  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) Well surely the issues don't happen over night. This whole process had led to the incredible amount of single parent households and the public policy has left the deep south of the city in shambles as far as the gangs and their respective positioning. If the issue was moving people around, and being displaced, I would think that would happen right away.
  2. Isn't he the one that hit our scoreboard on opening day?
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) This isn't necessarily directed at you but I think it's impossible to have this conversation without distinguishing between legal and illegal guns. The vast majority of the Chicago's gun violence comes from illegal guns. No laws are going to stop that. Criminials are going to be criminals. Yup. Daley systematically built all the highways to trap blacks in certain areas. That was a s*** show so they built a bunch of project high rises in response. That was a s*** show so they got rid of most of the projects and now all the rival gangbangers are living amongst each other. You have GDs everywhere and then black disciples, P stones and Latin Kings mixed in and around them. Most cities have neighborhoods like - "This is a crip neighborhood, don't go there unless you wear blue." In Chicago it's just a free for all and these gangbangers can't even put their guard down unless they're in a big gang in their most populated area. But even that would be a pretty delayed effect. I mean most of that work was done a decade to two decades ago. The kids killing each other now weren't even alive then.
  4. We all know the Dem Thread is rigged by Hillbots.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) When/how was Colton Turner added to the roster? Jays trade for Navarro. Or are you referring to AFL roster? If that is the case, no idea.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) But while those packages may beat the Red Sox offer, they likely won't rise to the level required for us to make the deal. I think the Yankees and Dodgers could depending on how creative they want to get.
  7. In other words, he hasn't figured out how to hack into other teams tablets... Eric Fisher ‏@EricFisherSBJ 1h1 hour ago Bill Belichick on Surface tablets used on sidelines re big NFL deal w Microsoft: "I'm done with the tablets. They're just too undependable."
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) But really, are there? As much as we think we are holding the Red Sox over a barrel, I suspect they will have significant leverage as well. We may be able to drum up interest from others, but in reality, Boston is really the one team that holds the pieces that we might demand. Otherwise, it once again becomes an issue of prospect liquidity with other organizations. Sure, the Dodgers might have the pieces. Perhaps Texas and NY could put something together. The Cubs have the pieces but we aren't going to move Sale to the Northside absent some premium. Boston is really the team that has the pieces to make this happen and still not bankrupt their system. If Boston isn't willing to move their top guys, then yes, the other teams could be able to put packages together that beat the Red Sox offer.

  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) I think the fact that white sox fans in this thread are so obssessed with the red sox prospects over others is a sign that we will get less of them than we think. Like I said before, I think the Yankees are the team that will make the biggest push.
  11. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) But I think that's the whole problem. It sounds like the White Sox requested JBJ, Moncada/Ben, plus some and the Red Sox are saying it's only one of those three plus some. Then the Sox walk away from the deal. If they aren't willing to pay up, there are better deals out there to be had.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Yeah, I agree it is an improvement, but that isn't the question necessarily. The question is, do we believe JBJ is worth what Boston will think he's worth? The answer to that question will undoubtedly be "no," but really it will come down to how close are we in terms of those assessments. At the end of the day, the centerpiece in a Sale trade needs to be someone we are rock-solid confident in. For whatever reasons, perhaps irrational as they may be, I just don't have that sense of JBJ as the centerpiece. Maybe it's more that I would prefer to diversify the return amongst more prospects...which again, may be slightly irrational. I don't think JBJ would be the centerpiece. I think he is a piece. You have to get a guy like Moncada and a lot of others to make this work.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) I think draft and follow should be allowed to draft and follow for international draft. Since they may be getting paid from a professional league, allows both sides to make decisions. I'd be OK with that. The NHL does it well here.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) Especailly when you live in a building where the AC/Heat come from the same place, and once your building flips the switch, the air switches to heat..... Yeah, i think I have been back and forth two or three times already.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate...-run-for-senate Curt Schilling running against Warren. He has zero chance in that state.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) That account and Frank are clearly having fun with this, I don't see why anyone would ever have a problem with this. If it wasn't the Cubs, you wouldn't care if we're being honest. It has the same tone as their fans do, which is probably why it annoys so much.
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Are they being douchebags? Do you have to ask that?
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Yeah, for sure...but he had a REALLY abnormal streak for about 30 games where he was just unconsious...I suspect that type of run might be an outlier even amongst typical hot streaks. For me, I would prefer more consistency. Edit: His Post-All-Star splits were .233/.315/.412/.728 The sad thing is that off of the top of my head, that is a probably a pretty nice improvement over what we put out there in CF all last year. And that is without factoring in anything on the defensive side of things. Even if he hits at his worst, JBJ would provide the Sox with a ton of improvement in CF. We are talking wins worth of improvement. If he hits even normal or better than normal? 5 wins? 6 wins?
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Why the spike in only a handful of cities, though? Iirc it's really just been Chicago, Baltimore and Houston that have seen shootings go up the last year or two. That is the million dollar question. Take the contrast of Indianapolis and Chicago. Indy has about a million people to Chicago's 3 million. Population isn't the driving factor, as Indy is way bigger than Baltimore, but trails both Houston and Chicago. The poverty rate in Indy is 14.2%. Chicago is at 13.3% according to last available data. Gun laws? Uh, no. Remember Chicago blamed Indiana for the availability of guns due to lax laws. Indy exits right in the middle of that. So does Houston. Maryland exists on the Chicago end of gun laws. The have no concealed carry, and they have higher hoops to jump through even for a hand gun. What is the difference? I have no idea. So what is the cause that exists in Chicago, versus not in Indianapolis?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) He went on a monster run at the beginning of the summer for about a month and then was pretty pedestrian from there on out. I'm not saying that shouldn't count, but the way his numbers fell out this season are not necessarily indicative of a guy that was steadily on base and knocking in runs all season long the way you might think. Realistically, no player is going to be perfectly consistent. There will be streaks and slumps that arrive at the season end numbers.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Judging from the morale of some of the Chicago cops I know, I would think less policing might have helped the spike in violence as well. With all the recent high-profile police shootings, I wonder if cops are less likely to get involved where they may have in the past. I have no doubt of this.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) If guns were more readily available in Chicago, would we see a drop in violence or would it explode? I tend to think the latter, but I'm liberal when it comes to gun control. Thoughts? If it were really a case of availability, Chicago wouldn't be such an isolated case in its spike in violence.
  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I am very opposed to the idea of an international draft, I think the current system they have now is good but it needs to be regulated better. I am opposed to an international draft, but I am more opposed to the system we have now. I want to see these kids not get a special status simply because they aren't American. Submit everyone to a world wide draft. It is the absolute most fair thing to do. The NBA can do it, as can the NHL. There is no reason MLB can't handle this.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) I never said now it can't be talked about. Show me one post where I wrote that. I just said it was funny Getz is discussed more before he even started and anyone knows what he's about than Capra got in 5 years, when there was plenty of complaining that could have been directed his way. Even in the new coaches thread, not a peep about Capra's job performance. Quit making things up. Awesome. Then quit trolling people for doing so. Thanks!
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I believe it said that players would have to be 18 by 2021. They could still be signed as 16 year olds. I read that as by 2021 they'd have to be 18 to be draft eligible. Otherwise if that players drafted in 2018 had to be 18 by 2021, that would mean they would be 15 when drafted, not 16, and that doesn't make sense.
