A good manager...
He has to do SOMETHING to wake up this team. Why do I keep saying that?

Friday's game
For a big guy, Adkins has the skinniest legs since Babe Ruth.

For those that wonder if it's over...
If Jose is dogging it on the bases, and if Robbie just aged ten years in the last month, and if Olivo refuses to lay off curve balls out of the strike zone, and if Everett continues proving that he is not a centerfielder, then this team is about to enter free fall. I would be all for bringing up Hummel and Reed. I don't know what the big deal is. Who is the better hitter, Konerko or Reed? Looks pretty obvious to me. Let Carl DH, put Frank on first. Last year when the team was floundering they brought up Crede/Harris and started playing Rowand. The team got a little spark. IF we play like this through the weekend, they need to be shook up a bit.

Friday's game
Back to Jose. Never saw a replay of the play at third, but the camera was right on Jose as he came into third and it looked like he had it at about three quarter speed.

Another quality at bat by Frank.

For those that wonder if it's over...
After watching these guys for 4 innings tonight, I think it's over. I'll keep watching, however.

Olivo
If his shoulder is bothering him, why can't he take at least one pitch that is in the dirt?

Friday's game
Yahtzee, I had the same question.
-
Olivo
I think that it is entirely possible that he will go the rest of this month without getting a hit.

The Aaron Rowand PT thread
Jiminez was already toast.

The Aaron Rowand PT thread
We will never know what would have happened if the Everett/Alomar acquisitions were never made. Just days before, Rowand was installed in center and Harris at second, where they should have been to begin with, notwithstanding Rowand's early season futility. Both Rowand and Harris were playing well before the two trades were made. If those moves had been made a month earlier, we might never had acquired Ev and Robbie. Now, it's just spilt milk.

Official 8-13-03 Game Thread vs. Anaheim
Can one of you guys with a TV give some details on Rowand's defensive heroics in the second inning? Tks.

Royals game..
I used to think that I knew something about baseball. Then Kevin Appier shuts down the Yanks.

Sox speed merchants
Be a good way to beef up attendance for one game. They ought to have a race. Jason should put it together, now that he has connections.

Line Ups- Sox & Angels 8/12/03
Wright found his niche.

Sox speed merchants
Who would win a race, say 50 yards, between Sandy, Frank, and Konerko?

Line Ups- Sox & Angels 8/12/03
I don't believe CLee is a FA next year.

I have a question about how the system works
Airfare would be prohibitive.

Schoenewies
You might be right, Danman. I'll let it go. But I never said that he was the "next big thing." I just think he is a pretty good pitching prospect who didn't need to be included in the trade. He'll no doubt be in AA next year, and he can be more accurately judged then. We've given up three decent pitching prospects lately (Ring, Rupe, Francisco). It's not like we're loaded with too many good prospects. I think KW is too generous in giving up these kids.

Ross Gload
The Rockies dispatched him because there was no way he could ever supplant Helton, and they have three high priced outfield starters who happen to be pretty good players plus an even more promising youngster (Reyes). Still, the guy is a player, based on accounts of others. And we control him, so let's keep him until the 2004 outfield situation is resolved (Lee, Everett).

Schoenewies
I have never seen Bittner, but his numbers are excellent. He might turn out to be a star, and he might never get close to the show. Makes no difference. He should not have been included in the trade. It's just another example of KW giving up way too much. I say again, Glover/Schoen was justifiable at the time. If the Angels ask for a genuine pitching prospect with very good Class A numbers to be thrown in, tell them "No". Now, with hindsight, it appears as if the Angels were reeeeeally desperate to get rid of Schoen. WTF did we have to include the kid pitcher who is racking up K's with a very good innings/hits ratio? Where is the quid pro quo? Kenny?

Pete Rose back in baseball?
I was alway against his reinstatement. Now, I'm too tired ane too indifferent to comment. But, pleeeease, don't ever say that he was a good manager. He was awful.

Schoenewies
I still say it was not necessay to give up an excellent pitching prospect like Bittner for Schoen. Glover/Schoen was justifiable. Bittner isn't.
