Hehe, that was pretty good stuff.
-
Nope. High draft picks don't necessarily equal top prospects.
-
I don't want draft picks for Contreras. I want good MLB player(s) and/or top prospect(s) for him.
-
But what if we lose Contreras after 2006 to free agency. Would you rather have Uribe or Tejada after 2006 if Contreras goes elsewhere? You have to also keep that in consideration.
-
^^^^^ Yep. Shawn Estes was a stud in 2004. He had 15 wins. Oh wait, his ERA was 5.84.
-
Actually, it would pretty much be an even swap of salaries for 2006... Contreras's 2006 salary: $8 million + $1 million of signing bonus Uribe's 2006 salary: $3.15 million Tejada's 2006 salary: $10 million + $2 million of signing bonus $12.15 million - $12 million = $150,000 The Sox would actually end up lowering their 2006 payroll by $150,000. Of course, Tejada's salary increases in future years so our payroll would increase after 2006.
-
If Contreras won't re-sign with us, I hope this trade goes through. Contreras, Uribe, & a prospect FOR Tejada

My guess... This Gary Rosheisen originally made the 911 call and collapsed right after dialing the number before saying anything. His cat came in and sat next to him, probably looking to play. Rosheisen either forgot that he originally made the call before he passed out or he is embellishing the story for some strange reason.

Taveras would hit second if he was on the Sox. I don't need Ozzie to tell me that. It would go with everything Ozzie and KW said earlier this offseason about adding a #2 hitter with speed so they could move Iguchi down lower in the lineup.

Eduardo Perez will platoon with Ben Broussard at first base.

Here's a couple avatars for you to show your manlove for the Widgenator...

Their pen really isn't that bad now... Aaron Small Tanyon Sturtze Mike Myers Ron Villone Kyle Farnsworth Octavio Dotel (when healthy) Mariano Rivera The last spot in the rotation should be up for grabs though, unless they trade a starter... Randy Johnson Mike Mussina Carl Pavano Shawn Chacon Chien-Ming Wang Jaret Wright -
Yay, now they want to replace Craig Wilson with Preston Wilson (the much crappier Wilson)... Craig Wilson's career stats (29 years old): .268 .363 .488 .851 Preston Wilson's career stats (31 years old): .264 .333 .478 .811 Brilliant!!!

Jeff Blake Appreciation Thread

Make Blake our starter. Grossman could hold Blake's jock on the sidelines. -
Their offensive games will probably be very similar but the fact that Taveras plays great defense in CF and has a great arm makes him more valuable than Owens. Owens is a left fielder. Just think if Taveras played LF instead of CF. His value would be far less than it is now. But I guess you could argue that when Podsednik is gone, we could just have Brian Anderson in CF and Jerry Owens in LF so it wouldn't matter much.
-
If KW does end up deciding to trade Contreras but Baltimore won't take him in a package for Tejada, I think KW will wait until Jeff Weaver signs to deal Contreras. Weaver is the last decent starting pitcher left on the free agent market and Contreras' value would be at it's peak if there was no good free agent option left.

Their bullpen should be better but their rotation is still weak. Randy Johnson will be one year older and worse. Mussina is also aging and not getting any better. Carl Pavano had his one good season in 2004 and got his big contract. Jaret Wright sucks away from Leo Mazzone. Shawn Chacon and Chien-Ming Wang are probably their best pitchers after RJ and Mussina and and that's not very impressive. -
But they're the Pirates and they suck every year. They should attempt to keep any young player that shows any sign of talent. The Pirates haven't had decent production from the first base position since Kevin Young in 1999 and most other years he was just a mediocre hitter. They finally have a decent first baseman in Sean Casey now but he will cost them $7.5 million and he will be a free agent after 2006. Chris Shelton would have been a much cheaper and younger option for them and they would've had him for years.
-
Looking at Chris Shelton's minor league stats, why oh why did the Pirates ever let him get away? They truly are just a stupid organization.

Replace "Garland" with "Contreras", rinse, and repeat.

He probably still wants to strangle Jock Jones. It will be funny if Freddy ends up pitching against the Cubs next season.
