USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) And what would be the "facts" you could possibly offer to back up your assumption? You literally had to read it to get to that point of the post.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Quit crying about how the Sox have no money to operate while all the others teams do. They have no one to blame but themselves. One franchise debilitating move after another over the years has taken its toll on the organization. The organization is in a huge market with a large fan base in a wide geographic area. Operate like a MLB franchise instead of a company softball team, and good things may come their way Your harping on the Sox having no money to operate properly makes as much sense as the American car makers, decades back blaming the Japanese for stealing a huge share of the market, by being able to produce a quality product for the same money. The way it works in American enterprise, is.. you offer a product to the consumer, and if you get no takers, you figure out a way to turn the tide and make the product more attractive to the consumer. In other words, assume some responsibility and accountability. It's not that hard to understand. It doesn't get anymore basic than that Again, even with another $100 million, or a 40+% increase in revenue, they would STILL be closer to last than first. I get people hate JR, but I wish they wouldn't let that color the actual facts.

**Gary Johnson 2016 election thread**
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) Every poll shows Hillary doing worse vs Trump when all four candidates are listed, and better when they aren't, therefore it does seem that it's liberals, or at least left-leaning independents that are voting for 3rd party candidates. In relative terms, not absolute terms. Both teams are losing votes to 3rd parties.

The best thing that could happen to the Bears if for them to absolutely bomb this season and be helped along the rebuilding with much higher picks all of he way through the draft.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) The reality of revenue is this. The White Sox are no where near the big market teams in terms of dollars earned. The Yankees brought in $516 million in revenue last year. Tampa brought in $193 million. The White Sox brought in $240million. To further expand on this. Even if the Sox ran the table, and made another $100 million, they would STILL be closer to Tampa in revenue than the Yankees.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) Except that the Sox don't have a sweetheart TV deal like the Yankees and probably won't any time soon because their ratings suck. MLB is nowhere near where the NFL is in terms of TV/streaming money right now, and those 81 games of ticket/parking/concessions revenue still mean a lot. The reality of revenue is this. The White Sox are no where near the big market teams in terms of dollars earned. The Yankees brought in $516 million in revenue last year. Tampa brought in $193 million. The White Sox brought in $240million.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) It still has some meaning but simply not as much as before the billion dollar TV deals and the myriad ways MLB is producing revenue through non traditional streams. MLB is now in the NFL's ballpark when it comes to generated income. To say nothing of the lease agreement which in some strange ways actually makes it better for the Sox to not draw well since then they don't have to chip in for maintenance fees to the state of Illinois. Mark Is there any actual evidence that the gain from the drop off in fans is actually greater than what they would have gained by having fans there? I hear the lease used a lot, but I have yet to see it actually proven.

**Gary Johnson 2016 election thread**
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) I'm just wondering if swing voters that vote third party will just hand the election to Trump. Most third party candidates tend to be liberal in their leanings. Given how much the party machinery has dug into Stein and Johnson I would say that each party seems to fear that potential voters will leave them for a 3rd party more than they do that they will leave for the other major candidate. I can't recall this much attention being given to the 3rd party people since Nader and Ross Perot.

**Gary Johnson 2016 election thread**
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) I'm pretty sure the thread is about Gary Johnson, and the current topic became world leaders when he couldn't name one. Oh! He also couldn't name a supreme court justice in the same town hall event. Weld says "Kennedy" after GJ flounders again. Then slowly, Johnson follows with..... You guessed it, Kennedy. My question is this. In light of the revelation that Gary Johnson has absolutely no graphics on high school level foreign policy, and may just have no grasp on policy period, how do his supporters justify their votes? For me, it is absolutely 100% a protest vote. I know he has no chance of winning, but I don't care about that. I care about trying to legitimize an option better than a douche and a turd sandwich in the future. The candidate isn't important, in fact he is 100% immaterial.

**Gary Johnson 2016 election thread**
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/s...n-leader-alepp/ So Gary Johnson can't name a single foreign leader, including Vincente Fox. Five minute candidate. It is also worth nothing that Fox is no longer the leader of Mexico. Nieto has been the Presidente for about 4 years now.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 07:27 AM) Seriously? Uh, how about the money he's spent? In just the past two years, I'm counting about $150M in financial commitments to Melky, Robertson, Frazier, Shields, Samardzija, LaRoche, etc. Not to mention the long-term deals that he gave to Abreu, Eaton, Sale, Quintana, etc. That may not be George Steinbrenner money and one can question the intelligence of a couple of those moves (Shields, in particular). But it's pretty significant spending by somebody who doesn't have the Steinbrenner family's financial resources. If Reinsdorf doesn't care about winning, he wouldn't be spending like this. He could've saved a lot of money by fielding a team full of the Sox's crappy AA and AAA players. Look, I realize that you're pissed about the way that the organization is being run and I don't disagree with you about that point. But the idea that winning isn't a high priority for Reinsdorf is just dumb. Exactly.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) I heard someone talking about this bill on TV so take this with a grain of salt but if I understood him correctly, other countries could also sue the USA for war crimes. So US citizens could sue Saudi Arabia and most of the countries in the middle east that don't get billions in foreign aid could sue the US. If that's true, it's probably good Obama vetoed but that's an incredible number on the vote. What is interesting is that an exception for this sort of stuff has already been put in the old rule, and been tested in court. http://articles.philly.com/2008-06-02/news...-immunities-act

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) My guess is that Tigers fans don't share your assessment. They haven't won a championship in 32 years and have an aging, declining roster. Ilitch is worse than JR, wasting $100M+ money on good-but-not great players like Justin Upton and firing a highly competent executive like Dombrowski. And they have no ring to show for it. Life as a Tigers fan will likely be worse over the next five years than life as a Sox fan. The Tigers collapse is going to be prolonged and ugly. The dead contracts are going to just kill them.
