I have heard the "Prior and Wood haven't lost back-to-back all year" crap so many times this last week. Time to start a new trend.

I'm one of the remaining 10... I wonder who the others are?

This may be the start of a beautiful night!

No GIDP's here Miguel!

Is Sammee's slip showing?

f*** Yeah!!! I'm listening to the radio feed and it's amazing how quiet the crowd got after that hit. Pierre is a dangerous leadoff hitter.

Here's to the Cubbie Collapse to end all Cubbie Collapses! If I was in town and could score tix I swear I'd go in a goat costume! I may not get home alive, but it might be worth it. Go Marlins! Go Home Cubs! :fthecubs :fthecubs

9-6 BoSox now, baby. Top 9 and yanks fans filing out of the park. With a Scrub meltdown tonight life will be very good!

I am glad that we raised the bar to Bartolo. At least they are trying. I agree. If Colon still walks you can't fault Sox management for giving it their best reasonable shot.

Backman called Gardenhire during Twins-Sox series
FlaSoxxJim replied to aboz56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is really upsetting. I wondered why he was completely off the radar in the search when he seemed to have the inside track just a month ago. Jerk. -
I have been told that is exactly what they are doing. They were looking to decrease the UD slope by as much as 10 degrees, according to my cousin who used to be the head of ballpark ops back in the mid-90s and still has friends in the organization. Last I had heard though, they didn't know if they were going to solve it by extending the first rows of the UD outward (the hard way) or pouring concrete to down in the lower rows to soften the grade. Now if only they would replace the seats with nice Old Comiskey green ones...

That may be a little melodramatic, but yeah, I wouldn't want to be the guy that kept the Sox out or the WS with 5 outs left to go. Now, the guy that kept the Scrubs out or the WS with 5 outs left to go... him I'll raise a glass to... Seriously, though, I have been trying like hell to do the math. To hear Scrub fans tell it, one potentially missed call of fan interferance and it adds 8 runs to your opponent's score. It's not like anything else went wrong for them that inning I guess. Marlins in 7!! "Cubbies is as Cubbies do... Cubbies is as Cubbies do... Cubbies is as Cubbies do... Cubbies is as Cubbies do..."

I soooo wish the Marlins hade pulled out the win in Game 3. Then winning one of these two, which is doable, is all they'd be looking for. I keep hoping Prior will finally turn in a subpar performance and the opposition can take advantage of it. Unlikely that he and Wood both crash and burn on consecutive nights though :fyou :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs

The day I root for the Cubs is the day everyone I know has my permission to shoot me.

That is good to hear, thanks Rex. Aaron's off my sh*t list for now then... until I find out he actually did mess up the shoulder again :-)

I have a feeling the Rowand story is true as well, and it bothers me immensely that he didn't learn anything after the last accident. It's one thing to be a competitive person in nature, but the guy is playing with his own livelihood and has not done enough in his short career to have a right to be this cavalier. If he needs off-season competition, here's a crazy idea... how about winter ball? I assume he doesn't play winter if he was out west last winter with time to drive his bike off cliffs. And it's not like he can't work on his game. Of course if he did aggravate the shoulder he'll probably kill us again this year and be up and down for half the season.
-
All I gotta say is it had better not be true. If it is, the team will go from the decent attendance of this year to a record-low season attendance overnight.

I wasn't suggesting locking up Gordon for more than 1 year. i was just lamenting the fact that we are in Closer Limbo now because of the 2-year deal Reinsdorf gave to the imposter/waste of skin masquerading as Billy Koch. I'm not necessarily bemoaning the deal, just wishing in hindsight like everyone else we hadn't done it. I wasn't as ready to run Foulke out of town as most people were in 2002, but I did consider the trade to be essentially a wash at the time. What did I know...?

From the interviews last week it sounded like Flash was willing to stay butwanted to know whathis role would be. he rightly wanst to know he will be making "closer money" of he's going to be used as the closer again. The free market sucks when you're a 'small market team' like the Sox with limited resources, but Gordon has a right to see what he's worth. Do you think Reinsdorf will ever give a relief pitcher a multi-year deal before ever throwing a single Spring Training pitch for us again?
-
You said it. I don't have a problem with the celebrating - it is certainly to be expected, but they better crash and burn against the Braves or teh city will be unbearable for Sox fans all winter. I was ticked off though, when the first part of the LAST WGN Sox broadcast of the year was pre-empted in favor of live reports outside the Urine Palace and inside the Cubby Bear. I know that's how it's gonna be with Cubs/Tribune/WGN, but it was kind of turning the blade to have to watch that when all I wanted to do was have a couple of beers and enjoy one last game on TV before the long, dark winter of our discontent sets in. Go Braves and Marlins! And Go Yankees until the Twinks are out! Then completely fall apart against whoever you face. Is that asking too much?

Really, I was more questioning the mental maturity sometimes displayed here. I have learned that chronological age has very little to do with the intelligence displayed in posts. There's a poster on the mlb Sox board that always posts insightful and well-studied comments, and is also quite respectful of all other posters and their viewpoints. When I found out this year he was just 15 I was blown away. I taught 15 and 16 year olds for a time, and I would have loved to have more people like him in my classes -- even though those are the students that really make you work hard to stay a step or two ahead of them :-) As for your WSI situation, you may have a valid beef. If your initial post did not contain personal attacks or patently offensive content then it is odd it would get you booted so quickly. I try hard to avoid board wars that devolve to the point of name-calling, but it seems that is where most posters (rightly) get themselves banned. I have enough tension in my daily life, and don't seek out more in the few online communities that serve as brief respite from reality. Now that the seasons over, of course, we'll all be spoiling for a good off-topic argument or two on various political/social topics as a diversion. And as long as these don't lapse into personal attack it's all good. Making naive, broadly generalized and infantile attacks, on the other hand, should be encouraged and I'll start... Stupid %#@!*& Cubs and stupid %&*#%@!* Cub Fans can *&%# my #$%@*!!! See, it's all about directingyour anger at the appropriate targets :-)

And HOW OLD is everyone here?!? I assume "TAKE ADVANTAGE of the chance to call a moderator gay" is actually just a poorly worded sentiment suggesting we should be very thankful that this forum allows members to freely express their opinions?? I hope this is the case. I have experienced WSI to also be very tolerant of different viewpoints, so long as they dont descend into personal attacks. Maybe they have decided to install language filters, but there are lots of different generations that use these sites and I can appreciate a decesion to go that way. We are asked every day by society to interact with people without resorting to vulgarity and most of us manage to do it. If you need to use profanity to get a point across, come here to do it. If you need to resort to personal attacks to do it then please don't. I guess we all have different ways of getting out our frustrations at the end of a disappointing season. If you all want to do it by seeing who you can piss off and how quickly, then go for it. A better idea might be to just not visit a site you don't like and let them suffer from your lack of thoughtful or insightful contributions. Me, I'm thankful that a handful of fans have taken enormous amounts of time to build free online Sox fan communities. Neither SoxNet or WSI has ever cost me a dime, and both have been informative and entertaining. I would miss them both if they went away. But, eventually the headaches and/or financial realities of keeping the sites going may cause that to happen.

Minority? Do gays count as "minority"? If so, cw should fax in an application. :fthecubs Please explain this comment to me, I don't follow. I'm trying hard not to take offense but it sounds derogatory to me.
