WTP from Mazara. I thought he got that one off the bat.

3 k and tons of loud outs though.

Very true. With higher expectations comes more scrutiny. I need to be less of this guy: With this thing:

That's why I leaned on carry vs. Spin rate. Cease and Lopez have similar carry on their fastballs. But like I said Scherzer has similar carry to those guys and he gets whiffs, so wtf do I know.

I know this already, but the results are similar. It's baffling and challenging my reliance on data.

Fair enough. He had 1 awful start, 3 good ones and one meh one so far.

What's Giolito's ERA/WHIP if you take out opening day? Hold on I'll do the math.

That's fair man. I'm being impatient because they're supposed to win. There aren't a lot of finished products on this team.

If we're being honest with ourselves, you're right. If I'd compare Giolito to anyone it's Bauer. Has the ability to be dominant but inconsistent from season to season. Could get Cy Young votes one year and average the next, then gets Cy young votes again.

Ok... I'll stfu about wanting to trade Cease but there's way too much hard contact against him and he doesn't miss enough bats.

8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
If Cease has a good year it's reminding me of Lopez's 2018.
-
8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
Dude idk what it is....he's not fooling anyone and he gives up a ton of hard contact. If you want to say that's ridiculous that's fine, but I know what my eyes are telling me.

8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
Even then, he throws hard enough that he theoretically should be missing bats anyway in the zone. Everything is being scalded. He's not fooling anyone.

Yes I do....wtf happened?
-
8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
I don't. I watch hitters react to Cease's pitches and they're all over them. Lopez part deux.

Same reason Giolito ditched his for a slider. Can't throw it for a strike.

I do think Kopech will be good if he doesn't get injured or end up with diminished stuff.

This is what I'm concerned about. Out of all of the young-ish pitchers the Sox have the only one I'm reasonably confident about being a decent MLB pitcher is Giolito, and he's already 26 so he's not that young anymore and he only has 3 years of control left.

I thought he was worth the gamble until I saw him play everyday. Guy sucks.

JFC Mazara... Gotta be E9.

8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
There's something about a pitcher's fastball that causes hitters to be late. Cease and Lopez don't have it. Apparently Scherzer has below average carry but still gets whiffs. Hitters reaction matters more than anything else. They're all over Cease more often than not.
-
8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
That was a 99mph fastball at the top of the zone and that guy scalded it. There are some pitchers that throw hard but hitters make a ton of hard contact against their fastballs anyway. Cease is one of them. Lopez is another.

I hope everyone is prepared for at least another half season of Mazara.- Official NHL COVID season thread
That's perfectly fair. No issues with this post. - 8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
