QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) Wasn't the original START something that was formally ratified by the Senate? (START = Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) I believe you are correct.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) Just once I'd like to see him make the Republicans actually filibuster when they threaten to. Say what you want about Pelosi and not liking her (I don't) but her caucus is whipped into shape and she'd probably be a better Senate leader than Reid is. And although sometimes she is a political liability, when the president needs votes she gets them. That's why for all her faults, there's no push for a challenge to the position - she's good at working her caucus. The Senate is different, but a majority leader needs to have some balls.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:52 AM) Put me down for one of the people who wouldn't want her being the R candidate in 2012. I don't care if she'd likely lose in a landslide, the fact that the is part of the 50/50 that COULD win scares the s*** out of me. I'd rather have someone I'd hate and live with, than someone I'd be scared for my life with. Agreed, I'd rather have a choice I could live with.

What's the best seats you've ever had at the Cell?

New Park: Club Level in 2004 on 3rd base line for Cubs-Sox game. Old Park: Gold Box 5th row behind visitor's dugout a couple times. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) I think that Lyndon Johnson didn't just roll over in his grave, I think he must have soiled himself as well from this statement. I wish some Senators with balls would look to oust Reid from the leadership.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) Palin was the girl in Argentina? Interesting. No, I was thinking one of the women he crossed lines with but not the sex line.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) Yeah, every woman who gets an abortion needed it... and civil unions are sooooo much differant than marriage. Actually, civil unions are soooooo much different than marriage.

I don't mean to insinuate anything, but part of me was thinking when she announced her resignation, that this had something to do with Sanford in SC.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) This is true. Anyone thinking that Obama or the Dems wanted this, needs to think it through. They would have loved to run against Palin, who has zero appeal for independents outside of Alaska. Palin 2012=Mondale 1984

She said she could better affect positive change outside of the Governor's mansion.... Finally a Republican lawmaker who figured out that we're better off without them in office.

Mrs. Slocombe from Are You Being Served died today as well.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) I thought the law said "No individual should face workplace discrimination based on race." If it had been that simple, this would have never gone to court. There are a series of federal laws that a city has to navigate to hire and promote people. Basically, in this case, the city decided that the only way to not discriminate in some way is to promote nobody.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 12:40 AM) So............how's that whole revolution business coming along? If this entire ordeal was a bet to be placed at Vegas, a lot of people would have lost money. Look at Honduras, if politicians or people within the military wanted Ahmadinejad gone he'd be out of there. He obviously has a huge amount of support, and all those fist shaking Iranians Tweeting and posting "REVOLUTION!" on message boards from both Iran and the basements of their parents homes didn't change a damn thing. Alright, now the entire world knows the Iranian people aren't in support of Ahmadinejad and the Iranian government rigged the election. So? Is this what we're using to convince ourselves the death of Neda and the other 20+ protesters somehow served a larger purpose? Sounds like a terrible cause to die for. Watch, everything will go back to normal and we'll slowly be reading the "Why didn't the revolution succeed" articles. And please, don't give me lame excuses about how it succeeded because of points in the preceeding paragraph, or how (insert consequence) will occur several years down the line. Four more years of our buddy at the helm. Better get used to it. The revolution to overthrow the Shah took two years. This fight has been waged for 18 days. History doesn't always move as quick as CNN would like us to believe.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Seriously though, the beef on this was over what was "fair" rather than what the law said (and for the record, I thought it was fair, and I have no problem with the SCOTUS's ruling per se). But if a liberal does that, it's a horrible thing, activists out to destroy the Constitution (actual legitimate Constitutional basis of a decision notwithstanding). If a conservative does it, like what just happened, then it's justice being served and our immortal Constitution's values being upheld. The term "judicial activist" is Orwellian bulls***. I don't think there is anything wrong with responsible judicial activism. And this is responsible judicial activism, in my opinion. But this is absolutely a case of the Supreme Court creating policy instead of enforcing laws. And that's not necessarily always a bad thing either.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) "Conservative" viewpoints are always wrong. Always. I don't think that the ruling was necessarily wrong. Although it was an activist decision.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Sad, sad news. But, on the plus side. . . if the family acts now and buys one casket at regular price, the funeral home will send them a second casket absolutely free! Guaranteed to keep your loved one farm fresh?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) No surprise there. You know, for all the b****ing about the original decision, as a federal judge, Sotomayor didn't have the authority/right to make any other decision, regardless of whether she thought the law was fair or not. Activist judges making new law over decades of precedent! Oh wait, its a Democratic administration now? Sorry, I forgot for a second. Wholly appropriate decision to overturn every other court's decision in this case - and paring down liberal reverse racist discrimination policy!

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) RaTM toured last year, they arent forgotten. From what I am told they blew the roof off of Lollapalooza But I agree, we need a new album. I think Morello just wants the freedom to do crazy guitar and not be overshadowed by a leadsinger like he was in Audioslave. So much of that first album blew because it was the worst parts of Soundgarden with the best parts of RATM hidden in the background.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) A few of my carrier pigeons have been intercepted on occasion. Don't even get me started on how much data I've had compromised with semaphore flags.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) If you were to assume that this theory has even the remotest possibility of being true (which is a huge leap anyway)... wouldn't the smart political thing be to hold onto that until after Sanford is already nominated for Prez or VP, or is a major competitor for it? Eliminating him now HURTS Obama, doesn't help him, because it opens the door for someone else who might be clean. So the silly conspiracy theories on this make no sense, even if you look at it as being something he'd do. Actually the source has been revealed. Seems that Sanford's mistress had a significant other in Argentina who discovered the affair by snooping in her email... and "paid it forward."
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) Before it really started, sure. Because no one else would report it when he was really in the race. They just left it alone in the tabloids. That is kinda their point. It seems there were several occasions where the Globe, Enquirer et al were talking about a Bush family divorce. I think the Globe was talking about a potential Obama divorce last week, in fact. Frankly, I feel better about the press in my country when they arent taking their cues about where the priorities are from the supermarket checkout line.

I'm not one to usually crap all over the memory of the recently deceased but this 24/7 coverage is getting much. Two days ago he's a joke. Today nobody seems to remember he was a drug addicted accused kid toucher. And to make matters worse, it took what appears to be an overdose to rehabilitate his image here. I don't know exactly what that means, but I don't think its very good.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Savage's points aren't that crazy. First off, how did the newspaper get all the emails in the first place? Also, if you are a conspiracy theorist, Sanford takes a ton attention away from the cap and trade bill. Also, it seems Savage and Rush are pissed about all the media attention for Sanford and Ensign and the lack of it for Edwards. My guess? Mrs. Sanford (who discovered the affair by finding a letter around the same time) When the Edwards story broke, could someone please tell me what state he was the governor of?
