  1. What is Tony's status? Arbitration eligible? FA?
  2. If you like Woody, you ought to read his columns. He's one of the all time greats.
  3. Jason, do you have a 40 man roster available? Tks.
  4. We are stuck with Konerko for 2 more years. Other than the Dodgers, who would want him? Which team could he help in 2004?
  5. If the Cubbbs blow the NLCS, the idiot will be an instant celebrity and will probably be on the Today show before the end of the week.
  6. First, there is no reason to think that he won't pitch a great game. Unfortunately, the TV camera will be on his wife the entire game, and we will have to listen to that drivel about her for another nine innings.
  7. I think Robbie is washed up. He helped defensively , but only when compared to Jiminez. Harris should get the second base job. He'll hit and his speed will be a lot of fun to watch over a whole season.
  8. Spreaking of top prospects, does anyone have a list of those minor leaguers that will have to be protected this winter or exposed to the draft? I know Jason Stumm is in that category.
  9. Regarding Jose, you might be right, CWSOX. He had 503 AB's + 53 Walks. I think he needed 570 PA's. Don't know about his Sac's or hit by pitches. Anybody have this info?
  10. Where is he headed for 2004?
  11. I hope we keep maggs. No one forced us to offer him $14 Large. But if we do trade him, we need to throw in either Koch or Konerko or Jose. Two out of those three.
  12. The A's will undoubtedly make a qualifying offer to Foulke, and thus get a draft pick for him from the team that signs him. We, however, get to pick up Koch's salary for another year, before he is gone for good. No way you can dress up that trade to make it look good for the Sox. It cost us a playoff spot in 2003. End of story.
  13. Sox don't need castoffs from the Twins. We can't afford them either. Plus, we are overcrowded as it is. Maggs, Lee, Everett, Rowand, and we Have to give Jeremy Reed a chance to start. No room at DH with our twin slowpokes, Frankie and Paulie. Lots of people on this board like Ev and Robbie, but if we offer $7 + MM to Carl, we are fools, and if we don't, he is gone. Robbie is washed up, and every other team knows it. Harris should start at second, even if he didn't hit well his first month with the Sox last Spring. The kid can play. And he's cheap. Give me a four man outfield of Maggs, Lee, Reed, and Rowand. At least there is a center fielder in there. Trade one of the slowpokes, if at all possible. Concentrate on pitching and a manager who can have the team ready to compete on April 1st. Then, in two years we can all watch Ring, Rupe, and Bittner have successful beginnings to their big league careers. Webster a year later.
  14. The Sox painted themselves into a corner. Jose has an option for $5 MM. That makes him untradeable. Regarding that position, you might as well be thinking about 2005.
  15. We are stuck with Jose at SS for 2004.
  16. Robbie will take a 50% pay cut to stay??? I guess he would. What did he get this year, $8 MM? So he says he will take $4MM to stay?? Who else would take him for anything above the minimum? No one.
  17. Cameron will never come here because the Sox have made it obvious that they want someone slow to play Center. However, if we do bring in a FA outfielder, then it will ensure that Jeremy Reed will have no place to fit in and he can go back to the minors and hit .380 again.
  18. I still think his biggest shortcoming was not having the team ready to play at the start of the season. They almost recovered, but never really did. The team looked complacent as if they could just go out and turn it on, and they were thoroughly outplayed for far too long into the season. Kenny's biggest flaw was not being able to pull the trigger.
  19. Somtime in mid-September, 1959, when the Sox clinched the American League Pennant with a victory over the second place Indians in Cleveland in a one game series (make up game). Early Wynn Started, Bob Shaw relieved, Gerry Staley saved. I think the score was 4-3 or 4-2.. Jim Landis made a big hit, and Nellie made a big time play late in the game.
  20. Pettite will be very expensive, also.
  21. I like Rupe, Ring, and Bittner.
  22. Steve, the reason there won't be any draft choices from them is because if we offer them the required minimum offer, they will simply accept the offer, because it is well over there value, especially in the case of Roberto Alomar. Alomar will have little if any demand for his services outside of Chicago.
  23. Did someone say Carl Everett and $7 MM in the same sentence?
