  1. You look to the past for lessons in how to plan the future. I specifically said, because he was acting in a different regime, his actions are somewhat forgivable. However, not entirely. Because Reagan never needed to do that. Its not like the insurgency would have been crushed without CIA training or arms funding, thats like saying that Iraq's insurgency is useless without Chinese or Russian fundage. My argument does hold water. I gave you a specific example of the United States making a short term decision and sacrificing a longer term one. In the case of Reagan, his administration could plead ignorance. But its not an ignorance that our current administration can afford. If you'd like another example, a good one would be the Clinton administration's insistence on keeping bases in Saudi Arabia open, despite the fact that it would have been a better idea politically to move them to Kuwait. Instead of rewarding those who funded the 9/11 plotters, we could have moved to reward those who owe us a huge favor.
  2. Heh. Missed that. I need to spend more time in front of the TV me thinks
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) I dont know if anything like that is actually going on but if you serve me up an example of something like that and I will shift focus and trash ( insert right wing organization ) for its own organization. The NRA - James Brady. Handgun Control.
  4. Actually I believe you said that the ACLU attacked the practice of religion. And I challenged you to come up with an actual case involving the ACLU where they tried to keep people from saying any. All anyone could come up with are stories that aren't true. I quickly came up with four concrete examples of the ACLU fighting on behalf of churches and religion. You came up with some "Oh, that one about the guy with the stuff and the things." Someone else came up with a case where a lawyer for the prosecution mentioned "I bet the ACLU would be pissed if this were Christian stuff." So, you let the perception be the reality. Too bad you can't let reality be reality.
  5. Division III Women's Ultimate Regional Semi-Finals. They're FANNNNNNNN tastic. Tonight on ESPN3
  6. Dammit! I must have the Hallmark Channel now! I actually kinda wanna see a screen shot. The same way I kinda wanted to have that porn with all puppets.
  7. "Horses are Food Institute" A division of the Human Fund.
  8. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) I have no idea how Bin Laden has anything to do with present day interest versus future interest. It's pretty freakin simple really. In the early 1980s, the Soviet Union was embroiled in Afghanistan and foreign fighters (Mujahadeen) were fueling a civil war against the Soviet occupiers. The Reagan administration, at the time, thought it best to keep the Soviet Union embroiled in Afghanistan so it funded these foreign fighters. Osama Bin Laden was one of these Mujahadeen and he stayed connected with the government throughout the 1980s. I believe he even received CIA training. Rather than considering the long term implications of funding and training a non-state "freedom fighting" group and the dangers that could exist should the group turned on itself, the Reagan administration decided to go ahead with the plan. You can't really fault Reagan, because he was acting in a bipolar atmosphere. And the perspective he had was skewed towards a long term goal of the defeat of the other major superpower. Unfortunately twenty years on, this lack of foresight came home to roost in New York City. I'm not saying that every threat and possible consequence can be assessed before an action, but some long term ideas about the overall goals of American national security should be considered in every foreign policy decision.
  9. The bones freak me out because they are so jagged and unlike chicken bones. I had horse a couple times. When my father was growing up piss poor in France it was the meat the poor people could afford. Now its a delicacy. It's actually quite good. And good for you too.
  10. I already told you I'm sorry. I didn't see your parents when I was doing that.
  11. This stuff really really bothers me. If the owners want to end salary inflation, they can just stop paying people so much more every contract. The NHL is not subject to anti-trust legislation because the teams are not in economic competition with each other.
  12. I think that when the Unitarians get to play their ad on CBS, Rolling Stone should get to run this ad.
  13. My Grandmother used to make it alot. It was my dad's favorite. I always preferred when she made horse.
  14. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Not in that particular quote. I won't defend Billy Graham across the board. I know he's a nutball! Couldnt resist.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) So your saying that its more important that a lower level person do their job well than a higher level person? The President should base his decisions on what is best for present day United States. Not what is best for the United States should it turn out that god is a christian. Not what is best for the United States should it turn out Bhudda is God, or any other omiscient ideal. To some how equate "believing in religion" with "better president", with out any form of proof or evidence of why, believing in religion will make some one a better president, is kind of silly. I mean, its not that hard to do, but atleast present an argument. I mean I wouldnt want you to be considered "slothful". SB Actually making decisions about present day US' best interests is exactly what I don't want my President to do. See Bin Laden for future reference. Presidents and leaders of our government should do what is overall best for the running of our country. Period.
  16. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) I still don't see a problem. I take it like this: He's saying "Thank You" for picking Presidents throughout history that are good decent men and not Hitlers. That's just my opinion on the quotes you've given me. I have no problem with these two men believing God has a hand in things like elections and freedom in general. I believe the same. Ronald Reagan believed the same. So are you saying that Billy Graham was calling John Kerry Hitlerlike?
  17. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

    Mmmmmbeeeeeer

What are you complaining about, you're ten miles from drunkenness on any given Sunday.
  19. You mean Bob Novak? They wouldn't know about it, because they wouldn't know where to ask for the information. That's the point. Reforming the CIA is pointless if the administration is going to supercede that with another intelligence arm that it informs noone about. Ever thought about how reporters find out about this stuff? They find out about it because people involved find it completely distasteful and against the true interest and character of the American democratic traditions that we've built up upon. It's not enough to just win this "war". It's only enough to win this "war" without sacrificing the values we were fighting for in the first place.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Chris Farley also, IIRC.. All our fans are dead. Capone, Farley, Candy. Now I'm depressed.
  21. Sorry, UMass, not Pitt. I remember he's from Pennsylvania. I don't do celebrity rumors dude. But I heard a juicy academic one about how he got his doctorate. Personally, I think now we know how Grimace lost those two extra arms.
  22. I worked two. And did about 30 hours a week extracurricular activities at the college radio station.
