knows that, but he hasn't made the change. Same thing with Putz this year. There are a lot of factors that go into deciding who the closer is (e.g. if he put Thornton in that role he'd have only one lefty in normal situations...which actually ties into what I'm saying, but isn't the same thing), but I think most importantly, Ozzie's gotten attached to the idea of having a roving killer like Thornton/Putz who can quell any hitter at any time instead of having his best pitcher in the strictly regimented role of closer. Again, I could be totally wrong, but if I was managing, I'd say screw closers entirely because I want my best relief pitcher available in the 7th if that's what it comes to. So I hope while Bobby's gone, we don't make anyone the "closer". See how that works out. I actually do like Bobby a lot and have not been as hard on him as others the past season or so, but I wouldn't make the argument that he's our best or most valuable reliever. Also, I hope his family's okay.
  21. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) He took some BP with TCQ and TCQ showed him how to do it. lol my, how things have changed...
  22. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) good news for all you Randy Williams haters, which is probably everyone on here... Threets will be up within a week source, please!
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 02:11 AM) F**********ck. He does really well vs. us. you can't say that on television!
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) To argue that you don't make any changes because they're winning is not very convincing. Pierre is not the reason that they're winning. The main reason that the Sox have suddenly turned it around is because the pitching is finally living up to its expectations. Pierre hasn't had an extra base hit in a month. He doesn't get on base nearly enough for a lead off hitter. You do all realize that his OBP is still only .315!!! They aren't winning because of him, they're winning in spite of him. The Sox have to get better at lead off if they're going to keep winning. After all, they won't be facing the weakest N.L. teams the rest of the way. I guarantee you that K.W. isn't thinking he doesn't need to tinker with this team just because it finally put together a decent run. That's not true, he hit a triple a little over a week ago. I agree with your point in principle, except that Rios can't be anywhere but the 3-hole right now. If you wanna bat Vizquel there for a few days cuz he's (relatively) hot, then sure, but let's not forget that 3 weeks ago we were mocking Omar Vizquel's very existence so I don't see how we can view him as dependable. Pierre is our only option there right now, as much as it pains us to say it.
