  1. If we could get him to swear off his opt out, I might be willing to listen to a blockbuster type of deal, but the deal as is... awful. If he is good he is gone, if he isn't his deal could well kill our rebuild almost single handedly.
  2. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Maitan is the biggest name, but they also signed a catcher, Abraham Gutierrez, for ~$3.5 million. Is he someone who, if released, would be worth bringing in? The Braves have something like half a dozen guys out of that class who have made it to the US. There is a ton of talent to poach there. Hopefully Paddy has some good feelers out.
  3. Jon Morosi‏Verified account @jonmorosi 28m28 minutes ago Sources: Key NPB officials are working through the night in Japan -- as in, now -- in an effort to reach new posting agreement, or at least convince MLBPA to extend 8 p.m. ET deadline. Unclear if there has been sufficient progress to do so. @MLBNetwork @MLB
  4. Mark Bowman‏Verified account @mlbbowman 6m6 minutes ago MLB will likely announce the findings of its Braves investigation within the next two days. Penalties could include fines, international market restrictions and the loss of international prospects (Maitan remains a strong possibility).
  5. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) If his deal is the same as the Red Sox prospects, every team will be allowed to offer him their entire pool. With the Red Sox guys, the first $300K (the amount of their original reported bonus) didn't count toward the new team's bonus pool. In Maitan's case, that would be the first $4.25 million, so Texas, for example, could offer him almost $8 million if he's granted the same status as the Red Sox prospects. This is really going to be interesting with teams looking to push their pool money to Otani. I wonder who and what amounts are out there for Matain? Most teams have already spent most of their money, either that or they are looking towards the Japanese and even Cuban phenoms that are showing up.

  7. I remember the difference that he made with Alexei. If he can have the same sort of impact with some of the young kids coming up, excellent.
  8. Jon MorosiVerified account @jonmorosi Shohei Ohtani’s move to @MLB in 2018 is not certain to happen. Source says there was no progress last night (Eastern time) in posting system negotiations, regarding MLBPA’s concerns. It’s now after midnight in Tokyo, less than 10 hours to deadline. @MLBNetwork
  9. Jon Morosi‏Verified account @jonmorosi 23m23 minutes ago Source: #BlueJays have yet to make formal multiyear extension proposal this offseason to Josh Donaldson, who will become a free agent after 2018. In fairness, there is no urgency to do so right now; most logical window is during arbitration talks after New Year. @MLB @MLBNetwork 10 replies 42 retweets 73 likes

  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) Need to see another most/full season of Avi before I start wanting to extend him. It all depends on his price tag to be honest. If he wants to get paid based on last season, no way. If he is willing to give the Sox a break based on the first four years, I think about it.
  12. Gosh I have seen the F word a lot in this thread.
  13. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Nov 18, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) You can't trade Avi unless you are getting a s***load of a haul. It's tough to get future HOFers and you don't give them away. Be smart Rick. He's an integral part of our 2019 World Series championship team. I will have two of whatever this guy is having.
  14. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) Abreu I think they keep, Avi I think is sold high If one goes, there is no reason to keep the other... unless you get a really nice extension.
  15. Eh, the Bears aren't making the playoffs this year so let them keep losing. Better draft position.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) So if they lose him, he reverts to International free agent rules? Yes.
  17. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) Eh, he's got $300k. I mean full court sales pitch Do they? I know they can sign him for that, but how much do they have left after trading away slot money three different signings and at least two signings of their own?
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 08:49 PM) Hahn needs to full court press for Maitan. We have no money.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) And the insult was that Oh, I'm sorry I misunderstood. You don't know everyone in Hollywood, its Broadway. Sorry a degree or two of separation is not knowing everybody. I am one degree from knowing just about everyone on the PGA tour. I know one guy. You know Dan Hayes. You are one or two degrees away from knowing a ton of athletes and entertainers. Blow it out of proportion. That's what Fox News Groupthink teaches. Speaking of personal attacks.
