I hate to throw in fantasy talk, but I'm so set for keepers it's ridiculous. Philip Rivers, Michael Turner, Jamaal Charles, Hakeem Nicks, Dez Bryant, and Vernon Davis.

It's a downgrade, sure. But it's also not that big of a deal and I understand their reasoning from a business perspective. After about 15 road games, this won't matter at all and it will hardly be noticed.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) Holy sh*t, Kevin Love Very happy to have him on my fantasy team. I still can't wrap my mind around what he did.
-
I would honestly rather not see him pitch for us until mid-way through the season in '11. Let him take all the time in the world to REALLY get back to 100%. If he's throwing off a mound in January, let him keep working his endurance and velocity up until he's Jake Peavy again. Trying to rush back will obviously only hurt him.

If you had to bet on one signing of a new player.....

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Just got back from it. A couple of chuckles but very disappointing. Skip it. Netflix it. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) "Due Date" rocked. Interesting. In other news, I saw Avatar on Blu Ray and my goodness is visually spectacular. The plot is nice and all, but that's a movie I watch for visual stimulation. Watching Star Trek next. I also have The Road next up on Netflix, REALLY looking forward to that one.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 12:52 AM) Either play him the first 2 minutes of the 4th quarter to see if he can stretch the lead out (for those watching, he absolutely on fire) or bring him back at the 6 minute mark when you still have the lead. Instead, he kept him out and player after player tried to challenge Noah on the baseline. He ended up playing 38 minutes and Denver has a back-to-back with Indiana tomorrow and 3 games in 4 nights so I can understand it. Playing him to start the 4th would have defeated the purpose of giving him the extended rest between quarters. It's part of the game. Gotta keep guys fresh, especially early in the season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Yep, you're right, I said never rest the starters at all. I see nothing wrong with bringing in a player 2 minutes earlier than you had anticipated based on the flow of the game. So do you think Karl was at fault for siting Melo to start the 4th or for giving him too much rest and not bringing him in earlier? Not much you can do if a player gets hot and then the quarter ends. And it's not like Anthony didn't play well when he did come back off the bench.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) And that's why I hate it, as it shows no feel for the game. Carmelo single-handedly gave the Nuggets the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, and he never got that rhythm back. And it's also a little different when Kobe sits for the Lakers, as he still has an All-Star team on the court when he's out. Well you'd make a horrible NBA coach.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) Joakim dominated tonight. He's really dominated all season, and boy do I love him more and more by the day. I am VERY glad I was wrong on the Hawes/Noah thing.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Ronnie Brewer is -24 in his 13 minutes of game action That stat is so flawed it's ridiculous. He actually played pretty well and he really should be starting at the 2. The thing is, Thibs has the entire 2nd line in together most of the time, so that's not a stat they are normally going to do well in. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) Something I hate about the NBA is the stupid substitution patterns. Karl seemed to give that game away by having Carmelo on the bench until under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Every team does it. You have to keep guys fresh. If you watch the Lakers, Kobe sits at almost the same times every single game.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) One of my co-workers just told me this story: Growing up, she lived down the street from Bobby Hull. The year Hull had his mouth wired shut, they froze over a park near their house, Hull brought a teammate and my co-workers brother was their goalie! He dad drove a bus for a good friend of Hulls and was with Hull in the locker room the year hull was wired shut. So, yesterday my co-worker gets a phone call from her son's friend... he said he was sitting at a bar with Hull and he wanted to talk to her. They talked for 5 minutes remembering the old neighborhood. I was told a cool story this weekend by our club team's hockey coach, who is a former NHL player, about how his grandfather was an original investor in the Maple Leaf Gardens. He invested $6,500 because he was neighbors with Conn Smythe. Eventually some time down the road, his share was $1.5 million but he had no clue and was later given 40 grand and he thought he was rich.

1st good thing John Scott has done all year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Has icing the kicker ever worked? Oh yeah. But it's also backfired where they miss the 1st after the TO and made the 2nd. Stats show that icing the kicker actually IMPROVES their probability of hitting the FG though.

A win is a win.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Nick Roach is a terrible player sf1. I agree that there's good young talent at the skilled positions, but the two Northwestern guys you mentioned aren't players to build on. How can you write off Wootton without having seen him on the field? And what a freakin' punt by Maynard.
-
Wow, let them convert a 3rd and 11. Jeez.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Young does not equal talented. What have Webb, Williams, Wooten, Roach, Bowman, etc shown you that suggests they are good football players? When have our coaches put them in position to show that they have talent? Webb, I was able to watch a lot on college since my school is D2 and we played him the last 2 years. He's a specimen and with the right coaching, he could be a dominant tackle. Seriously. Williams has been a bust so far, but between injuries and position changes, its hard for him. I still think he can be a decent lineman. Wootton seems to be getting the Bears redshirt, real nice. Bowman and Roach have all shown flashes of great play.

What a genius call on the shovel pass!

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) The scary thing for the Bears franchise right now is that they have very little young talent. The defense is effective because of 3 guys who are all 30+ years old (well Briggs will be on a few days). The offense has basically no talent on the oline, mediocre WR and mediocre RB with an incredibly talented but inconsistent QB who has very little help around him. What happens when Briggs, Urlacher or Peppers start going down hill? Angelo's horrid drafting and personnel moves the last several years have put the Bears in a position where they could like be in for a 10 year run of awful football if the stars on D have quick declines. Angelo's drafting since 2004 has been an embarrassment. He has no business having a job as a GM in the NFL right now. Bennett 23 Knox 24 Forte 24 Williams 25 Webb 22 Wright 22 Wootton 23 Roach 25 Bowman 25 Moore 23 The Bears have talent. What they don't have is a coaching staff to best utilize and evaluate and develop that talent. They also don't have a GM who can properly evaluate team weaknesses and do something about them.
-
Wow, we suck.
-
Wow, a drive where they had success rushing. And a rushing TD! From the 1 yard line. Wow.
-
Offensive line costs us points too after back to back false starts on 3rd and 3. Ugh.
-
Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava. Peace.

They'll be fine in the long-run, but they don't look very good right now.
