  1. I seem to recall his velocity was in this range last April too. He wasn't hitting his spots last night - got up there in pitch count and made it a real problem for himself on there. He threw 30 pitches last night, right?
  2. The truth is that this is a decision that should be made by the patient or the patient's family with the input and assistance of their physicians providing treatment. Nobody else should get that decision.
  3. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:11 AM) I think it depends. Health care is a service oriented business right? If the service provider isn't getting paid and is taking on extreme costs, then it's their call. It's a sad situation, but that's reality. They shouldn't have an obligation or duty to continue to spend their own money and resources if they're not being compensated. If on the other hand she is paying for it (or has some insurance that pays for it) then they shouldn't have a say in whether the kid lives or dies. They should keep their mouths shut and continue to provide the service. So what you're saying is that a person who has a long odds treatment option that gives a slim chance of survival and recovery should be able to be legally euthanized by the hospital providing the treatment because that person is unable to pay for health costs? Cause that's what I'm reading. And hospitals absolutely have a legal obligation and duty to provide necessary lifesaving medical treatment.
  4. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) Maybe they do like Terrero equally (to BA)...it's not like there is a HUGE age difference between the two. I don't think he'll ever be able to hit more than .240 in the big leagues, but .240 with 15 homers and 60 RBI's would be fine, as long as he played defense the way we all know he's capable of playing. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/T/Luis-Terrero.shtml Terrero just turned 27, and both Luis and BA have the same concerns surrounding them. They're not hitting enough home runs, and neither are true stolen base threats either. If you don't have great speed or power (like Erstad at this point in his career), you have to make up for it by playing fundamentally sound baseball and hustling. Brian Anderson simply doesn't profile as a "small ball" type of player. And I'm not sure that he ever will. It will be interesting to see our starting OF next year, to say the least. Outside of Scotty Pods, who really does in this organization? We seem to pretend to be all about the small ball but last time I checked, we didn't win yesterday's game with ducksnorts and suicide squeezes.
  5. Jose looks good tonight (at least in the last inning)
  6. At least GM is starting to make cars that people seem to want again... design wise, they seem to be a little more resilient than Ford.
  7. I would say it has more to do with the design of the car. I was in a Ford Edge the other day? It feels underpowered and has a clunky design. That's a seriously Bold Move!

    Entourage

I don't have HBO - but I kinda like Jeremy Piven as an actor. Although, when he plays an asshole - its not a stretch. He's been banned from all Nobu restaurants because after acting like an ass to the wait staff, he left season one of Entourage on DVD as a tip, during a visit to the Aspen restaurant. He's also a Cubs fan btw.
  9. That's sad. It feels like the world of daily comic strips are slipping away these days.
  10. Mark St. John, guitarist on Kiss' "Animalize" album, and member of White Tiger dies of brain hemmorhage at 51. http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/0...html?eref=yahoo
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) On the other hand... Maybe that's what he did to earn that $40 mil or so in 3 months. (Turns out that the $28 mil, I think, does not include the $10 mil buyout they gave him for his old contract). You know what this story reminds me of? Frank Grimes knocking the acid out of Homer's hand. "You idiot! You almost drank a vial full of sulfuric acid!" "Boy, would my face have been red." Maybe this is why nobody buys a Ford, who puts an electrical outlet in a hydrogen tank?
  12. When did they do the league wide retirement of 42 anyway?
  13. I thought Felix Diaz did against the Cubs in 04.
  14. That's sort of the point. They can't move out of the state definitely, and probably not out of the county either.
  15. I hated Aeroplane when it first came out. I loved Holland 1939, but I didn't get the album until a few years later. It's now one of my favorite albums of the last 15 years. By the way - how did it take me so long to realize how amazing that Amy Winehouse CD is? And she's a hot mess too! I have my own Lohan to obsess over now! Hallelujah!
  16. Here's another black helicopter thought for you on this subject. Syria is credited with the back channel diplomacy that got the 15 UK sailors and marines sent back home this week. Notice how that was timed with Pelosi's visit?
  17. I do have a problem with legislating homelessness, which is basically what Dade County has done here. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally OK with the idea of giving child sex offenders life in prison - for example - but I'm not OK with the idea of not allowing them to live in an apartment or house once they have completed the punishment the government meted out for them.
  18. I would also expect to see Mitt's fundraising dry up after this quarter for the most part. Chances are he got the max he can get from most of the people in his camp who will donate money. McCain's numbers look better than they seem. A lot of small donors. That's a big plus actually.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) The interesting thing out of all of this was the amount of money raised by Romney, and the huge vault to the forefront that Edwards took after his wife's cancer announcement. Also I think McCain miscalculated that his name power would mean he didn't have to work as hard in the beginning. I always think that the second quarter fundraising total is the one that matters. With the exception of 2000, the nominee to be in an open primary hasn't led in fundraising in the first quarter since the 80s.
  20. Further sometimes Congressional delegations are used more to pass along messages as intermediaries from other states - rather than to pass along messages from our own. In this case, it looks as if Pelosi was asked to bring a message from Israel to Syria... and is otherwise there to probably get an earful from Syrian officials about US relations and buy a rug or two. This is a helpful thing for the country, IMHO, because since any kind of foreign involvement down there will probably be subject to Congressional approval, its nice to see that the leadership is taking the time to try and understand the political situation in the region.
  21. When I was a young child, my parents - both immigrants - only spoke to me in French and German. Fortunately, I only listened to the TV.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) I don't care about the missing extras - it just drives me nuts that whenever I get on a Delta plane, I my knees are buried in the seat in front of me. Which gets really interesting if they try to recline. If you look at the Seat Guru site, you can see their leg room measures are consistently an inch or two less than the other majors. That allows them to get another row of seats on the planes, which obviously creates more revenue opportunities. Though I dislike United, I do love the Economy Plus section. That extra 6 inches of room is great, and worth it, for the money (when you aren't automatically upgraded, you sometimes have the option to pay for it). According to SeatGuru, they average 31" pitch in Economy. So does American, United, Continental and Northwest. Many American planes only offer 30" pitch. Their seats are slightly narrower, however, 2 tenths of an inch.
