  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) My results: There will be no change to your insurance coverage. You will not pay any additional taxes. OMG!!! SOCIALISM!! COMMUNISM!! And you forgot the deficit will come down.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Of course...if we really wanted to make a difference in people's lifestyles, there are other levers we could push. For example, we could stop dumping tens of billions of dollars a year into corn subsidy programs. Don't leave out the sugar cane farmers and the milking cow farmers too!
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Well, I now have health insurance until 26. No need to get a job then...i'll just collect unemployment and live like a king. Welcome to my utopia Hey off the subject here, I believe you said you involved in the census, right. Quick question. Have you or has anyone else here been called for a telephone interview that basically repeats what the 26 page form entails. Just wondering.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) It must've been to save face at that point because he was getting increasingly irrelevant. The EO is unenforceable. Stupak is more dense than I thought. BO rolled you, fool. Well played Mr. President.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) yep, to save a mother's life. ALWAYS? .......
  6. Is BO going to implement an Executive Order on Abortion?..........If so, why? if there is no funding for abortion in the Senate Bill?...........
  7. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. Public Citizen sued over it. Nancy Pelosi and Louise Slaughter actually joined in. The lawsuit determined that a deem and pass rule is constitutional and acceptable. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Doh! QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 05:13 AM) Wow, owned. An "A" for sarcasm, an"F" for answering the question. Was there TWO bills invovled with the House's passage in 2005?
  8. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) Deem and pass is another way to vote on legislation. It represents a vote on the legislation. It's also been around for about 80 years. Between 1994 and 2007, when Republicans held majorities in the house and senate, the Republican speaker of the house used the rule 172 times to pass legislation. Funny, I didn't see you b**** pissing and moaning about it then. If the self-executing rule didn't mean a vote, why is Kucinich's flip to a Yes vote such a big deal? Why is the house and the President spending weeks trying to whip yes votes on the bill? If you don't support the bill, you would vote against the self-executing rule (the deem and pass, or the Slaughter rule - because clearly the current Congresswoman made up the 80 year old rule). Just like if you want to stop a bill in the Senate, you call for cloture. Except the difference is, majority rule applies in a self-executing rule vote as well as in a vote on the actual bill itself. So, yes I support the Self-Executing Rule, because it still requires a vote - its about how the vote is phrased and how quickly the vote is taken. It can be a useful legislative tool when used properly, like in the case of giving the final vote to pass a bill that has been debated for nearly 12 months. And the current Speaker of the House is using it properly, if they even choose that route to pass it. But it's bulls*** you'll claim, because that's what the Fox News talking points that you constantly parrot tell you to say. Please cite an example where the GOP used the "Gephardt Rule" to pass two bills with one vote.
  9. Obama yesterday: You know, the most insidious argument they're making is the idea that somehow this would hurt Medicare. I know we've got some seniors here with us today — I couldn't tell; you guys look great. (Laughter.) I wouldn't have guessed. But I want to tell you directly: This proposal adds almost a decade of solvency to Medicare Quick question: How do you cut 500 billion from Medicare and extend its life by a decade without hurting benefits to seniors? Seems to me the Pres is trying to bulls*** a country of bulls***ters.........
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) The Federal Reserve's job according to Wikipedia is: I think you could make a legitimate argument that taking a loss on those securities falls under any of those. Yeah, there's likely some corruption built in that we need to correct, don't bother lecturing me about that, i'll be the first to admit it. I want to know a priori why I should worry if the Fed loses money. I think you could argue only the first two apply.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Well let's break this down. Tell me what you think the Slaughter Solution actually is - because honestly, I've seen like four or more different interperetations so far, just in the press. My impression is that it is basically a back door reconciliation, sort of a reverse bill method. In which case, both chambers have voted on the same measure. How is that unconstitutional? Here is a take from the left: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=...IBG1qSS-GLTGCKA I don't know what the deal is here.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 07:42 AM) Kap, you really have gone off the deep end here. Not with being frustrated with this particular bill, which some people indeed don't want. But with this absurd idea that the Dems are somehow being less than legal or somehow worse than the GOP, when various versions of this bill have already had majority support that was knocked down by GOP Filibusters. Here it is Kap. One, you are a huge supporter of the Republicans, so stop acting like you are not. Two, you are in complete denial of the fact that they TRIED to pass this health care bill "the right way", and couldn't. Three, your first post above is Rush Limbaugh territory - its THAT over the top ridiculous. I don't even like this particular health care solution, as I've said before - but you have personally laid waste to any sort of reasonable discussion on the matter with these kids of posts. So do you think the "Slaughter Solution" is constitutional? They will not have voted on the same bill as the Senate, right? Tell me if I am missing something else?
  13. As long as it doesn't cost me another f***ing surcharge on my phone bill.
  14. Anyone else here get the feeling that this will wind up in the Supreme Court?
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) What about the opportunity cost, which damages the non-entitlement portion of the population. Hundreds of billions in loans, given to an entitled few, is an explicit advantage at any time. I will gladly take 52 billion from the government and will pay it back with interest within a year. What about all those toxic assets we had to buy? Those paid back? I hope so, I doubt they are. The bailout just rewarded risky investment behavior and it encourages more. How big will the next meltdown be? You mean the toxic assets on the fed's balance sheet that they do NOT want to talk about. The one's they hope to hold until they deem them above water. What a joke...
  16. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) strong retail sales numbers today net net up .10 with last months revisions.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) You aren't even worth the electric it takes to read this anymore. ^^^^^^^And what SSK said earlier..this is monotonous and redundant....
  18. So we get a healthcare bill with student loan rider in it. And we get a healthcare bill with NO doc fix because it has nothing to do with healthcare? f***ing Brilliant....Kudos to Congress.....LOL...Glad we passed paygo.....Oh wait dems will vote to rescind paygo in 3....2...1.....
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) So, where then are your complaints about the efforts by my current Senators to make sure that payday loans are exempted from any new financial regulation bill because Senator Corker happens to have the billionaire "Check into Cash" guy in his state? Or the complaints about how that same Senator is fighting to make sure that Fedex keeps a special designation in the law that prevents their workforce from unionizing? Those are the 2 I happen to know because I get to vote against that guy now. There are 532 different versions of that happening right now. Some FEDEX workers are union. You mean the entire workforce should be able to unionize, no?
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Daley today announced that a controversial plan to overhaul the city's pension plans is going to be unveiled. He apparently hired some high end financial industry folks to study options to come up with something more viable, and wants to go that route. I'm no big fan of Daley's, but I will say that he's been doing some pretty shrewd things financially in the last year or two. Agree. After giving the unions a ten year contract guarantee. He sees the writing on the wall because no 2016 games.
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Why all the sudden is the Census this super evil communist plot. I don't remember anyone complaining about it in years past. Not complaining. Already filled out and returned.
  22. http://republicanleader.house.gov/blog/?p=796 If true. Could get interesting.
  23. You do not have to reply to the Census. But what they do is ask your neighbors about your household.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Unfortunately, every time someone listens to you, we spend on average $25 in tax dollars to send a person to ask them to fill it out in person Whom they can tell NO to in person.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 07:34 AM) Why does Tom Delay keep getting airtime lately? No seriously, why? I was about to make a liberal media joke but there is nothing funny about this imo - Delay has nothing to contribute to anything except dumbass partisan rants and various lies. Also, I'm not sure why Dick and Liz (especially Liz) Cheney get more coverage than the current VP. I mean I can see Gingrich since he at least actually has something to say but these other guys? WTF. Stop watching MSNBC.
