  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) If I was stupid enough to do something like that, my wife would not go out there on stage with me to discuss it. She'd be busy hacking it up and leaving it on the roadside somewhere. fixed. Or is that my wife only?
  2. Dang. Politicians just can't keep it in their pants. Sort of makes me see the prostitution cases he pursued and prosecuted in a different light I guess.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) My only question on battery powered cars is how they will work in the winter here. Leaving a car out all day in sub zero temperatures might limit that milage a bit here. Down in the south it should work fine all year long. I wonder about the winters, and the battery lifespan as well. I guess we will see how it performs when these things get released. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) How long does it take to recharge? Also, how would a car like that work for people in apartments/ condos? Run an extension cord out the window? I think i read 8-12 hours for recharging. And, yeah, people will have to be creative about getting curbside power. I have a decorative lamppost right next to my driveway that has an outlet that I tap into to light Christmas decorations, so that would become my charging station. Now. . . anybody got $30K they want to lend me?
  4. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) drooling over a Hynudai? One that gets 120 miles on less than $2.00? You bet I am.
  5. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) NY Governor Spitzer involved in a prostitution ring. Go to any news site for more info. hokey smokes. :o has he issued a statement yet?
  6. This. Is the Car. I Want. http://www.edmunds.com/advice/alternativef...59/article.html Battery-electric sedan due out at the end of the year, 80 mph max. highway speed, 120-mile range, sticker price of $30K. I'm drooling.
  7. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) lol Kap. That's a nice, clean site FlaSoxx, nice job. I have recently started learning ActionScript 3, which is basically Java's twin brother, and XML with Flash. It's pretty neat stuff, letting other's be able to add content to the site without much web knowledge. Anyways, thanks for the responses. I'm trying to learn XML now. I have a $100K science-education exhibit installation at my marine center that is a large spherical projection system called a Magic Planet (examples here) that I need to write XML for to customize exhibit content. It's not that it is overly difficult, it just seems clunky compared to Lingo and I don't have any time to put into it.
  8. I like it, but I'm not good enough at it to pull off an entire site with it. Plus, it seems too cumbersome for a full site of content-rich pages that can be more easily done in html. Here's a marine biotechnology site I wrote most of the content for and do the html housekeeping chores, but I had our real web guy do the Flash stuff and the javascript too. I like the Flash-based navigation interface, but it's not overboard. I blame Director for my inability to do any hardcore Flash development. I've done Director authoring (CD_ROM and museum kiosk-type deliverables)for more than 15 years, but I have been unable to grok Flash from a developer's standpoint. I hate the authoring interface and I think it's really counter-intuitive compared to Director. I'd have expected an easier jump between products both originally put out bu Macromedia, but I've been unsuccessful so far.

    Food Thread

    QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) The making of it is not banned. I believe that the importing it from Scotland is though. There's a Ireland/British Isles restaurant near me that sells it. I have haggis on a couple of ocassions and I quite like it. Then again, I like organ meat and blood sausages and such more than your average American consumer. matter of fact, I'm looking forward to a big bowl of Vietnamese pho noodle soup with tendon and tripe for dinner tonight. That's some good vittles right there. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) My daughter is happy that the ShamShake is back. I always make sure to get one while they're "in season". I like the orange one that tastes like a Dreamsicle, too. (Can't remember what they call it) That is the Arctic Orange shake. Along with the Shamrock Shake, that was the first seasonal shake McDonald's introduced. Does anybody else remember a good 10 year span when the Shamrock Shakes had no mint flavoring in them and they were just the plain vanilla shakes with green food coloring in them. It's true. They were very dark times indeed. Then again, the fries were a lot better because they were still using animal fat to cook them in.
  10. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Lost 2 pounds this week. Did really well for the second half of the week but I pigged out over the weekend and had to make up for thaat. On the bright side, I'm officially more than halfway to losing 40 pounds. Of course that last 20 is going to be tough.
  11. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) As I understand it, it was a state-wide decision to move up the primaries, not just the DNC. Many democrats were opposed to it, but were overruled by the republican majority. Yeah, it was decided by a bill passed by state legislature and signed by Gov. Crist back in May. It was an idiotic move and both the DNC and RNC told Florida exactly how they would be penalized if they leapfrogged the Feb 5th primaries. Dean and the DNC are doing the right thing here and Florida needs to learn how not to be the epicenter of every national election breakdown.
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) maybe your lips felt too chappy on his @ss? Or maybe I shouldn't have been wearing my "I love Lowe's" t-shirt today.
  13. I just met Bernie Marcus. :o He is touring the institute I work at and the first stop of the morning was my facility. Really a very nice guy, really down-to-earth. You'd bever guess he was the 239th richest person in America. Cheap b$stard didn't even leave a tip.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 02:01 AM) In a related story, Patrick Swayze - also of Roadhouse - confirmed that he is currently suffering from Pancreatic Cancer. The National Enquirer is reporting that he only has weeks to live. His publicist denies the severity of the illness, but he looks like hell in the story photo and pancreatic cancer is especially pernicious, hard to catch before it spreads, and almost impossible to hit pharmaceutically once it does.
  15. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) You lost your virginity to Gary Gygax? :bang
  16. Quick! Somebody get their Cleric to resurrect him!! Seriously, that's sad to hear. I have many things to thank Mr. Gygax for. First and foremost, he more than anybody else helped me hold on to my virginity for several years too long.
  17. QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I've been pushing for bad grammar banning for years. As opposed to the rest of the board who have just been pushing bad grammar here for years. I guess that's there prerogative and your not going to be able to change it.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) Guess my post at 8:59 was not clear. Yeah, I guess I missed that.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) Im sensing a splinter thread
  20. QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Was Farmer ever listenable? I just hope he makes him shut up. Aww, you just must not like 15-minute golf story tangents that have nothing to do with baseball. Congrats to Chris and welcome aboard, Steve!
  21. Wow, that is sad. I saw him at Mabel's in Champaign the month See the Light was released. He was amazing, warm, smiled throughout the show. 41 certainly is too young. And I didn't know the blindness was cancer-related either.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) Good week this time.. After two bad weeks (-1 and +3), I dropped 7 pounds this week. And aside from a few little things I am doing at home, I have not started the exercise part of my plan. That needs to happen soon. Excellent! Not me. I had a break-even week. Too much eating at the seafood festival and a couple of meals out and I'm the same as I was a week ago. Better than gaining I guess, but this weekend is our wedding anniversary so I know there will be some big eating this week too.
  23. Wynkoop is indeed quite a good little brewery. Their Scottish ale interpretation in particular I really like — a very hopped up and Americanized version along the lines of the equally excellent version from Bert Grant's. And yeah, this guy is a lucky fella.
