  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) YOUR TEAM SUCKS YOU LOSING LOSER! YEAH WELL AT LEAST I'M NOT KYYLE
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Maybe just me, but I'm kind of embarrassed to wear Sox stuff right now. We're a mess and they're favorites to win it all. I'll just keep to myself. It is the opposite for me. It is these times that makes the actual winning even more amazing. 2005 wasn't special because I jumped on in May or June and they won. It was special because it was a life time in the making. I'm not a Sox fan for anyone else's approval, or because they win all of the time. They are my team, thick or thin.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) GET OUTTA THE ILLINOIS HS FOOTBALL THREAD, HOOSIER!!!!! jk
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) St. Joes? Michigan City
  5. Really excited about tonight. My HS is 6-1 for the first time ever (we always suck in football), and we are playing our rivals who are 7-0. It is also homecoming, and there are only two weeks left in the season, so this game could decide who wins the conference. We have already pre-sold all but like 500 tickets out of 5000, for the game tonight. It is going to be a sell out before the gates even open.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) Not really. They had the same fWAR but Avila did so with less than 2/3 the PAs that Flowers had. Avila was clearly the superior player when healthy this year. The problem is that you can't count on Avila to stay healthy, while Flowers usually is.
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Conor Gillaspie starting 3B for a playoff team. I was just thinking the same thing.

  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) The trade off has been illustrated for a decade now even though you won't pay any attention to it.. If you overheat the economy, you get inflation. If the economy is underheated and not stimulated enough, inflation will be below trend. 2k5 2009: "Shrink the stimulus, we need to fear inflation" Balta 2009: "If the stimulus is too small this will just drag on long term, if it's too big the Federal Reserve has plenty of ammunition to raise rates to fight inflation" 2k5 2010: "Cut the deficit before we get inflation" 2k5 2011: "Look over here, I see hidden inflation when you ignore the numbers everyone else uses for good reason" 2015: half a decade of below-goal inflation 2k5 2016: "Why is the economy still slowly recovering? It must be the tax code, I don't like that". Yet the multiple trillions of dollars of stimulus were multiples more than what you thought should have been spent anyway.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Well, there are organized protests that get messages out. Some people on here who are blasting me seem to be up for spontaneous protests. If you want yourself or your kid to get arrested and never hold a job again, go ahead and encourage that. Why is kneeling during the anthem an effective protest? Like I said, you are harming a group, the military, that has nothing to do with this. The anthem is their solemn song. If you doubt that, look at them during the anthem. What's wrong with a legal protest. Again, if you do otherwise you may never work again with a big fat blotch on your police record. No employer is gonna give a good job to somebody with a record. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) Hey King George, do you mind if we throw some East India Tea company tea into Boston Harbor? No? Ok.
  14. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) I agree that every team would want Chris Sale. But I doubt the Red Sox are going to break up a divisional championship team and possibly a World Series championship team to acquire Sale. The price is too high. They backed off last time and now their starting pitching has improved dramatically during 2nd half. I thought they might go for Q but now I doubt that as well. I think they will go in to the offseason looking to fill their holes-C, bullpen and a 5th starter. If they don't win it all, there will be a lot of pressure on them to do something in the off season.
  15. Somewhere Kenny Williams just flipped over a buffet table.
  16. Man, I have no idea who the Bears pissed off this year, but they did a good job of it.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Pence did a good job. Unfortunately he had to spend a lot of time defending the knucklehead that is running for president and Kaine had to be who he wasn't as part of Hillary's strategy (a total attack dog). Unfortunate that the main candidates are so much worse then the running mates / other potential options. I don't agree with Pence on certain social issues, but I do agree with him on quite a few things and would have been willing to vote for him (not my preferred candidate, but one I'd vote for) if I could. Instead I'll vote for neither and stick to my moral values and I think everyone in America who doesn't like either candidate should vote for either independent (just to stick it to the major two parties and point out how pissed we are) or write-in someone else. Don't vote for someone who is the lesser of two evils; Actually reject the system. I literally have talked to almost no one who likes either candidate, yet, most of them are all voting party line. If you want to change the process, speak up, and don't actually vote for the clowns. Help one of the independents win a state or two and use them as your referendum for telling both candidates they suck. Unfortunately from there, we end up putting it back in the hands of our government to pick, but they might actually recognize the statement made by the American people and pick a candidate who isn't one of them. We are brothers from another mother here.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) For sure. They aren't THAT bad compared to the worst teams, and they don't have the toughest schedule. They could easily be 3-3 before Minnesota comes to town and spanks them on national TV. The probably rank about mediocre. 6 to 7 wins sounds about right, but they have had awful injury luck, which could pull that number back down.
