  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I am very opposed to the idea of an international draft, I think the current system they have now is good but it needs to be regulated better. I am opposed to an international draft, but I am more opposed to the system we have now. I want to see these kids not get a special status simply because they aren't American. Submit everyone to a world wide draft. It is the absolute most fair thing to do. The NBA can do it, as can the NHL. There is no reason MLB can't handle this.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) I never said now it can't be talked about. Show me one post where I wrote that. I just said it was funny Getz is discussed more before he even started and anyone knows what he's about than Capra got in 5 years, when there was plenty of complaining that could have been directed his way. Even in the new coaches thread, not a peep about Capra's job performance. Quit making things up. Awesome. Then quit trolling people for doing so. Thanks!
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I believe it said that players would have to be 18 by 2021. They could still be signed as 16 year olds. I read that as by 2021 they'd have to be 18 to be draft eligible. Otherwise if that players drafted in 2018 had to be 18 by 2021, that would mean they would be 15 when drafted, not 16, and that doesn't make sense.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) It's not a non point. EVERYONE thought Nick Capra was so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, he was never brought up on this board. Only when he had a quote about a player. Now it is one of the most imperative positions with the franchise turned over to Chris Getz who although he knows more than anyone hear, apparently doesn't know crap because he was in the White Sox system a couple of years ago, and this move will keep the team from winning for a long while. Its a mid level position at best. Your argument is that because no one said "Nick Capra" that now it can't be talked about, is just being argumentative. Player development has been a central theme of Soxtalk for years, and you know that. This fake SAY MY NAME argument isn't really a thing. It is "rigged election" in terms of reality. Every Sox fan knows that player development has been a central theme of discussions for years, well except apparently you.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) Show me any talk about the director of player development, then pop off, You have latched on to that non-point pretty tightly. Again, there is no pre-qualification of needing to say someone's name to be allowed to talk about Chris Getz. Soxtalk doesn't operate like that.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) And there is zero proof that Getz was the only candidate. But go with it. Where is the proof that anyone else was interviewed?
  7. I love that they are going to raise the signing age to 18 instead of 16.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) That is my point. This position didn't matter much until they hired someone and the thread is pretty much the same no matter who they hired. I think it is pretty funny Getz is a failure. We will see in a few years. Another strawman. Again, people have talked about player development for years now.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/20...-upon-election/ Hillary Clinton vows to slam the economy into recession. And we wonder why there's no point discussing actual policy anymore.... It is amazing the gymnastics that get performed to defend Clinton and her statements. When you have major media making excuses for her own words, there is a major problem. One on side there are calls for calling a candidate a liar, but then you have this. This is why people have the concept of a biased and untrusted media. It is exactly because of pieces like this.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) Because they didn't hire from within. Why is Renteria an outsider but Getz an insider loyalty hire? Why didn't they hire him when he retired? Renteria has coached 50 more White Sox games than Getz played. Yet there are zero proved cases of interviews being done in either case, and the job was filled in less than a week.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) I don't know, but I would guess they looked a few people. Why is that?
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) That's the whole point with me. If you are rebuilding, why are you trading for a guy who will be 27 next season? Go young with the rebuild, don't half ass it like we've been doing with the "retooling". Because we all know the Sox aren't burning this to the ground. Even a rebuild will have a much shorter window than your typical rebuild with an eye on competing ASAP.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) The point I am making is perhaps this guy is pretty qualified. Maybe they did interview several others. He is a hire from another organization so it isn't like they remained in house. I really think if Getz came up with the Dodgers and never played for the White Sox, those who find this move so wrong in so many ways would be OK with it. He hasn't been part of the White Sox way. Again, we don't even know wher Buddy Bell and others jobs end and his begins. They probably have a pecking order, but the organization appears to use or at least imply they use a lot of collaboration. I don't know if he is any good or not, but the Twitter world baseball people seem to think he is a good idea. We will see. Sideways or up is really the only 2 was the arrow can point from here. This just isn't a loyalty hire. Maybe they don't hire him if they didn't know him previously, but it isn't like they have been dying to get Chris Getz in the organization in some capacity like they have others over the years. This is different. I would love to see who they interviewed. Who was it?

