  1. The question should be what are they trying to screw the players out of.
  2. 2/3 of the earth is covered by water, the other 1/3 is covered by Luis Robert.
  3. In a lot of instances, refusing to cooperate is the same as failing the underlying check. For example refusing a drug test is considered a failure. No idea if that is a part of this or not, but we will find out soon enough.
  4. So does this mean Lynn gets a suspension now too as this was over the substance check?
  5. This will the 3rd straight night of at least 4 bullpen innings.
  6. We threw a shutout last night giving up 8 balls with 100 mph+ exit velocity? That has to be a statical oddity, no?
  7. Why does that make a difference? Think of it this way. Going back to 2019, 2 of the 10 teams who made the playoffs had sub .500 records against teams over .500. Without going over 20 years of data, I am going to guess that this a pretty typical percentage. If you want to do the work, feel free. But the point is if you have something in that range of teams with that sort of performance (20% of teams) yet 35% of the time they are winning it all, it seems to tell me that the correlation isn't as strong as you might think it is. That's a pretty big over performance of even a random outcome, let alone one that gives more weight to beating good teams in the regular season.
  8. This is exactly why sex based trials are awful. The alleged victim gets put on trial along with the defendant. Even if all of that is true, it also doesn't mean that a crime didn't occur.
  9. That was exactly what I was wondering about. Andrew Vaughn has been really hot as a hitter, so it seems like a weird time to be giving him load management.
  10. I have been all about making sure we can sustain this, but I don't see Nick Madrigal as some irreplaceable guy.
  11. I would rather try to win a World Series this year and next, but hey, to each their own.
  12. This is what I was looking at yesterday. it could be just getting a guy some down time who has played his first full season in pro ball, but it seems like a lot of down time all in one stretch, especially with a short bench.
  13. At this stage it is also worth mentioning that even if Madrigal is a better player, Hernandez stays healthy. If you look back at full seasons, the lowest total he has since 2015 is 127, which was his first full season. He has seasons of 161 (2Xs) and 155, in addition to the 128 and 127. He was also 58 out of 60 in 2020. So he is at 113 of 120 this year, 58 of 60 in 2020 and 161 of 162 in 2018&19. If nothing else, even if you give Madrigal a bigger peak, the fact that Hernandez will play essentially every single day means his full season production will have a large advantage over a guy like Nicky who hasn't show the propensity to stay in the line up.
  14. Personally I think his lack of speed and quickness will keep him from being a guy that the statistics like. He does run straight and clean routes, and seems to react well to the ball off of the bat. Even if he is never a 0 level defensive OF, he is a guy who isn't going to actively "hurt" you. If his bat develops the way we all hope it will, you are more than fine with stashing him in the OF with this level of defense.
  15. They should use build his innings in the minors, and maximize his potential in Garrett Crochet. The Cubs shouldn't be in a hurry to win, as they will just piss away payroll trying.
  16. All of those guys seemed pretty pissed about the public statement of them all getting fair contract offers. Who knows if a real offer changes their mind, but the Cubs sure didn't seem like they valued those guys very highly.
