He's a starting DH now. He will back up catcher and first base though.

I don't know too much about Sweeney but that's not what I've read/heard about him. I don't see how Owens couldn't do what Podsednik does -- use his speed to get on base with weak singles and steal bases. Ever look at Podsednik's minor league numbers? Owens blows him away. I thought that we were talking about 2008? Of course Anderson will struggle in 2006. It's his rookie season afterall.

Maybe, but then we would need to trade Dye. Sweeney's position is RF so he should be starting there when ready, not on the team as a fourth outfielder.

If Sweeney develops 20-25 HR power as has been projected and Anderson hits 15-20 homers like he's supposed to, how would that be so much less productive than Podsednik, Rowand, and Dye? Like you said, our outfield productive was weak last season (44 HR's).

I agree with you. I just don't think that Ryan Sweeney will be with the Sox until he shows some power in the minors and that could take a couple of seasons. He's only 21 years old afterall.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
Owens.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
Yep, and perhaps other teams don't view Podsednik as a defensive liability in CF like the Sox do. His value to other teams would be higher if they think he can still play CF. I seem to remember the Giants being interested in trading for Podsednik to use him as a CF'er before KW snatched him up. Pods will be a few years older so the Giants will love him even more.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
There's no reason to trade Dye at this point. He's dirt-cheap ($5 million in 2006, $6 million team option for 2007). You just keep Dye and give Sweeney two full seasons to develop. Podsednik might be a good trade option because Owens could be ready soon. But when is Pods a free agent?- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
I definately think that our 2008 opening day outfield will be: LF Jerry Owens CF Brian Anderson RF Ryan Sweeney- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
That would be pretty shocking but I doubt it. The Sox still want him to develop his power in the minors. I doubt Sweeney makes the Sox roster until Dye is gone after 2007 so he can be our starting RF'er.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
And that's why Grieve will be donning a Knights jersey.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET

I don't think Chad Gaudin is going to make the A's roster.- OAK vs. CHI Mar. 7th 3:05 ET
Chad Gaudin is a bum, hehe.- White Sox Make 9 Roster Moves...
I think they told Ben Grieve to go butcher right field for Charlotte. Nice to see Bentz gone. He was brutal. Hopefully, Rusty Tucker does well with Charlotte.- Bobby Jenks' entrance music
