Braves After Arroyo, Offering Reyes and Escobar
SoxFan1 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Uuum, can we please get rid of Contreras now. -
Except now Gagne is headed to Boston...

ESPN ticker says dealt for Padres "prospect." Take it FWIW.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) probably got a poo nugget A nugget? What kind of value do you think Mack has? We got a pellet at best.

SoxTalk was all over this one.

For a Minor Leaguer....per Jayson Stark.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:10 AM) Wale has underperformed since he got here and he is usually playing against the weaker tackles. To be fair, he has been plagued by so many lingering injuries in the past couple seasons. He's an above average DE, and when healthy, he could be one of the best in the game. I'm way more excited about Mark Anderson though. He is beastly.

ESPN's Buster Olney said a deal is in place for the Dodgers to send Betemit to the Yankees in return for reliever Scott Proctor.

I see Ljungberg went to West Ham. Another nice pickup. Zigic is close to going to either Man City, with Fenerbahce, Tottenham, West Ham, or Werder Bremen all in the mix as well.

Holy hell. The Fire signed Paulo Wanchope. f***ing solid.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) 1. he's injury prone (screw in elbow, weight issues) 2. he's going to be cheap while we suck and expensive when we start winning 3. if you're trying to equate bobby jenks' value to that of pujols, you're off your rocker Not to mention, rebuilding teams don't need a great closer.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) It's not stupid, the argument is not based on draft round position. You said ALL college football footage is a moot point. There are plenty of 1st rd busts, just ask the Bengals of the 90's. When and where did I say ALL college football footage was moot? I said "college football clips are moot at this point" referring to Dvoracek being a year out of school, coming off a season long injury, essentially meaning it would be comparable to handing a rookie 3rd round pick a starting job right away.

BREAKING NEWS:

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) What do people think the chances are that WMP could bring the Sox A level compensation if he walks in 08? Zilch to none?
-
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) Well, you asked me what I've seen and I answered you. College footage is not moot, if you take that argument in the equation, then, Reggie Bush(last year) or any NFL draft pick should have never be put into projections or predictions. I trust JA's judgement on late rd picks and from what I saw on Dusty's college footage, I feel good about it. I never said he should start, I said, may the best man win. Don't put words in my post. Wanna calm down and quit crying? I didn't "put words in your post." And the Reggie Bush comparison is just stupid. Hmm, 2nd overall, or 3rd rounder?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...illo/index.html Wasnt Ruben Gotay a starter for the Royals at one time? Is he still considered a rookie? Gotay is in his 3rd year now. And he did start for the Royals a bunch. Rookie? I don't think so.

I'd like WMP and Masterson for Dye a lot. It would be even spicier if we could flip Pena somewhere else for something younger or with more upside.
-
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) Ive seen plenty of footage from his OU days. The man has a non-stop motor, He just keeps on trucking. He has a chance to be pretty decent. College footage is moot at this point. No one knows how he's done, or how he will do, against the pros. He's essentially a 2nd year rookie. Basically it's like handing him a starting spot as a rookie out of the draft.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) Well, unfortunately, Dye doesn't seem to be nearly as good of a fit for Atlanta as Tex. Tex is there next year if Jones walks, so they still have that bat then, Tex plays 1b at a GG level, Dye is an OF, the Braves have some of the worst production in MLB out of their 1b slot, and the Braves have Francoeur, Harris, and Jones all producing well in the OF for them. I just don't see why that deal would make sense for the Braves. Well, I'm thinking from the perspective of pinning ATL/NYM against each other for a bat, and also to see if they had any interest at all in Dye. I don't think he'd be a good fit either, but I wouldn't really care as long as we got a good return.

I wonder is KW was talking to Atlanta at all about Dye. This is just a ridiculously good deal for Texas. I've always though Teixeira was overrated.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) from Roto: Bears acquired DT Darwin Walker from the Bills in exchange for an undisclosed 2008 draft pick. Buffalo likely got a fifth-round pick or better from Chicago; the Bills would've received a sixth-rounder had Walker continued to hold out of training camp and had his rights revert to the Eagles. Walker will add depth and a proven pass-rushing interior presence behind Tommie Harris in Chicago. Dusty Dvoracek is still the favorite to start. can someone explain why? I like what I have seen from Dusty. But, Darwin is a HUGE upgrade over tank and should not be on the 2nd line. What exactly have you seen from Dusty? He hasn't played at all.
-
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) But how long was he playing hurt? Trade rumors have been circulating around him for a bit, and it's hard to trade a guy who's on the DL, so he may have kept playing and hoping the pain would subside. I don't think there's any reason to think he won't be back to hitting 35+ home runs per year. You expect him to hit 22 home runs in 2 months? I just don't see it from him this season. Maybe next year, but think of the ballparks in that division...

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) One of the larger buildings currently under construction and scheduled for completion in 2009 is the 89 story Waterview Tower, set to be the city's 5th tallest building. It will be located on Wacker between LaSalle and Clark. I'm sure there are better drawings than these out there... Also under construction is 87 story Aqua (set to open 2009), at N Columbus and E Southwater St. I looooooove new buildings. Didn't know about those 2. The Waterview Tower looks very nice. Here's the picture from Wikipedia:

Grandpa Hilton says Paris loses $60 mil inheritance
SoxFan1 replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in SLaM
Why do people even care about Paris Hilton? She is just a dumb chick who inherited a lot from her family. I'm tired of hearing about her in the news. America's infatuation with celebrities has always puzzled me. What the f*** do I care if Hilton is sucking someone off or if Lindsey Lohan smokes crack. Sheesh. -
This is a great deal for Texas. Catcher has been one of their biggest needs since Pudge left, and they have one now. They can use him at 1st if need be too. Andrus and Harrison included only makes it that much sweeter. Great haul for Texas...not sure what Atlanta was thinking. Teixeira isn't the guy he was a couple years back.