  19. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Interesting. So you expect unconditional "loyalty" from a fan base for a team that is "on record saying that they won't always tell the truth" to the fans (via the media), and in any given season, won't "fully go for it", whatever that means. That sounds like they didn't make a requisite effort to win which any fan would expect each season from their team, unless the team declares up front that it is a rebuilding season. The Sox did not say any such thing at the beginning of this past season, but instead led us all to believe with the previously highlighted quotes that they were going to do everything they could to "maximize" the opportunity to win this season with the current core. But now you suggest they cannot be believed or taken at their word. Again, I say, interesting. Ugh. One of these days you will learn what an observation is, but let me explain this. Again. I EXPECT nothing. Fans can do what they want to do. Now stay with me here, because this is where you seem to get lost, but, what fans do DOES have an effect on the bottom line of the franchise. IF they stay, or IF hey go is a big determination of the options that a franchise has. Those two ideas are NOT mutually exclusive. You can believe in loyalty, or you can believe in sending a message to the franchise, but it does NOT change the fact that those actions impact the myriad of options that a franchise has. If you want to continue to be offended by your misconception, there isn't much I can do about that.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Of course, what you don't acknowledge is that thanks to policies that have your support, a smaller and smaller percentage own more and more of the country. The top 1% goes from receiving 1% of income in 1980 to >25% of income in 2015, then either they must support more and more of the country. And the suggestion that this relates to the length of the recession deserves a sigh. That was an enormous consumption bubble that burst, killing a huge amount of demand, and because people were worried about "inflation" that was mathematically impossible we decided we were ok with it being long. When you count all of the spending done with this recession, specifically the untold trillions from the Fed, the last sentence is almost laughable.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 08:47 AM) #Bears players expect the ankle injury suffered by #Bears WR Kevin White to keep him out an extended period of time, I'm told. More bad news @rapsheet The Bears are going to win just enough games this season to screw up their draft pick. I am convinced of it.
  22. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) The results of the 2016 season might make it look like they didn't "go for it", but their stated intent from the middle through the end of last year suggests otherwise: “We’re blessed right now with some special talent that’s entering prime of its career, whether it’s Chris Sale or Jose Abreu, Adam Eaton, Jose Quintana, Carlos Rodon — he’s probably a little before his peak but certainly on the rise,” Hahn said in an interview on the Spiegel and Goff Show. “Our goal and intent all along has been to maximize the window to win a championship while these players are on our roster." - Rick Hahn, December 2015 "“It’s important that we not lose sight of what our organization goal was,” Williams said, according to USA Today. “And that was to give us the best three-year window. And we’re not going to abandon that completely with only three months to play. “If we do anything, it will be consistent with trying to maximize this three-year plan or window that we set out originally.” - Kenny Williams, July 2015 Rick and Kenny are also both on record saying that they won't always tell the truth to the media when it doesn't benefit the franchise. Plus you can just look at last off season's transactions and it is 100% obvious they didn't fully go for it. They didn't sign a top free agent, and they move top prospects to get a true front line player to fill a hole. The front office can say what they want, but the actions don't agree.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/i...miguel-gonzalez Check out his July game logs. That would have been the time to deal him, at the deadline. He's never going to pitch any better than he did in July and September. Do you really believe that KW kept Hahn from dealing him? Me? I have no idea what the situation surrounding Gonzalez was at the deadline including if there were offers, what the offers were, and what the team thought of the offers.
  24. QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) This will depend tremendously on how well they play in the playoffs. Totally. A lot of teams can look at getting to the playoffs today and be happy about it, and pretend to not need Chris Sale. All but one of the playoff teams are going home as losers, and will face additional pressure to do it again next year. Places like LA, NYY, and Boston are ones that get heaps of additional pressure if they don't get the hardware.
  25. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) Come on Mike, this is weak sauce and you know it. The left's objection to Romney's 47% comments wasn't a pedantic dispute about how many people don't pay federal income taxes. It was the subtext - he was saying to a crowd of wealthy donors that all Obama supporters were moochers who refused to take responsibility for themselves (whatever percentage of people don't pay income taxes, they're not all Democrats, but Romney tied a direct line) and that he was going to ignore them as president. He spoke in stereotypes, not facts, and people took issue with how he talked about them, not whether he was technically right or wrong. The big idea is that the system doesn't work when a smaller and smaller percentage support more and more of the country. Where they fall on the income ladder is honestly irrelevant. I mean I could just as easily argue that a guy like Trump generates billions in taxes (payroll taxes, gambling taxes, property taxes, corporate taxes, etc) so that any argument that he doesn't pay taxes is silly anyway, but what it comes down to is that the more of a pyramid the system turns into, the more unsustainable it is. The tax code as it is built now has a lot of loopholes for both the rich and the poor to get out of paying taxes. It has turned into an unnecessary bloated government bureaucracy, because no one can clearly figure out what is going on in the code. All of these things shift burdens and cause harmful secondary and tertiary effects to the economy as a whole. I also don't think it is a coincidence that each subsequent recession we see takes longer to recover from, more stimulus to recover from, and is on a lower recovery curve. It is all related to the velocity of money through the tax code.
