A man walks into a bar. You'd think he would have seen it.

QUOTE (The Critic @ May 1, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) I love Elvis Costello, but he was also one of the worst shows I've ever had the misfortune to attend. He played a show at the Arie Crown, no band - just him and Steve Nieve. It was the most boring show I've ever seen - I literally fell asleep, as did my wife. When I woke up, I woke her up and we walked out. 50 bucks a pop, too - I was not a happy Critic that night. I really like when well-known acts do the occasional stripped down shows, but I know it's not everybody's cup of meat. I probably would have liked that show. And I'd probably have snatched your wallet while you were sleeping.

Why was the tombstone always unhappy? Everyone kept taking him for granite.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) I got the call for my great-grandma's funeral. What's this going to entail? Sorry to hear about your loss. Wear appropriately somber attire (take the opportunity to by a new dark suit if you have the $), and maintain a respectful manner. The funeral directors will cue you in on everything else.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Oh and Adam Sandler movies... Happy Gilmore is excellent, Billy Madison is solid, The Waterboy was decent, Little Nicky was passable. Not a fan of the rest, mostly. Not a Wedding Singer Fan? I thought that film was very good and I thought Sandler was great in it. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) If we open it up to more than just comedies for Sandler and Carrey, I would have to say Punch Drunk Love and Eternal Sunshine were excellent and they were excellent in it. I also liked Sandler in Spanglish, but maybe that's just because anybody looks good basking in the radiant glow of Paz Vega.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) Oh, man I'd love to see Costello perform. I'm not a huge Police fan, but Costello I could definately dig. I saw him play two shows for the Blood and Chocolate tour many years ago, and they were two of the best shows I ever saw. Back-to-back on consecutive nights, the shows had completely different band lineups and set lists. On of the shows was the Blood and Chocolate album in its entirety. The other show was an Attractions show where they had all the songs on a wheel that audience members would spin to determine what song they'd do next. If the same song came up twice, they'd do it again in a different style. Great shoes. I love Elvis. Edit to add: Dang, I'm getting senile. It wasn't Blood and Chocolate, it was the Spike tour.

I'm going to see the Police and Elvis Costello in concert on May 16th. You young pups might not be too excited, bt there have been very few shows in the last 10 years or so I've been this excited about.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Uh, no. Its not supposed to make you hallucinate because its 140 proof. Well, that's actually the substance of the linked article – that the hallucinogenic effects are much overhyped and it's really just good old high-octane, pink-elephant drunkennses.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) It probably one of the worst tasting most hyped alcohol of all time. I've never actually had it because I really hate anise/locorice flavored booze. I admit being intrigued by the history and the fact that it was Oscar Wilde's drink of choice and all that, but I'm sure I'll be let down when I actually get around to trying it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Anyone ever see "Waiting"? I caught the tail end of it, and with the cast it looked like it might be funny. It's really good. Very reminiscent of Clerks to me in a lot of ways. Fair warning, however, after seeing the film you're going to have an incredible urge to show all your friends The Goat.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) I wish I had really thought about my list. I think I only submitted about 8 or 9 movies, and did not rank them. I would have added Back to School. I think it was Dangerfield's best. That would be an interesting list, comedian and their best work Belushi - Blues Brothers Chase - Vacation Martin - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Murray - What About Bob Williams - RV Pryor - Stir Crazy Oooh, I like this. I'll have to dissent from you on most of them, however. Belushi - Animal House Chase - Vacation (barely beating out Fletch) Martin - Man With Two Brains (narrowly beating out The Jerk) Murray - The Life Aquatic )(a flawed gem, but he was great as Zissou) Williams - Fisher King (narrowly beating out Good morning Viet Nam, and with an honorable mention to Toys, another flawed gem that I have a soft spot for) Pryor - Stir Crazy

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) Back of the video store with the movies that only get rented when all the others are taken . . . Actually, Back to School had some good laughs as well. I was surprised back to School didn't make the top 50. It just barely missed my top 20.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) What?

I'm thinking this will probably sideline him for a while: Carter to be tried for peace crimes.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 07:53 AM) Interesting. If there was a group of people who wanted to pledge allegiance to this country, you would say no if they wanted to do it in another language? Absolutely. And don't let him catch those bastard deaf people trying to recite the pledge in ASL or there will be trouble.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 27, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) Yeah, they are very interesting. Fangs that are much smaller than normal snakes, as well as additional smaller teeth behind the fangs. I watched a few specials on discovery and a few of the older Crocodile Hunter episodes regarding these snakes, and for all of their extremely toxic venom, they are not nearly as aggressive as some of their terrestrial counterparts. Almost to the point of being described as docile. That's true of most or them, but there are some more aggressive species as well. Even those don't have a particularly robust envenomation apparatus, though, so the "10x more venomous than a cobra" bit that always gets played up may be true of th toxin itself, but that doesn't equate to 10x as dangerous. Heck, the there are a couple of shrews with venom that is more toxic than some poisonous reptiles, but their envenomation apparatus is lousy.

Sea snakes are totally cool.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) I thought that it was illegal in the U.S. This is what the mysterious wikis say on the subject: A faux-absinthe liquor called Absente, made with southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum) instead of grande wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), is sold legally in the United States and does not contain grande wormwood. This was the first US approval referring to "absinthe" on the front label; the front label says "Absinthe Refined" but the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) classified the product as liqueur. In 2007, TTB relaxed the US absinthe ban, and approved several brands for sale.[61] These brands must pass TTB testing, which is performed by the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry method[62] and TTB considers a product to be thujone-free if the FDA’s test measures less than 10ppm (equal to 10mg/kg) thujone.[63] A US distillery also began producing and selling absinthe, the first US company to do so since 1912. I hate those things with a passion, but what a waste to work on legislation to ban them. I do have a huge pair of them things hanging off of my Mac. Now that is cool.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Young Frankenstein is funny no matter what, but it helps if you're familiar with the old Universal horror movies like Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, etc. And that's what puts it over the top for me and lets it beat out Blazing saddles. All the Mel Brooks trademark humor is there, but additionally there is this unbelievably great homage to all the great Universal films that shaped my childhood and made me a lifelong movie monster fan.

I just know the 'hottest cartoon babe' thread is locked now because I ragged on Rankin and Bass, isn't it?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I think the age of BS has something to do with its rank, especially when you look at all of the "new" movies on the list. I seriously consider it, by far, the greatest comedy of all time, and its not even close. The one liners, the double entres and the suble genius that is Mel Brooks really shown through in that movie. I think I have seen it at least 100 times over the years, and it never gets old. I quite like it too, but I think Young Frankenstein is Mel's high water mark.

I don't know if this counts because it was supposed to be a kids' film, but I don't think I've ever seen a worse movie than "SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2". Now I realize that Scott Baio has very limited job offers and he's going to take what he can, but I don't know how Jon Voight even lives with himself after helping to serve up this $hit sandwich.
