Chris Getz to take over player development
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) I bet there are a lot more people who think 2 years in their current position is more than enough to prepare them for the next step. I really don't know much about him other than he supposedly is a bright guy and wasn't a very good player. As I stated when Theo became the player development director of the Padres, his only MLB experience was as a PR guy. Getz has more than that, and he wasn't trained by the White Sox. Obviously the Royals saw something in him to offer him a pretty decent job as soon as he retired from playing. Maybe he never gets this job if he didn't come up with the White Sox, but players are looked at as future coaches, managers, etc. by every organization as they come up. Every team is littered with minor league staff that has some sort of tie to their organization. His experience isn't much, but it's really impossible for any of us to say he isn't qualified. Let's face it, all of us have 2 years less experience than Chris Getz and think we know most of the answers. This is kind of the point. It is reasonable to think that Getz got all of the answers in two years? What is the average time spent in development before getting to run it for a whole organization? My guess is the number is a lot higher than 2.

Chris Getz to take over player development
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) You are trolling now, Allen. Trolling in its purest form. I have not complained about anything. I've offered up two observations on this hire - whether or not Getz was the best option available out there, particularly given his limited experience in the player development space. The other is that the White Sox hiring of someone should not be solely because of their prior association with the team, a la Mr. Ventura, nor should someone be precluded from being hired, which is where much of the conversation in this thread seems to be trending. But you are in such a damn hurry to start with your trolling nonsense you didn't even bother to actually read what I wrote. Do us both a favor. Avail yourself of the ignore option when it comes to my posts. Giving him a reaction is going to achieve the exact opposite of that.

Chris Getz to take over player development
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Since you are complaining, why don't you list some available candidates that would have been better hires, and tell us more about Chris Getz, and why he lacks the skills to be a good developmental guy. That fact is, you don't know. The ONLY reason people complain is because Getz was drafted and played for the White Sox. W Without being forced to name names, it is perfectly legitimate to question this hire. I get that a large portion of the questions are coming because of his status as an ex-player, but let's face reality and acknowledge that he is a guy with a pretty light resume too.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
The sad part is we all know what is going to happen. The Bears will continue to suck, so when Cutler comes back Fox has no choice but to play him. Cutler will win 3 or 4 games so they finish like 8th or 9th pick, instead of 1 or 2.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Defensive specialist MCW has more of a role than Snell, who likely would have been beaten out by canaan (who hits 3s), zipser (hits 3s) and dinwiddie (meh). Snell was unlikely to make this team. We are losing zero production other players off scrap heap couldn't recreate. Yeah, I couldn't figure out what Snell was going to give us this year that he hadn't already given us.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) I am also confident that Bears fans will be patient and objective with a new QB, not at all have unrealistic expectations, won't divide into factions of people who ignore things they don't like one way or another, and the next guy won't benefit from a "not being Jay Cutler" honeymoon that will abruptly end 2/3 of the way through his rookie season. Bears and Cubs fans are in a contest for the biggest meatballs for sure. But that doesn't change what should be done.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Because of their regression, the Bears are in a good position to acquire a franchise QB, but even assuming they don't blow the pick, I don't trust the Fox regime with a young QB. I am OK with bringing in a rookie QB into a fairly simple offense to grow into. I mean you can always add to it, or you can fire Fox and bring in a next level offensive guy. It seems like the worst thing you can do to a rookie is try too much versus not enough.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) No one told you that. Stop it. What makes you think that? What in the methodology of the polls do you think would leave them out? I'm genuinely curious. It seems to me that the Primaries saw a lot of voters who had never voted before, and that Trump pretty largely outperformed those polls during that cycle.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 05:27 PM) I can't think of a QB I've watched who generates so much offensive volume but has so little impact on the game as Hoyer. I guess he is the perfect John Fox quarterback. He simply exists, and he doesn't really do much for the game positively or negatively. He's so god damn timid in the red zone, it's like he knows everyone notices he has no interceptions and as soon as he throws one the bubble will pop. He's just the latest guy to show up and milk the f*** out of Not Being Jay Cutler. This was a vintage John Fox loss. Technically show up to play the game, do the minimum, allow yourself to lose. You just know that at the end of the game, Fox was playing for a field goal even though he had 2 minutes to score a touchdown. Again, it is easy to manage a game between the 20s when you have the entire field to concern a defense with. Once you are inside the 20, and the windows tighten, it takes some physical ability to make something happen. That is why Brian Hoyer isn't going to do much with this team. Sure you could put Hoyer on the field with a historic Bears defense, and he would win you 12 or 13 games, maybe even a Super Bowl. Put Brian Hoyer on the field with a historically mediocre defense, and you get 1-5.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) PSA: Hawks tickets have gotten really cheap on the secondary market for some reason. I don't know if it's cause they are at the same time as Cubs NLCS games or just Blackhawks overload, but you can get seats for under $40 for Tuesday night. That's been unheard of the last few years. Wow, it wasn't that long ago that SRO was $100 per.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) A friend of mine who lives downstate is a big Cardinals fan. He told me over the weekend that the Cardinals have serious interest in Adam Eaton. I don't know if the White Sox want to trade Eaton and I don't know if the Cardinals have any players we would want in return. I am sure about 29 other teams in MLB have interest in Adam Eaton.

Chris Getz to take over player development
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) So let's recap shall we? Rick Renteria named manager (part of "the family") Capra and Hasler named big league coaches (part of "the family") Now Getz (with all of TWO YEARS experience) is named Director of Player Development (oh yes, he's a former player and part of "the family!") It's like the Sox have a total repulsion with bringing in ANYONE who hasn't had a connection with the organization. All you can do now is shake your head...the jokes write themselves. According to a lot of knowledgeable folks here this position is important, the Sox desperately need their farm system to start producing and they hire a guy with two years experience for it. OK then... Mark This is a pretty fair stretch of the truth. One season after being hired from the outside, never having had anything to do with the White Sox before.

The Bears won the turnover battle +2, had more yardage than JAX, and more first downs, and managed to lose. That isn't easy to do in the NFL.

Chris Getz to take over player development
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I don't see going from Dir of Player Dev to 3rd base coach as a promotion, but maybe that's just me. Pay might be better, but I doubt it. You're going from a position of huge control over the entire farm system, to being a tiny cog on the major league club. Anyway, that aspect isn't terribly relevant. Maybe he just wanted a different role. What's key here is how they went about replacing him. Or he was "promoted" out of that position to get new blood. Though I do like the theory that they promoted him with a rebuild in mind.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) He would have had 1.5 years with Royals. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb.com/10...l?client=safari So he actually has experience in the job outside of the White Sox organization.
