Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
Giving a 33 year old reliever a third year player option for what is likely a lot of money is not very wise. Eyre will be 36 years old by then and there's no way he won't pick up the option. The Cubs should have made it a team option or added a buyout after the first two years of the deal.

Hermanson will earn $3 million in 2006.

I think fathom was wondering if any of Rowand's 3 assists came from throwing a runner out at home. I personally don't remember Rowand throwing anyone out at home. I could be wrong though.

Of course. I have been talking about Rowand's and Pierre's arms this entire time. Not their ability to field the ball. Rowand is better defensively than Pierre. It's just that both of their arms sucked this past season so I don't see how one would make much of a difference over the other.

I know Pierre's arm is terribly weak. But honestly, the way Rowand threw the ball most of the time, I don't see how Pierre's arm would be any different. They would both suck.

Here's how: I do stand by what I said though. Rowand's arm was not good this past season.- JUAN PIERRE
You are putting words in my mouth. He was great at fielding the ball. I don't think he had one of the stronger arms in the A.L. though. Not even close.- JUAN PIERRE

No, I meant what I wrote. Anyone who thought Rowand's arm was strong and accurate this past season must have been watching another team play.- JUAN PIERRE
I agree with you on Pierre. I like the idea of having two speedsters at the top of the order but we would need a good power hitter at both first base and DH to make up for such a light hitting outfield of Podsednik and Pierre. Also, Rowand's defense was awesome but it's not like he did much with his arm. I don't see how Pierre's weak arm would be much of a difference from Rowand's.- Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
I'm not so sure now. This is straight from Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc This could be the worst reliever contract in the history of the MLB.- Aaron Rowand
Are you Bruce Levine?- cubs get eyre
I think the article is wrong. It has to be $11 million total if Eyre picks up the third year player option.- cubs get eyre
Quick, everyone get in line. Jim Hendry is giving away money! Check this out. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-c...ov=ap&type=lgns How does Scott Eyre get all that money to begin with and also get a signing bonus and performance bonuses? He's a 33 year old reliever who had one good season. Jim Hendry is insane.- Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
Sorry, it's a combined $9 million but the point still remains. It's even more disgusting when you look at the three players' total contracts: Glendon Rusch: 2 years, $6 million Neifi Perez: 2 years, $5 million Scott Eyre: 3 years, $11 million That's a combined $22 million dollars for three mediocre players. What will Giles cost? 3 years, $30+ million?- Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
Exactly, even though it was his one good season.- Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
Remlinger had reverse splits. He was a lefty that was better at getting righties out. So, of course, Dusty used him against lefties.- Yankees ask about Rowand
The slide was nice but he still hit only .200 for us. I will never forget Blum because of his huge homer in Game 3 but he was far from a great acquisition at the deadline. If you remember, Ozuna was getting a lot better defensively at third base the more he played there and he actually hit. Okay, I agree with you here.- Cubs, Sox in pursuit of Scott Eyre
Bruce Levine was right about something. He is reporting on ESPN 1000 that the Cubs signed Scott Eyre to a 3 year, $11 million contract. What a horrible contract. :puke- Yankees ask about Rowand
Geoff Blum did suck. He was awful in the regular season. He hit one huge, clutch homer and that's the only reason everyone loves him now. Do you honestly think that Kenny traded for Blum thinking that he would hit a huge homer in Game 3 of the World Series?- Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
One of the reasons the Dodgers don't have a lot of freed up money to sign Konerko is because Odalis Perez has 2 years and $15 million left on his contract. They are rumored to want to dump Perez already. Well, remember when Konerko was struggling really bad in 2003 and was almost traded to the Dodgers for Odalis Perez in 2003? How's that for irony?- Yankees ask about Rowand
I would respect Levine more if he didn't just lie about his reports. Like I said, he reported that Pierre to the Cubs was very close. Two days later, he denied he ever said that the trade was close. That's pretty weak. Willie Harris for Wes Helms. Need I say more?- Yankees ask about Rowand
Don't forget how Levine reports that a trade is in the works like Juan Pierre to the Cubs and then when the trade falls through, he denies he ever said it a day or two later. I remember him reporting that the Indians had signed Alex Cora like it was hot news, even though it had already been reported in a Cleveland newspaper days earlier. The guy is a joke.- JUAN PIERRE
I wouldn't mind having Pierre in center field and having two speedsters at the top of the order. Iguchi could then move down in the order. But Pierre will make way too much money next year and will be a free agent after the season. - JUAN PIERRE
