Official 2018-19 NFL Thread

Fair enough. I don't believe that they are either though. I'll believe they'll get to even 8-8 again when they finish a season with 8 or more wins. I believe the Bears have a decent QB when they get a Pro Bowl nod or two. Until then, they're bad. I think it is more reasonable to go into a Bears season with zero expectations rather than any whatsoever. They have to earn it. -

There has been a lot of failure over my lifetime as a Bears fan. I am too young to remember when Ditka and the Bears were good. My memory goes back to watching Wanne's Bears as a kid. There has been just a ton of suck. I enjoy football, and the Bears, but have zero faith they will ever figure it out. I used to have a saying, that the Bears are just grown up Cubs. Hopefully the Bears will grow up and become a real franchise in their sport like the Cubs eventually did. -

This. I'd imagine teams are going to run the quick throw offense until the Bears prove they can beat it. Fangio needs to coach up the DBs on jumping routes and being in position to tackle receivers immediately after they catch the ball. I have zero problems with Nagy. I have a lot of problems with how easily the Bears defense can be beat by quick throws and hurry up offenses. Giving up two 70+ yd TDs on bubble screens through 5 weeks is inexcusable at the NFL level. Just everyone leave me alone about some other stuff. I'll take my break if you guys want me to, but I feel like I have some good stuff to add to the discussion about football. I don't appreciate being attacked when I say the Bears suck. I will believe it when I see it, that is all. Until then, I will continue to believe they suck. -

The fact that this post was even made is telling me the amount of football stupid I'm dealing with in this thread. I shouldn't even have to respond to it. If nobody understands the offensive concepts of quick screens, hot reads, etc and why they were devised in the first place then I'm just going to stick to baseball here. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your souls. -

I wasn't intending to post today, but I already screwed that up with the Howard trade rumor post. If you guys want me to take a 2 week vacation, I still will. See you in 2 weeks after the game. Later guys. On the bright side, Trubisky looks decent. Everyone makes a fuck up every now and then and we can't expect him to be great right away. He's young. -

Quick passes nullify the pass rush and gas the defenders. Secondary can't tackle. Dont give pass rushers the opportunity to get to the QB. -

There is no guarantee they beat the Jets, Packers or Detroit at all. -

I don't think it is that bad. They'll beat the Bills, and Niners and probably split with the Lions, but I struggle finding a win after that. Thay have a chance vs the Jets. Otherwise, you can rack up the Ls. -

Honestly, I'm still not sure they don't win 7 games. Their schedule is brutal the remainder of the season. The Dolphins and Packers now have 2 games of tape on how to beat the Bears defense. -

The Bears continue to be the only team in the NFL that has no clue how to gain 5+ yards on a bubble screen. Every coaching staff since Wanne had that play, and everyone fails miserably. -

This is exactly what McCarthy/Rodgers did in that comeback week 1. I wondered what was taking teams so long to do that. It completely neuters the pass rush. The Bears are going to have to figure out the quick pass defense quickly or they're going to start getting torched. This is absolutely being schemed. -
That has to do with having the ability to swing a longer bat. Longer bat=more power. Simple physics. you're putting more force on the ball with a longer bat. Have you ever tried to change a tire, and had a hard time getting the lug nuts off? Simple, use a longer lug wrench. Same principle. Also, think about how the body twists when swinging a bat or a golf club. Honestly, torque is the physics concept that should be used when talking about baseball or golf. The baseball swing and golf swing are more about release of energy onto ball than anything else. Typically, I don't know why anyone has an open stance anymore especially in the power happy analytics age. A closed stance is much more conducive to power generation. For you golfers out there, ever wonder why your driver is the longest club and your wedges are your shortest? Same principle.

Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"

Because if the luxury tax is so punitive, then isn't it a de facto hard cap? Wasn't that the point? -

Stuff like this happens all of the time in the NHL. Just ask Stan Bowman. He gave away Teuvo Teravainen to rid himself of one year of Bryan Bickell. -

It could be huge for them to avoid the luxury tax. A Cub fan friend of mine actually came up with that idea. -

If the Cubs were willing to give away either Happ or Schwarber to take on Chatwood's contract, would you consider it? -
What about a one year with a team option? I think it is likely that injury prone vets or those coming off bad years are going to be taking one year deals with a team option.

As long as he goes to hang in Charlotte once Eloy comes up, he can stay.
