Cotts being replaced
I may have been wrong about burning the option, that may have already happened if he was on 40-man roster to start the season, if that was the case his option was used when sent down in the spring. If so, my bad.

I was an Air Force sarge 20 years ago tho.

Options
Once a player is put on the 40 man roster, you can only send him down to minors 3 different times (actually more than 3, you can do as many as you want in a season). So if Cotts was not sent back down this season, he would still have had 3 more full cracks at making the team, now he can only be sent back next year and year after. Now you would hope that would not be a big deal, but if he gets hurt next year and has to recover for a year, it makes it real tough for him to make the majors before he is out of options, and could allow another team to 'claim' him.

Cotts being replaced
Hate to waste an option when did not need to. Stupid, we did same thing with Ginter in 2000. Wish Stumm was going to Fall League instead of Cotts, if he went there and was solid in relief, he could maybe make the squad next season.

Sox Minor League All Stars
Yes, it is the job situation adding to the fire I believe, he denies it, but he is a tough guy and would never admit it, he means well, he will be fwine as Wanny always said. I knew you were teasing, just thought maybe I missed it when up in the great northern territory.

Cotts being replaced
Well, we wasted an option on him if its true we sent him down before the end of the month, tha was stupid.

Sox Minor League All Stars
With all the tension on the other board, one never knows. I think our buddy is going thru a tough time right now and he blew up at the other guys and it carried over to you and others. He will be better after he gets back home I bet. :-)

Rex, had they already been posted? Sorry if so...

Sox Minor League All Stars
Int. League, Gload at 1B, and Miles voted Rookie of the Year Southern League, Alvarez as utility man and Cotts for LHP, interesting that Humberto Quintero was C on the All Star team Carolina League, Yan at 2B Sally League, no one made it Pioneer League, Bounds at 1B and Nanita in the OF, MVP of league and all star Catcher was Lou Palmisano, a Sox draftee out of HS in 2001 in 21st round I think. Damn. Appy League, Valido for SS and Chris Young in OF.

Brian West quits to play college FB
My guess is Cerbaho figures we would not miss West, so decided to not say anything, that would be my guess to what was going on. Since Bullard and West are friends probably best we keep that stuff out of the threads, but West did go downhill the past 2 years. Lucky chance I saw him on roster Rex, just a lucky chance.

Brian West quits to play college FB
Yes, Trajan Langdon for Duke, the kid from Alaska earned money playing minor leagues for Padres, and still played bball at Duke. Many others have done this, he could not play baseball for LSU, but that would be mute point anyway since they have a good team. He truly disappointed after a solid start a couple years ago.
-
Brian West quits to play college FB
He is in Baton Rouge, on LSU roster as a LB. He has left the Barons, guess will have to find out if for sure or not quitting, but rumor is he has to have Tommy John surgery and would be out all year next year anyway.

The best farm system?
Tough to answer. Angels have many guys in top prospects right now. Braves are always good. Cubs have a good system. Sox will probably be rated middle of the pack or lower by Baseball America this year, but I like what we have.

3 Great Falls players going back to college
Correct, I think it is a nice gesture by Sox to let them go finish up school.

3 Great Falls players going back to college
The Great Falls White Sox are trying to earn a playoff berth, and the team's parent organization is doing what it can to aid the pennant chase. The White Sox organization has sent four players from its Single-A affiliate in Bristol to Great Falls, to compensate for the loss of three players who are headed back to college. Manager Chris Cron's Great Falls club has lost college-bound outfielder Clinton King and will be saying goodbye to pitcher Fraser Dizard and catcher Matt Deuchler this week, who are also heading back to school to finish up their degrees. The new Great Falls players, including outfielders Ryan Sweeney and Chris Young, and pitchers Sony Suarez and Sean Thompson, will be in uniform tonight when the White Sox open a six-game homestand with a 7 p.m. game against the Missoula Osprey. Sweeney, a second-round pick in the 2003 draft out of Xavier High in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, batted .313 with 3 doubles and 2 homers in 67 at-bats in Bristol. Sweeney, the 52nd overall pick in the recent draft, signed for a reported bonus of $785,000. Young, 19, a 16th-round selection in the 2001 draft, was hitting .290 with 18 doubles, 3 triples, 7 homers and 28 RBI in 238 at-bats in Bristol. Suarez, a right-hander who has been used as both a starter and reliever this year, was 2-4 with 3.70 ERA and one save in Bristol. Suarez was signed as a free agent in 1999 by the Pirates, who released him last winter. The Sox then signed him. Thompson, who played for Great Falls earlier this summer and was 1-0 with 7.77 ERA, was 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in Bristol. King, a third-round pick in the 2003 draft out of Southern Miss, is returning to the Hattiesburgh, Miss., school. He hit .305 with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 3 homers and 29 RBI in 223 at-bats for Great Falls this summer. Dizard, a 10th-round selection in the recent draft out of Southern California, is heading back to USC after posting a 3-0 record and 4.02 ERA in 40.1 innings of work in Great Falls And Duechler, a 40th-round pick in the 2003 draft out of James Madison, is headed back to the Harrisonburg, Va., campus after batting .297 with 4 doubles, 2 homers and 9 RBI in 74 at-bats here. Great Falls currently leads the Pioneer League's Northern Division by a game over the Helena Brewers. If the Sox hang on and win the second-title title in the North, they will advance to a best-of-three playoff series against the first-half champion Brewers. Great Falls could also qualify for the playoffs if Helena wins the second-half title, by virtue of having a better overall record than both the Billings Mustangs and Missoula Osprey. Great Falls is currently 36-29 overall this year, while Billings is 33-32 and Missoula is 32-33. Pitching matchups for the Missoula series are as follows: Tonight, White Sox lefty Boone Logan (3-1, 7.04) vs. Missoula's Donald Julio (3-2, 6.62); Wednesday, White Sox righty Sean Tracey (7-5, 4.17) vs. Missoula's Ben Krantz (0-1, 4.54), and Thursday, White Sox TBA vs. Missoula's Angel Rocha (4-7, 3.06).

Yes, King has been steady after a slow start, up to .305. Sweeney has been doing well the last week. Anderson's injury worries me.

Tisch was drafted in 2001, signed as draft and follow in 2002, and started well at Bristol this season, do not think he did too well in 2002 at Arizona, cannot recall.

Leaving him at Birm allows him to be in a pennant race too. Plus I am sure Rex paid KW big bucks to leave Reed at Birm for his pleasure.

Sat. Minor boxes
7 IP, 6 hits, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB and 4 Ks. Purvis threw well for W/S, Dizard and Moat pitched will in win for Great Falls, Tisch, promoted to Kanny from Bristol, pitched ok, nice pitching all around last night as our teams went 3-3. Would put boxes here, but they do not format anymore.

Sat. Minor boxes
Charlotte lost 3-2, Adkins with loss in relief of Diaz, who cannot get past 4-5 innings. Birm won 8-3 over West Tenn, Pacheco now 12-2, save for Smith. Win-Salem lost 1-0, 4 hitters for both teams, I think Purvis was on the bump.
