  1. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 14, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) meh, slacker. Welcome to the club It wasn't that long ago that 10,000 posts meant something around here. Yeah, I remember not too long ago when that used to be called the Loser Line and everybody above 10K was considered a freak. Now, 10K to just over 11K is considered the epicenter of coolness but anybody much above that is still pretty much a loser. I know. It's funny how social standards change around here but I always seem to be right there in the heart of the cool zone. I can't really explain it either.
  2. QUOTE (easyw @ May 14, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) just one.. the only one I need... 'Sweet Emotion' by Aerosmith. do you prefer listening to that on shuffle or straight-play mode?

QUOTE (The Beast @ May 14, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) I guess it all depends upon what you want to do during summer then. That is certainly true. I needed a break from classes, so I kept my regular job working at a gyro joint and also took a job at record store that was just opening up. I was in heaven with all the promo music and store discounts. Zorba's, the gyro place, was right next door to Mabels back when it booked music that didn't suck, right across the street from place with good cheeseburgers and well cared-for pints of Guinness, and down the street from a great burrito place and a cool pool hall. And all of that was just a stumble away from my apartment, so all was good.

QUOTE (Felix @ May 14, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) Being at college over the summer is awesome. I don't get why people go home, it's so much better on campus. I stayed here last summer, and it was amazing. Of course, this summer I'm going to be out in Utah working, but still... Agreed. my first legal summer I stayed in Champaign instead of going home to Chicago and it was one of by best summers ever. I worked two jobs, drank like a fish, played a lot of music, saw a lot of music, and only had to make one trip to the ER for stitches. Great summer.
  5. I just don't get this late night show-jumping stuff. It's the same thing as back when Letterman and Leno were both vying for the Tonight Show gig after Johnny's departure. I know Letterman and NBC had other issues, but even with the presumed prestige of taking up the mantle from Johnny I never understood why he would have wanted to abandon the show that he made in his mold. Same thing now, Cnan is either going to have to shoehorn himself into a Leno-type mold or else he'll break the mold and do his own thing and then he's leaving his own show just to recreate it. I know the Tonight show contract is worth more money. And I realize that moving up an hour in the time slot means larger total viewership, but that move also will cost some core viewers who's schedule or habits won't let them tune in for an earlier show. it makes sense that NBC is going to want it's best draw to help the Tonight Show, and with jay gone that would put Conan next in line. But it still just all seems pretty stupid to be.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ May 13, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) If you could squeeze it out without killing yourself. I don't see it as much of a challenge. I've been completely full of crap before.
  7. I'm in the camp of sunflower seed eaters that just chews 'em up and swallows them shells and all. Lots of fiber. Of course, if I ate all 324 bags I'd probably crap a coffee table.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) Happy belated Birthday Ian ^^^
  9. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 12, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) the irish barstool, LOL Ooh I like it, but it seems more appropriate as a Scottish stool to accommodate the kilted freeballing tartan clansmen.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 12, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) I never watched the cartoon so I didnt really know what the premise was when I first watched it. Premise? I think "Robots in Disguise" pretty much covers it I think.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Yes, they need an Episode VII - The Hidden Circle That would be too cool. Lucas said he was done with the films but maybe some day as animated adapttatiosn at leas.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 10, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) The trailer for the new Star Wars Clone Wars movie Awesome I was hoping that after the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series that they'd have moved on to do other storylines, but this does look like it will be good. If I had my druthers, I'd like them to do a series exploring a post-EpVI storyline ala' some of the best Dark Horse stuff, but Lucas didn't ask my opinion.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 9, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) The first seven minutes of Speedracer I thought this movie was going to suck, I have changed my mind I just bought two DVDs worth of the original series so my kids can get up to speed(!) on why it was the collest cartoon ever, in anticipation of seeing the film.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ May 8, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) Is Bjork Canadian?Or what about Seal?Tiny Tim... Canada. . . Iceland. . . it's all just a bunch of snow and pasty white folks. Seal was born in London. Sadly, Tiny Tim is one of ours.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) He said North American. Meaning that Kim Mitchell, Chilliwack, and Paul Schaffer are all elegible for Best Band nominations! Kim Mitchell is awesome because his greatest hits anthology could have been on 45-rpm.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Why do the best American bands have to be limited to the 70s/80s? White Stripes, Green Day, Nirvana I know these aren't conventional, but all three have influenced music greatly. I agree completely that many newer bands have been very influential, including the three mentioned here. But, if the conversation started out as singling out THE best North American band and not just really great bands, then I think by definition you need to take time into perspective to see how persistent the influence has been and whether the music has stood up under the weight of time.
  18. You know, I think this should be next month's list, knight. What about the Velvet Underground, the Ramones, CCR, the Mothers of Invention, the Grateful Dead. . . ?
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) I did a refresher on youtube just now. They have talent, but they are merely a bar band compared to Aerosmith, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CSNY, Rush, Kiss, Steely Dan, Doobie Bros., America, RHCP, Allman Bros., even the Beach Boys. I think 'best North American band' is too hard to answer, but come on, the Band was way more than a bar band. Robbie Robertson was a brilliant writer and Helm, Danko, Manuel, and Hudson were all incredibly soulful and expressive musicians, and each of them a multi-instrumentalist to boot. Lynyrd Skynyrd - now THEY were a bar band. . . and proud of it. I'd think that Brit Graham Nash being part of the lineup, you can't consider CSN and/or Y a North American band.
  20. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 8, 2008 -> 12:17 AM) In addition, I'm prepared to make the assertion that the best band to ever come out of North America is...The Band. You'd be hard-pressed to make a better pick, they'd certainly be in the running.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) You would think that Tim Burton would jump at the chance to bring two face into the story Well, certainly that was the plan at some level for a sequel, wether Burton ever cared much to pursue it I don't know. After Billy Dee was introduced in the first film as Dent, he even signed a pay-for-play contract with Warner in the belief that he had secured a role as Two-Face in a sequel.

  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 6, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) I blame the f***ing Twins announcers on my MLB extra innings package! They literally said the phrase "no hitter" every 2 seconds! And they also called Floyd "Gavan Smith" after the last out, so there ya go.
  24. Almost forgot what it feels like to win one. :gosoxretro: Gavan Rox! :notworthy
