  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) So we should stop supplying our own oil? We shouldn't fall for any bulls*** lines about the minimal footprint of extraction operations and the negligible impact it will have on surrounding natural systems. We shouldn't fall for scare tactics suggesting that opening ANWR and other protected areas up to drilling will actually even do anything to alleviate fuel shortages or high prices. If ANWR opened up today it wouldn't add anything to the energy supply line for a decade. And the government should absolutely require that the energy companies that win the contracts if such areas are opened (as inevitably many will be) place several billion dollars into escrow accounts BEFORE they begin operations to cover cleanup costs when human error results in spills.
  2. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) I'm just going to assume that you know that from babysitting a baby cousin, and that peopel in australia don't just sit around watchign the wiggles. True Fact: Personal hero aND Everglades champion Marjorie Stoneman Douglas said that in her last years (whe lived to be 107 or 108), her two daily pleasures were watching the Tellytubbies and drinking a dram of single malt scotch.
  3. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) SWEAT TEA? :puke :puke You don't go for the sweet tea, and your invitation to come visit the South is officially revoked. And you'd BETTER NOT say anything bad about grits.
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) My best friend, neighbor, guy I work next to for 8 hours a day, started a company with 2 of his other friends and some guy he met at a bar. The company is taking off, leaving me hanging here at work a bit. Is it wrong that I more or less hate him for having not even bothered to ask me if I wanted in on the opportunity to get in on the company? Like I said, I've known him forever, we built houses next to each other, we work right next to each other. I already told my wife that if he gets rich off it this thing, I will be done with him forever. Is that wrong? He knows many of my struggles, and he knows how much I hate my job. I would think I atleast deserved a "hey...this is what we are doing...do you want in?". Don't you? I ask this now because once again he is taking time off work for this new business. I think that is always a tough question with friends and family. So many ideas fall flat on their face instead of taking off, I'd hate bringing friends and family into something that tanked and cost them a bundle. I don't know if that is reflective of the current situation. But Tex is right, so many opportunities are niche opportunities that work well for one guy or a couple, but not for a larger group. Your buddy may also have been looking for partners who could either pony up some startup costs or survive going bust and thought best not to expose you to the risk. I dunno. Then again, maybe you've drunk waaay too much of his Delirium Tremens over the years and you've been scuttled.
  5. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) pshaw...what can YOU do??? Yeah Flaxx, as soon as that triple bock is here...I'm making me a few phone calls. You'll be buying yourself out of "playtime" with a bottle of The Beast. Good thing is that one drink and your assualter will be hammered off his ass. Kind of the anti-date rape beverage, huh?
  6. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) I'm telling.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) Oh PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE tell me that you have a copy of that you can forward to me??? But, wouldn't that be... wrong? P.S. Check your PM.
  8. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Ever heard Dinosaur Jr's version of it? I luuuuuv Dino. Yeah, now that you mention it i do recall that. I also liked Dinosaur Jr. a lot when they first came around. But NO VERSION of Love Cats is better than this cover! Yep, that's Paul Anka.
  9. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) I choose Lullaby. Love Cats
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) Crede has passed his powers on to Timo, just watch. Timo looks like Prince (Purple Rain Era) in that banner.
  11. Damn, there is a great right wing joke in there somewhere, but I can't put it together. :banghead It irks me that I find him so funny when I dislike his politics as much as I do. He was funnier before though, before he went so fully over the top.
  12. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) favorite post-beatles solo album? paul's 'ram' by a LONG shot. one of my top 3 albums of all time. Ram is excellent. That and Mac II are probably my favorite Paul albums (but damn the new one is quickly growing on me), and Speed of Sound is my favorite Wings release. The first solo Beatle album is still the best -- George's All Things Must Pass. Supposedly there was a plan to de Specter-ize it ala' Let it Be Naked, but I don't know if that ever hppened or will happen. Best solo John is hard because they were somewhat uneven, but I'll go with Imagine and Walls and Bridges as my personal favorites. Best solo Ringo is probably a later one, 1992's Time Takes Time. It's actually quite good, and some of the studio guys on it sound eerily Beatlesqe in their playing and singing. Check it out if you get a chance. Also love the Nashville sound from Beaucoups of Blues and appreciate the RINGO LP as it was the last release all four Beatles ever appeared on together (not counting Free as a Bird and Real Love).
