We aren't paying $8 million to Frank, $4 million to Everett, and $3.25 million to Rowand. That's $15.25 million. Thome will make around $8 million and Brian Anderson will make the minimum.
-
Who cares if he strikes out a lot? An out is an out and Thome will still get on base more than anyone else on our team. The only guy who could match Thome is a healthy Frank Thomas.
-
Have you ever said a positive thing about the White Sox? You amaze me with your negativity.
-
I was thinking either that or the numbers of homers that Thome and Konerko will combine for. B)

Rowand didn't hit a lot of groundballs this past season because of Ozzie Guillen. Unfortunately, he hit a lot of choppers to the shortstop because he was swinging at bad pitches. He batted mostly in the middle of our lineup so he really wasn't asked to move over many runners. He was expected to drive the ball.

Ed Farmer was on ESPN 1000 and said that he has known Thome for 14 years and talked to him recently. He said that Thome's elbow is healed and that his back problems have been exaggerated. Farmer thinks he's close to 100% healthy right now. I know it's just Ed Farmer but I thought I'd throw it out there. -

The Indians were also said to be interested. They could use a first baseman so Hafner could be the full-time DH since he stinks defensively. Thome said that he would waive his no-trade clause for the Indians and they also had the prospects to deal for him. Would you rather see Thome back on the Indians? Did you forget how much Thome used to rape us? -

I guess he figures if you throw enough crap at a wall, eventually some of it will stick. -

Does Bruce Levine suck yet? Now Levine has gone back and forth about Pierre going to two different teams. A week or so ago, he said that the Cubs who were close to a deal for Pierre. Two days after that, he changed his stance and stated that he never said that the Cubs were close to a trade for Pierre. Earlier today, he reported that the Sox were still interested in trading for Pierre after the Thome trade went down. The very same day he reports that the Sox aren't interested in Pierre and will likely stick with Brian Anderson in center field. He's a carpet-bomber, nothing more. Cue the picture. -

WSCR 670's George Offman said that a good source told him that Jerry Reinsdorf told Paul Konerko that the Thome trade will have no affect on the Sox's ability or desire to re-sign him. He also said that Frank Thomas is gone whether or not Konerko re-signs with us. The Sox just don't know enough about Frank's foot to bring him back even if Konerko leaves. They would go in a different direction. He said that the Sox could trade for a guy like Aubrey Huff if Konerko leaves. Also, the Sox are still interested in Bill Mueller because they are worried about Crede's back. -

I hope someone recorded it or that they have it at WSCR 670's website. It was an interview with Jesse Rogers, just for your information. -

One bad season due to injury and Thome is trash. Kind of hard to swing a bat well with a bad elbow, isn't it? These are the types of posts I laugh at. Please look at Thome's seasons from 1993 to 2004. :rolly -

He is talking about how great he has felt the past few days. He was at the Panthers/Bears game last week and all the fans were thanking him. He says he's not bitter at all about being traded. The Sox were the team that gave him a shot. He's just sad that he's leaving all his friends like Crede and Buehrle behind. He said he will also miss the fans a ton. -

True but when that trade went down it looked like a steal for us. Kevin Beirne, Brian Simmons, and Mike Sirotka for David Wells? That was highway robbery if Wells stays healthy. Too bad that David Wells was a fatass drunk and didn't care about giving 100% for the Sox. I think he cared more about eating pizza puffs that year. -

I know. I was just using hindsight to show that many times prospects don't turn into the super studs that people think they will be. Kenny Williams makes out well on most of his trades. Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe Miguel Olivo, Jeremy Reed, and Michael Morse for Freddy Garcia Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras And Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik and Luis Vizcaino worked out for both teams. -

So true. I noticed that a lot of people think that if a player (Thome, Pierre) has a bad year that they are instantly garbage. Rowand also had a bad year after his great 2004 season. You can't play favorites. I would put my money on Thome rebounding over Rowand. That makes me sad though. -

Another aspect that I don't think everyone realizes is that our window to win the World Series again is mainly in the next two seasons. We will have our entire rotation and bullpen back next season. Contreras will be a free agent in 2007 and Buehrle's 2007 option will have to be picked up if we want to keep him for one more season. -

I just remember the entire media saying that we overpaid. Instead, Olivo is not even on the Mariners anymore, Reed looks like the weakest hitting center fielder in baseball, and Michael Morse got busted for using steroids. -

When we traded Miguel Olivo, Jeremy Reed, and Michael Morse for Freddy Garcia, I guarantee that most people were saying the deal was in Seattle's favor. Prospects are prospects. We needed a lefty #3 hitter. We all knew this all of last season. Now we have the best DH in baseball. -
I will miss Rowand but: Jim Thome & Brian Anderson >>>>> Carl Everett & Aaron Rowand.

I didn't read through this entire thread so bear with me if this is old news. Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 reported that the Sox are no longer interested in Juan Pierre. George Offman of WSCR 670 reported that the Cubs are still trying to make a deal for Pierre. It looks like Brian Anderson will be our starting center fielder.
