  1. Those are priceless. He could write a book full of those.
  2. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Embree's arm falls off onto Cashman's foot. That old commercial is an eternal joy.

    Ronald Reagan

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) As many of you know, my first daughter, Reagan, was named after our 40th President. I'm not the first, and probably not the last, to do this. There are A LOT of kids out there named after Reagan. I was trying to see if there is a web site out there devoted to these kids. I'm usually pretty good at Google searches like this, but have come up empty this time. Anyone have any suggestions? I've seen news stories about how everyone named John Smith or something average like that have a big get-together every year. So, I was wondering if there's anything like that for the "Reagans." Coincidentally, my daughter Bubba is named after Bill Clinton. Seriously, Reagan (Regan, etc,), is among my favorite girl names. And if one day your daughter decides she dislikes being named after a president you can tell her she was really named after that possessed kid in the Exorcist.
  6. Congratulations! Now the easy five are out of the way.
  7. More insights from the Bizzaro World.
  8. LA Times broke the story and yesterday's ABCNews' The Note did a pretty good summary wrap. Most amusing was the fact that just as the story was breaking there was a big faith-based support vigil in support of Roberts' nomination. As far as I'm concerned, the pro bono work is a plus on his side on my scorecard, though it could certainly be splinter his supporter base. But like the Note reported, it was not even known if Roberts' was senior partner enough to have turned down the pro bono case if the partners decided to take it on. Since that was ostensably THE gay rights case of the 90s though, it is an interesting development in the Roberts nomination process.
  9. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) I'd definitely call Al-Qaida a more hateful group. Fred Phelps group that wants the statue in Laramie Wyoming that says that "Matthew Shepherd got what he deserved." A more hateful group. Aryan Nation. A more hateful group. But maybe its just me. More hateful than Public Enemy #1 Al Franken? Surely you jest?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) You guys are only talking about Chickens because I am from Indiana... I am calling the ACLU on you all No worries. I'm just glad to see you survived.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) There's a LOT of *private* money being put into it, so it's not funded by our government. Sugar Daddy, anyone? PS, I'll agree that it's not enough. But to totally blame the Bush administration is not correct and misleading, which is my point. Sure there is some R&D, and no doubt Big Oil is putting resources into it to make sure they are players in the new energy economy. But with all the legitimate "China Lurks" concerns, including this week's news that China and the EU are going to cooperate on a rival technology to GPS that will be more accurate than current GPS, won't it be a hoot when the big breakthrough technologies come from them and not us?

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) Did we lose a few? Yes. In a tragic accident reportedly involving several live chickens, rubber gloves, pure canola oil, and an Oscar Gamble afro wig. No other details are available at the moment.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) :rolly That's completely ignorant. It wouldn't matter if Captain Dickhead were in the White House, people are busting their ass on this research. It's hard to bust your ass too much in unfunded research fields, Kap. The US is spending a token amount of money on alternative energy research. Edit: You beat me to it Balta.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) I've been waiting two days for your damned dancing numbers to change. They're great when they keep changing, but it's like they're dancing in your face when they stay the same. I agree.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Hydrogen vehicles are only practical environmentally or economically if you can come up with a renewable source of energy capable of supplying that much hydrogen. Completely true. And hopefully by 2010 we have a clearer view of the technology for renewable hydrogen. The problem you (correctly) pointed out with hydrogen – that it takes the burning of fossil fuels to produce it – is another problem being solved currently by using a stopgap technology, that of fossil fuel reformers. Electrolysis of water is obviously the way to go, versus splitting hydrogen off of fossil fuel hydrocarbons via reformer technology. But currently it still takes fossil fuel to produce the electricity to split water. You're right. The heart of the problem in arriving at a pure hydrogen economy is that the hydrogen needs to be derived frim purely renewabe resources and thet includes generating the electricity to split water. By 2010 hopefully we've got a plan for meeting the challenge.
  16. Hopefully the 25% number is not overly optimistic. By 2010, hopefully hybrid technology will be viewed as the stopgap green technology and we are by then actually beginning to see a hydrogen vehicle fleet.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Thank God we captured those guys "Dead or alive" as we promised. I'm pretty much thinking the "Bring it On!" rhetoric was not the best idea either.
  18. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Too bad. Should have flown him into a building Tell me how Iraq was involved in that again.
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) I hated them in the 80's. Same for Billy Ocean. I always did mean to get to listening to the Soul stuff they supposedly did. Maybe someday I will finally. "War Babies"...eh? And am I crazy, or do statements like: Make you NOT want to check out a band or performer? Yep, War Babies and Whole Oats are the two to give a spin. And they didn't supposedly do soul. They did some of the best blue-eyed Philly Soul of the day on those discs.
  20. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Have that many people seen Bad Santa? Or is it that the collest kid in school saw it, started using the word, and now everybody does? Yeah. sorry about that. B) Now, gimme your lunch money!
  21. New SD slogan under consideration for the rest of the year: Padres Baseball. Sucks So Good.
  22. Billy :puke Ocean... As for Hall and Oates, although they both grew vaginas during the 80s sellout megahit days, they certainly started out on the right track (and ended up geting back to their roots eventually). When they were at their best, only Todd Rundgren rivaled them as far as nailing that white boy Philly Soul sound. Not surprisingly, the Todd-produced Hall and Oates album War Babies was a first rate example if that style. But giving them props for most of the 80s drek they churned out.... I can't go for that - No can do.
