  1. Way to pitch out of trouble, Danny!!
  2. Texas and Minny tied 1-1
  3. I knew there was I reason I liked Gerut. (When he's not beating up on our pitchers that is...)
  4. Thanks for the confirmation that 1967 was the last time we were down to the wire. I just posted as much on the "Twins/Sox Duel" thread, based on what I have been told by my Elders and (mostly) Betters in Sox Fandom. I don't think there is anything wrong with emotional roller coastering... as long as every Sox loss or miscue doesn't lead to a pointless "This Team Sucks" of "Fire Jerry" tirade. Emotional roller coastering is a lot of what the long baseball season is all about. I'll be terribly disappointed if we don't take the division this year, but I'll take a meaningful season in contention over a meaningless season out of it by August every time even if it hurts many years. Go Sox!
  5. Sit Valentin so he doesn't get the at-bats needed to reach the contract clause to force resigning for next year? At the expense of what we might be able to do this year? That's nearly )not quite) as illogical an assertion as those of the posters who actually hope the Sox crash and burn just so Manuel will be fired. With 2 fewer errors than Tejada and the same number as Jeter (if I remember from another post I read), a lot of the possible valid criticism of Jose's SS just doesn't hold up this year. I'd like to see more offensive consistency, but I don't agree he's way overpaid. besides, I don't know waht better option we have at that price or less for next year.

I’ll hazard a response that the 1967 campaign is the one to rival this one, as far as being in it until the very end. 1967 was the year I was born, so unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps?) this is not personal recollection. A three-game sweep in the last series of the year against the very bad Washington Senators was what the sox needed to advance. Instead, the Senators swept the Sox, who finished with a record of 89-73. Like the 2003 team, the 1967 he team was apparently a bad home team, as they were 49-33 at home and 40-40 while playing on the road. The 1977 campaign is the heartbreak "almost made it" year I do remember. But of course we were really pretty much out of it the whole month of September, when the Royals kept playing insanely great ball and we did not.

  11. No, the out at third was what I was hoping for...
  12. 2 gonw ... the throw out woulda been nice...
  13. Alright - way to get out of the inning.
  14. Magglio is not getting it done tonight.
  15. The Brothers Alomar ROCK!!
  16. Not an inspiring start to this game. Let's get it back quick.
  17. It's a good move as long as we don't need dependable long relief from now til Sunday, or for the next four days after Sunday. I really think Danny can have a bright future in the pen.
  18. Too bad the Angels couldn't have helped us out here. Just means we have to beat Bosox tonight. I don't feel like sharing first place!
