Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Potential to be what Quintana already is does not mean he is worth more. They both have friendly contracts. You simply have to ask yourself if you would trade one for the other straight up. I would not trade Quintana for Urias straight up, the Dodgers would have to add something. Maybe not a lot of something, but something. Q is simply more proven. There is no doubt that Urias would be a starting point for a Q or Sale deal. There would have to be more. A lot more.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Moving the goalposts when you said sexism isn't systemic? Lol those are some mighty specific goalposts! You're funny. Care to respond to the post prior, then? You're so good at evading from up on a high horse, but then again I guess horses ARE really mobile... Yes. Accusing me failed, so instead you tried to change it to something else. Play your games with someone else.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) you don't believe systemic misogyny/sexism has played ANY role in the portrayal of Hillary Clinton over the last 30 years? And there go the goalposts.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) I tend to agree with this. She does bring up Bill's Presidency plenty, which certainly puts those issues in play. That's not to say there isn't sexism at play though, as certainly there is. That last debate was like a video presentation of what mansplaining is. But that doesn't mean it's sexism to put Bill's Presidency into the discussion. It is not any different then when HR Bush ran on Reagan's Presidency, or when Gore ran on Clinton's Presidency.

Why Do KW/RH Get to Keep Their Jobs?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'd love to see one of Hahn or KW gone, preferably KW, just so things can be simple enough to allow the team to have a clear direction. That said, not to be picky, but I really had no issue with the Rollins signing. Anderson was definitely not ready yet, and no one can pretend they knew Saladino would be as good as he's been. It was a signing that made sense at the time, and wasn't a big deal. The Rollins signing actually served its purpose on the low end. While Rollins didn't hit to make it a home run of a signing, what it did do was provide a bridge to Anderson to get ready in the minors.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) Well they have 1 spot to fill, could be more than that but you have at least bench coach to fill. I would think if they are returning everyone, it would be in there. Wording like that tells me other heads may be rolling.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) Lots of things can still influence soft support and how enthusiastic people are to actually make the effort to vote. There isn't really "soft support" or "enthusiasm" outside of the supporters.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) When you say she's running on her husband's legacy, that's sexism. She has created a massively impressive legacy on her own. I don't care if you can't see it. It's normal that people who are sexist don't realize they're sexist. But systemic misogyny colors your opinion of Hillary. It isn't sexism. She is quite literally using that Presidency as evidence of her ability to be President. The idea that it is systemic is only systemic ignorance.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) Here it comes. An announcement Tuesday supposedly means Hillary is done as a candidate. What do you Hillary backers and apologists think of this story? Are you worried or think it's hogwash? Please be honest. Any tinges of nervousness bout this? http://www.bizpacreview.com/2016/10/02/wed...l-finish-396507 There is nothing that is going to be said between now and November that will change the supporters of either candidates minds. All of these "surprises" will be justified by their own support bases. It literally doesn't matter.

Kenny Williams Leaving?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Great, another offseason of endlessly arguing whether JR, KW or Hahn is most responsible for each bad or good move... I think Kenny Williams was responsible for this post.

ROBIN VENTURA appreciation thread
For all of the Robin hate out there, he could have easily set 35th and Shields on fire for the media, and left a smoldering pile of ashes for the next guy to try to rebuild, especially since he probably has no desire to manage again, therefore he had nothing to lose.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) It's pretty ridiculous that they didnt even interview a single other candidate. It just makes the whole Ventura leak thing even more awkward. This has obviously been the plan for awhile, so why even bother with that dumb ass charade? It honestly doesn't make sense that the White Sox were the one who planted the story.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) And that has nothing to do with LOYALTY! That has to do with the location of the park, the history of the park, the trendiness of the team, the fact that it's a bar-type college bro atmosphere. The reason they draw has NOTHING TO DO WITH BASEBALL Come on man. This is obvious. This is a great job at hitting some of the best historical excuses. A It even has the thinly veiled racial reference to the "neighborhood".

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Halfway true. If we had the same or lower tv rights deals of all those bottom 10 teams, that argument would be easier to make...we have a larger POTENTIAL market than the majority of teams, but have surrendered a lot of it to the Cubs over the last 30 years or so. Or you can simply argue Sox fans have gone inactive due to apathy, and the full Cubs' bandwagon has been reactivated with championship caliber teams and the potential for it to continue for at least 4-5 more years. Bad timing with both bad teams with limited offense and no ability to draw on mushrooming media rights deals that have elevated teams like the Rangers and Mariners into the upper tier revenues-wise. When the White Sox were at their apex, and the Cubs sucked, they couldn't out draw them. The Sox don't have that fan base. Period.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) Of course she couldn't POSSIBLY be running on HER OWN 30 year record in public service. Subtext: (because she's a woman) SMH Do you even listen to her speak? She is constantly mentioning the Clinton Presidency. The whole it has to be sexism thing is pathetic.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) ..... We are a large market team. That doesn't mean the Sox and Cubs aren't still two completely different entities. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. We exist in a large market, but are not a large market team. Even at our best, we ranked in the bottom part of the league in attendance.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Really enjoying the storylines in the NBA this year. Durant going to the unstoppable Warriors, will they succeed? Such an amazingly fun team to watch. The legacy of LeBron James continues. The Chicago Bulls have a new look roster, what can we expect? I expect great things (by great, I mean playoff bound). The NY Knicks have a crazy team. Noah / Rose / Carmello / Porz is an interesting squad to say the least. Is it the Boston Celtics time again? What a roster they have put together. So many young players as well. What will the 76ers do with all the talent in the world and no experience/playing time. They need to make a deal or two? The LA Lakers after Kobe Bryant, will Russell take the next big step? Where's Rudy Gay going? Spurs continue their boring greatness with Gasol / Kawhi / LMA / Parker, etc. Not that I have been excited about NBA basketball in a long time, but with the retirement of so many great players, combined with the Bulls being pretty uninteresting and the movement of Durant to GS, I can't recall being less excited for an NBA season in forever.

Who stay...who goes???
I think some have way too high of an expectation of the talent level of the guys at the end of the 25 and 40 man rosters. If those guys were really good, they wouldn't be the last guys on the roster. Every 40 man is loaded with bad players.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Well, the present election is a good example. Hillary being dinged for her husband's trade policies from 20+ years ago or using the term "super predators," it goes with the territory. Two events that happened twenty years ago, related to Alicia Machado and Trump's Federal taxes/losses, are going to help decide the election in her favor. Maybe that's why Obama had an advantage in 2008, having more of a blank slate and much less of a record to run on or against, but looking at only "recent" comments would generally lead to younger and even more inexperienced candidates, yes? That is because Hillary is running based on her husbands record, and her involvement in those things coming to fruition.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (captain54 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) This. ^^^^^ Thank you It's almost as divergent as LA Dodger fans vs NY Yankee fans. Two completely different environments, fan bases, experiences. So to hold up Sox vs Cubs attendance #'s as a true mark of fandom loyalty..complete and total BS Yet you have people trying to sell the White Sox as a large market team in the exact same thread.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) Well, in 2008, the last time the Sox went to the postseason and one of only five times in the past 56 years they've done so, they drew 2.5 million plus fans to the park. Last I looked, that was considered a very strong attendance showing. Now why you keep bringing up 2012, I'll never know. They didn't win anything that year. They did not go to the postseason, so it doesn't even matter. Throw it on the scrap heap with the other 50 years of non-postseason appearances of the past 56 years and forget about it already. 2008 was lower than 2007, when they lost 90 games.