  13. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) here here Ditto Ditto
  14. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Neither did the Beatles record "Silly Love Songs", "My Love", "The Girl is Mine", "Say, Say, Say", "Ebony and Ivory", I could go on but I'm feeling ill. I'll forgive him for quite a bit because he wrote "Magneto and Titanium Man"!
  15. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) I'd go with "Jet". No, not the AC/DC riff recyclers, the SONG. And I too got burnt out on the Beatles, although I LOVE "And Your Bird Can Sing" and always will. To those who got burned out of the Beatles, let me share my sickness with you. I had a conference this week in Naples Florida, four hours from home. I got in the car on Sunday and cued up the playlist "EMI 217" on my iPod. That's a playlist of all 217 officially released Beatles songs in chronological British release order, with the non-album single and EP releases placed between album track listings where they should be, etc. I pulled up to the hotel just as "I'm Only Sleeping (song #108 in the chronology) played out. Three days later, I get in the car to drive home and start by cueing up George's "Love You To", the next song on the Parlaphone/EMI version of Revolver, and drove home listening to the rest of thee catalog. I admit, I've been burned out from the studio recordings at times before as well, but then I do a HammerHead and listen to bootlegs and alternate versions for a while. If you got burned out listening to the later (Pepper and beyond) stuff, go and put the early early stuff on and it will blow you away how good they were from the get-go. I grew up an avowed late-era BeatleHead and thought all the Beatlemania screaming girl stuff was pretty corny. But now I honestly think I might like the early stuff best of all. My favorite Beatle song of the last year or so is the almost unknown "Ask Me Why" (note, not the same as "Tell Me Why"), from their very first British LP. Brilliant.
  16. Picked up the Sir Paul album in anticipation of seeing him on Saturday Listened to it once in the car on the way down to work (hour drive sucks). Very solid, very lyrical, really well produced, but a bit lacking in tempo changes and mood swings. Needs a few more listenings before I give a final grade, but I can see why it is getting pretty good reviews so far. Big Ed: I haven't had a chance to welcome you aboard, but how could you leave my hero Mr. Rundrgen off of the Rotating Ringo All Star roster?!?
  17. OK, Gooch, glad to see someone has some life left in them.
  18. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) And nothing would make ME more happy than to see their facial expressions when we ARE in the playoff comes October!!! Have faith! But that's just it. When we thought we had a chance of actually making some noise in the playoffs just a short time ago, the current prospect of limping in only to quietly go three-and-done in the first round seems really underwhelming.
  19. What the f*** happened to the ability of White Sox players to run the bases?!?
  20. He played a killer Grinch too!
  21. OK, it's a tangent but as a Karloff fan Kid, what do you think of the "Wurdelak" from the 1960s Mario Bava thing that came out here as "Black Sabbath"? I LOVED that film as a kid, even though my favorite of the three tales was the one with the dead old lady coming back to life and murdering the maid who stole her jewelery. And that's saying something because I was a vampire nut. I loved Karloff as the returned vampire trying to convince his young son to unlock the door and let him into the house. Both of those pieces were so perfectly moody and atmospheric to me as a kid. The other piece (with the woman being stalked on the telephone with the cut line) never did much for me, but I'd like to see them all again - mayb the original Italian if i can find it.
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Did you miss the green on those minor musicals? The Sound of Music is one of the greatest movies ever made. It's so uniquely special in the movie world. Yeah, I think megagreen was implied in his tongue-in-cheek statement. And for my money, West Side Story is the more culturally significant of the two.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) With people stranded and dying, the oil slicks are not a high priority. I'm as much of an environmental wacko as they come, and even I can see that. I agree, but that hasn't stopped Big Oil's lobbyists from exploiting this national tradegy to their own ends, both as justification for future price increases and as a reason to pursue more drilling in other areas. If anything, this should serve as strong evidence that no matter what promises the oil companies give that there will be no environmental impact from their operations, the reality of unforseen events (natural and manmade) is an entirely different matter.
