On a side note, if anyone ever gets the chance to see the grassy knoll and book depository in Dallas, it is well worth the trip. The power of the whole thing is incredible. I also never realized how small that area was until I did that trip.

Well that means Kenny Williams has to go

-- New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza said he stopped taking an ephedra-based supplement following the death of Baltimore pitcher Steve Bechler in spring training. Piazza told the Daily News on Sunday that he was "freaked out'' by Bechler's death, believed to be related to the pitcher's use of an ephedra-based diet pill. Piazza addressed the subject Sunday when asked about a story in the current of issue of Playboy that quotes the star catcher as saying, "Ripped Fuel is kind of cool.'' Ripped Fuel is a nutritional supplement that contains ephedra. "Obviously that interview happened before (Bechler died),'' Piazza said. "Once I heard about it, I was like, 'Whoa.' I stopped taking it. You've got to be careful.''

Rules and Scoring: It should be easy to keep track of who picks whom. 1 pick per person per game. (so if there's a double header, you get 2 picks...one for each game) Don't make a pick with a substitute pick either. The first player listed is your pick. Because of situations like pinchhitters if you pick a player that is it. BUT you do have up until the first pitch of a game to CHANGE or MAKE your pick. Hitters are the only players eligible, no pitchers. If the highest scoring player is not picked by anyone, then the next highest scoring player, who was picked by a contestant, wins. 1 pt per Base 1 pt per RBI 1 pt per RS 1 pt per SB (-1 pt per out in official AB or CS, in case of tie only) A specific player can only be taken twice in one week. Picking a player for a 3rd time is the same as making no pick. This is the site where the standings and picks can be viewed. http://whitesox.blogspot.com/ Does everyone like this system???

So the whole league must be hitting .243 because of the inside strike right?

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/current/pap2003.htm Kid K also takes the lead in Baseball Prospectus's pitcher abuse points. Also notice how high Zambrano and Prior are in the list...

Pierre would be perfect in our line up. Both on offense and defense. Then again it wouldn't matter who was on base right now, with the way the middle of the order has been hitting.

I agree with Hawk on one big aspect of the DH, it makes the pitchers more likely to throw at someone because they don't have to stand in and bat. It is a sort of immunity, and it leads to a teams best player getting hit instead.

JOE COWLEY RIPS kw TO SHREDS!!!..PLAYERS TOO
southsider2k5 replied to baggio202's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In the short term of that example sure you want KW's job, but in the long term the Dodgers have an incredible farm system including outposts all over the world, of which they are not afraid to sign forgien kids. They also have a much bigger payroll and in a couple of years once those contracts get off of the books, he still will have a much higher payroll than the Sox. -
Yeah you won 8-5. I won 11-1 and I posted my Gagne for Nelson pick.
-
And once they saw PA was switched everyone went back to ESPN, lol

It is out there and open to all. I am hoping for a better turn out than we had over on ESPN, as there are more people who post over here. I know we will have at least the 5 of us who have just made the switch, plus a few other people have already posted picks for tommorrows game. I got a good feeling about it.

White Sox manager Jerry Manuel had said he would wait until Monday to determine whether to skip Jon Garland's next turn in the rotation. But the suspense ended Sunday when Garland began warming up in the bullpen late in the game. Turns out Garland was available for relief duty because the Sox won't need him to start until next weekend in Minnesota. "He'll be treated as a fifth starter," Manuel said. Are the Sox trying to light a fire under the 23-year-old right-hander, who has posted one quality start in seven tries this season? "Exactly," Manuel replied. "He has to step it up." Outwardly, at least, Garland seemed unaffected by the move. "I dug myself in a hole," he said, "and now I have to get myself out." Garland has been criticized on radio talk shows for saying he believes that fans who come to U.S. Cellular Field should not boo the Sox. "I've just said that they should feel like they're part of the team and should stick behind us regardless of what happens," Garland said. Have they done that? "Not when you boo your home team," he replied. "How's that sticking behind them? But, hey, that's the decision that they make." Manuel, asked what kind of reception he expects the Sox to get Tuesday in their return to the South Side, couldn't resist a little humor. "Have we ever gotten a good welcome?" he asked. "I expect a standing ovation when we come back, a full house packed to the brim—55,000 screaming. I'm serious."

By Bob Sakamoto Tribune staff reporter Illinois basketball fans can forget about 6-foot-10-inch high school all-American Charlie Villanueva, who had given an oral commitment to former Illini coach Bill Self, now at Kansas. Villanueva submitted his name Friday for the NBA draft, but he will not hire an agent. That way he will keep an option to withdraw from the draft by the June 19 deadline and remain eligible to play in college. If so, he will choose between Kansas and Connecticut. "Charlie is going to set up some private workouts with NBA teams to show what he can do," said older brother Robert, a 6-6 junior who plays for Queens College in New York. "It will give him a chance to find out where he might be picked in the draft." Helping Charlie Villanueva evaluate his draft prospects are summer AAU coach Gary Charles and Adidas consultant Sonny Vaccaro. "I'm pushing for Charlie to sign with Kansas or UConn before he starts working out for NBA teams," Charles said. "That puts him in a win-win situation. "If he decides to withdraw from the draft, he will be all set for college. Both of those schools are holding a scholarship for him. "It's so hard to predict right now where Charlie might get picked. "There are 10 players from Europe expected to come out for the draft. We will either travel around for workouts with NBA teams or conduct a session at a central location and invite the teams." Villanueva averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds last season for Blair Academy, a prep school in Blairstown, N.J., and was rated the No. 5 senior in the country by FutureStars magazine.

Jon Adkins wasn't doing much in the Oakland organization which is reknown for developing pitchers. Why would anything think that we could do better with him?
-
He has to be HOFer. Palmeiro has been remarkable similar to Eddie Murray's career. Never HUGE numbers, but always consistantly great numbers. Most likely a first ballot HOFer.

One rule that I noticed isn't on the site, but is a cornerstone of our game is that you can only pick a player twice in one week. That way someone can't pick Maggs all week long, or something similar. You have to spread your picks around and think about matchups and such.

Pick to Click for Tuesday May 13th
southsider2k5 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The way we played it, for simplicities sake is that you only get to make one pick for the game, no matter if they play or not. You do have up until the first pitch of the game to make your pick so you can wait until the last minute to see the lineups. It gets to be a mess if people are picking multiple people, plus what happens if your first pick pinchhits? That is why we just went with the one player one pick rule.