  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) CEO of a basketball team? I dont know, I kind of see a similar thing to GWB, just does a few speeches for cash each year and then has fun. I think Barack is more worried about his legacy, hence his work already in this campaign season. I don't see him walking away like W.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) You love to pick fights. The reason is the White Sox director of player development has received more attention in 1 day than the position has received in 5 years, and it is because a guy played for the White Sox 7 years ago. That is a funny thing to be on your mind. Why is that? You know the reason why this is being talked about. And it isn't because no one said the words "Nick Capra" sufficiently enough.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) There is no strawman. All I wrote was Getz gets more play on this board before he even started than Capra got in 5 years. IT HAPPENS TO BE THE TRUTH, but you and BMAgs decided it was time to argue and said player development has been discussed a lot. Which I agreed, but this thread is about Chris Getz, and a lot of posts are about how he is most likely not qualified. Yet no one ever really mentioned his predecessor. If the argument is that you had to use the phrase "Nick Capra" to have an opinion on Chris Getz, then no it is not the truth, and yes, you have constructed an irrelevant strawman for no good reason.
  18. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) He's gonna retire to Kenya and open up a masjid. Here I figured he was going to join a nice Mujahadeen.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) So in other words, a Nick Capra thread doesn't exist. It doesn't have to exist. That is the point here. The strawman you are constructing isn't valid.
  20. While it seems popular now because it always seemed that Hillary had the White House in mind, I see no scenario where Michelle Obama runs for an office. I think she is done with politics. What really interests me is what Barack Obama does after the White House.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) I call BS. While the player development has definitetly been slammed plenty and deservedly on this board, Capra is never mentioned, and if the consensus was he was so bad at his job, how come there was barely even a mention of him when he became the 3rd base coach. Just a couple of it's odd that a PDD would become a 3rd base coach. Nothing about his past job performance. If the Sox named Buddy Bell 3rd base coach, there would have either been outrage that he was still employed, or joy that he didn't have anything to do with the minor leagues anymore. And if it is all about what the White Sox think, why question Chris Getz? They obviously think he will be better in the role than Capra? This particular position became 10 times more important went an ex White Sox player got it with 2 years experience, even though those 2 years were with another team. The lack of "evidence" isn't evidence at all, when all of the actual evidence is there in front of you.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) He drove people who typically skip the primaries but end up voting Republican in the general to show up for the primaries. He was bringing "new" voters to that stage of the race, but they aren't a new voting bloc for the general election. Polling of both the primary and the general bears this out. That's not 'discrediting' anything but explaining what happened and why it's not likely to lead to some surge of previously unlikely voters to vote Trump this November. You can add new voter registration rates by party and race to evidence against the idea that he's bringing a lot of new people into the GOP coalition. Like it or not, Trump excited a cross section of voters who largely sat out McCain and especially Romney. The numbers are there.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Whatever. I said Getz got more play on this board before he started than Capra got in 5 years. Link a thread or two that proves I'm wrong. Specific Nick Capra talk. From now on, minor league failing will be pinned on Chris Getz. The player development of the White Sox organization has been very clearly slammed both on Soxtalk and around Major League Baseball. Moving the goalposts to something in the nature of SAY MY NAME is just silly. This isn't freaking Voldemort being talked about here. Even without saying Nick Capra, it is obvious that player development has had some major issues. Obviously the White Sox thought that someone else would be better in Player Development, otherwise Nick Capra would still be doing the job. To me that is the most obvious indictment of all of what was thought of the job that Nick Capra was doing. But feel free to keep on the usual posting path with this pedantic line.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) Trump typically underperformed his polls if anything in the primary, it was just that the pundits didn't want to believe what the polls were saying. This is from May, but Politico did not find Trump expanding the GOP. What he drove was higher turnout in the primaries/caucuses among people who were already likely to vote Republican in November. Except they turned out in record numbers, so there was something there, despite the attempts of the left to discredit it.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) I have not read once where Capra who was the player development director for 5 seasons, needed to be replaced. I've seen Hahn blamed, JR blamed, KW blamed, Buddy Bell blamed (by me), Laumann blamed, but never Capra. Either most of us didn't consider his position really some sort of senior position or he was perfectly competent but everyone else was making him look bad. This is a gigantic stretch, even for you.
