  1. These guys are playing like a completely defeated team.
  2. I guess Everett was making everyone else lok bad at the plate the last few games (yesterday notwithstanding) and so they figured they'd better get him out of the lineup.
  3. I was thinking that exact thought.
  4. HSC, Here's the "linky", but the original thread quote pretty much included everything about Backman... http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/191sd3.htm
  5. I am so glad he's gonna throw his hat in the race. Smart guy, and a military man who understands that military action should be a last resort and not a convenience to reshape the world to our vision. He seems to understand that you need to work with the rest of the world and not just invade or bully them. Too early for me to officially endorse anybody, but he will make the Democratic field a whole lot stronger and keep everyone working. And everyone who thinks "Liberal" is a dirty word and one that a candidate should distance himself from has forgotten that the nation was founded on the principles of a Liberal Democracy.
  6. I would like to see these guys use that 1st inning DP to take back the momentum of the series like the Twinks did against us with Frank's DP yesterday.
  7. DP - Yeah!! The game's on ESPN2 tonight too.
  8. Not enough people quote "A Clockwork Orange," in my opinion.
  9. The announcers seem kind of upbeat to me... No, wait... it's MLB TV and its the Twins broadcasters...
  10. If you don't have anything nice to say... Then again, not many Sox fans follow that rule :-) Damn, Paulie!
  11. Come on PK, tie it up with one swing... please!
  12. Let's get some damn runs back. Anyone else worried about Esteban for the rest of the year?
  13. I thought that was gone -- when did Guzmann learn to homer this season?
  14. It's not bad at all, and a great way to take in a different perspective once in a while. IT IS STEEP, though, so be prepared for a climb. Glad I'm not a vendor up there :-)
  15. Never can get enough of the ol' kudos. Alex (Malcolm MacDowell), A Clockwork Orange. Saw that the first time when I was about 12. Great film, but I never did fully recover.
  16. More like in another century! And of course it has not happened just yet.
  17. In general I agree with that philosophy, but Loaiza may have to be be the exception this year though. we all know where the team would be without his out-of-the-blue, totally expected year. He is the only reason we're still in it, and that should warrent MVP consideration.
  18. After last night I was sure I never wanted to see him pitch for the Sox again. After settleing down some over the last several hours, I feel exactly the same way. Glad he's gone, and I'll never figure out what beef he thought he had with the ump when he just flat out sucked.
  19. That's why the park open 90 minutes before game time. So you can take it in and then get to your seats for the game. Up in the untouchables section, you have no option of checking out the place before or after the game. Not a big issue for locals who take in a lot of ganmes, but it would be nice for national visitors to these big games to go home with something more positive to say about our (I believe) great ballpark besides "...at least I wasn't strip searched."
  20. Juggernaut does make valid points, and he tries to fight the goood fight. As an out-of-towner, I am lucky to make maybe four home games a year. Since the games are a rare treat, I'll shell out for the best seats available. So, the (unbelievably stupid) UD policy as far as the regular season goes has zero effect on me personally. But, the fact remains that instituting the policy and depriving fans of amennities that were intended for all parkgoers was an easy and short-sighted decision. I sat in the UD for the All-Star events, but luckily I had access to all levels by virtue of a cousin who was pitching BP to corporate-types during the festivities. But I would have been supremely pissed (and people were) as an visitor who paid good money to attend that week only to be told that they are not worthy enough to have a look around the park. Is that really the way to show off the improvements to the park, or to demonstrate just how "fan friendly" USCF really is? As has been stated here before, while a lot of you simply say "pay the extra $4 and sit in 100-Level", sometimes those seats are not available. The argument has been rightly made that folks who pay for UD shouldn't be allowed to sneak into 100-level seats. But no reasonable person here is suggesting this. It is merely being pointed out that the concourse and all its offerings were always intended to be enjoyed by all parkgoers. Sadly, it was just a whole lot easier to make this move rather than making the ushers actually do their job and keep people out of the seating sections they don't belong in. So here it is. The ALDS tix go on sale to the public Friday, and supposidly only 8-9K tickets will be available for each game. If you get tickets there is a good chance you will be in the UD. There, you will be treated like a convict in your own home ballpark, unable to go to the HOF store or the cool hat store, or even allowed to get a chicken chimichanga. Because of the stupid acts of four stupid drunks, you will all happily give up park features that were built for you to enjoy. All in all, it's a helluva way to market the team and the park on the national stage, possibly multiple times this year. These are the kinds of policies that should be implemented in a year we suck, so as not to draw attention to them. Te Sox don't suck, and neither do the greatest fans in baseball. But this policy does. It was not the only solution, merely the easy solution. End rant...
  21. Yes, I do think that is what we learned tonight. Fortunately it didn't cost us the game.
