    Food Thread

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) So any tips on any unlikely foods that are really good protein sources? For example a typical day of food for me would be a breakfast of cereal, a bagel before I get to work (with nothing in it), a lunch consisting probably of some sort of foccacia / sandwich (it'll most likely have chicken in it), an apple / chocolate bar in the afternoon, some potato chips when I get home from work, dinner would probably be a Steak / Chicken / Fish with potatoes, carrots, beans, celery, lettuce and broccoli and Dessert would probably be some Ice - Cream or an Orange. (Waits for the you need to eat more posts..........). And not a whiff of Vegemite anywhere in there?!? Are you sure you're Australian?
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) Except that Huckabee would be destroying in a general. I doubt the mainline GOP wants Huckabee to be the nominee. I'm sure that is true, but the fractured modern Republican party is never going to be able to throw behind one candidate. The hawks are beind McCain and the social conservatives are going to largely back Huckabee. Who the majority of fiscal conservatives and traditional GOP fall in with is the interesting question. Unfortunately (from the Dem perspective), that's likely to be McCain because he's vastly more electable in the general election.

    Who is dieting?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I started at 275 pound like a couple weeks ago Oh yeah? Well. . . until recently I had several small moons orbiting me due to the gravitational pull generated by my massive fat ass and saggy man-boobs.

    Who is dieting?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) ok, that's fair. but what's the cutoff? I was at 307 when I started dieting back in July, now I'm down to 293 (slow but steady wins the race). since this thing isn't really a competition per se, but a tool to help everyone track together, I think that's fine. I'll make the necessary changes. Agreed. And with a spreadsheet set up, having different start dates for each Loser isn't hard. The relevant statistic of % weight loss over x number of days of dieting will be readily comparable regardless of when everybody started.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) The Senate Republicans successfully filibustered the Senate version of the Economic stimulus package last night, supposedly because it had the gall to add in about $44 billion or so over 2 years in changes like additional unemployment benefits and help with heating for the poor. There were also a few goodies stuck in to placate a few Republicans at the changes. The interesting thing about it? The final vote was 59-40 (Harry Reid changed his vote so that he could bring it back to the floor later if necessary so it tallied 58-41). Every one of the Presidential Candidates in the Senate returned to Washington for the vote. But, you may be asking...59+40 is 99. Who didn't vote? Was it the guy who had a stroke about a year and a half ago? Was Larry Craig in the bathroom? What happened? Turns out, it was that steely eyed missile man and straight talker, John McCain, who missed the vote. He flew back to Washington for the vote, and didn't vote. Seems he didn't want to risk being able to be tarred by a vote that was remotely controversial in the general election campaign. A true story of courage. One worthy of remembrance. Straight-Talk Express my pasty white as$$.

    Who is dieting?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) ok, the spreadsheet is ready to go. I just need WilliamTell's starting numbers. (I took everyone Feb 5th starting weight) I have it set up to measure until december, so if people reach their goal before then, that's fine. any questions or want to be added, let me know. good luck! Not that it much matters, but if you start everybody on Feb 5 that is going to make all of us folks who started their diets at New Years look like underperformers compared to those just starting. The first month is easy and weight just pretty much falls off of you. No that I'm a month in I'm lucky to lose 2-3 lbs/week as opposed to the 5-7 pounds I could loose the first couple weeks of the diet. Again, I'm not going to stress about it, but wanted to point out that inequality.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 04:31 AM) Perhaps the Monday weigh in my stop the weekend backslide. Ever think that Sunday morning guilt is something else? perhaps PA and I thinking of you I too kid because I care . . . My wife and I live for the weekend diet backslides. It's the carrot on the stick that makes you do good the rest of teh weekend. And as far as that other Sunday guilt. . . yes, early in my wayward youth I ran smack into that age-old Christian Conundrum – e.g., the thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) No, I love the fat elvis / thin elvis. We should not all be in lock step. I felt left out once y'all grabbed the sig. . . sorta' like being excluded from the cool kid lunch table in high school. . . . If the cool kids were all really fat, that is. I Kid, I Care, So There®

As far as updates, I think everybody updating on their own more or less weekly would be fine. Like I said earlier, tend to be really good on keeping to a diet Sunday night through Friday afternoon, but then I'll usually cheat and eat something more satisfying on the weekends. It's not the best, but the Sunday morning guilt usually straightens me out and I am good again through the next week. To accommodate my scheduled weekend lapses I do my weigh-ins on Friday morning. But I think everybody should do their own thing as far as reporting. In the beginning of the year, I was also putting in 50+ miles on the stationary bike every week, but work has gotten more hectic and it's been harder to find the time. Next week I'll try to eas back into that routine but only try for maybe half of that so I can fit it in.

QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) That place is currently Legend's, a sports bar, also my personal favorite bar on campus. Apparently they got the recipe from Deluxe and is still packed every friday for those sandwiches. I'm not a big fish guy, but every once and awhile, they're pretty glorious. Wow, I'm glad they're still making them. Makes it worth a trip back right there.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) hey sorry I'm stupid when it comes to computers, but how do I get that sig to be my sig? Click on "Edit Signature" in your "My Controls". Then put the following line into the edit field, and that will put PA's "Biggest Loser graphic into your sig. Below that in the same edit field you then just input your weight stats as plain text and then update the signature. It's easy once you try it.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Anyone have a good pepper and egg place downtown?? A pepper and egg sandwich with plenty of hot sauce on it is the best. QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) for all you former illini, I'm about to hit up murphy's for one of their amazing burgers and a logo glass. Mmmm, loved Murphy's burgers. Maybe the second best sandwich in Champaign when I was there, with the legendary Friday fried fish sandwiches from DeLuxe pool hall being the best. They were so good.

    Who is dieting?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) That reminds me... I've been tempted to do what Mr. Eye did, and put a goal, regimen and updated results in my sig, as a motivator. Anyone else willing to do that? OK, I'm in too. My death march diet progress is now on display for SoxTalkers everywhere.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) This was a disturbingly short rant. The ADHD manifesto? I posted this earlier in the video thread, but here it is again to make sure all the candidates have rattled Tex's cage real good.

  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) I'll interject this thought into this converstaion. There has been numerous occasions in my life, and several here on Soxtalk, that I have been the recipient of comments made to make me feel 'inferior' because I happen to believe in something that can't be scientifically proven to exist. And if I recall correctly, it was exactly those threads that eventually forced us to ban Carl Everett's close-minded ass. . .
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) I remember my first Presidential vote Tell us again Gramps. . . who was Teddy Roosevelt running against in that one?

  24. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Didn't read the article ... so I will never take PA's word for it again. You are still more than welcome to leave PA negative feedback on SoxTalk. More than a mere site feature, here at SoxTalk it's a tradition. I Kid, I Care, So There®
