  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Well I'm glad I went long SEF then. But I still don't see the markets selling off as intensely as you project. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) Barring a serious, probably international event, there's no reason for a huge selloff to really start until the Fed starts yanking out its supports. Its inflated the stock market as a bubble it can use to push money outwards, in the hopes that consumers and unemployment can start to rebound before that bursts. News events break with the mkts not the other way around; Whenever there is a sqaureout/trend change in the mkt, you will see a corresponding news event that follows. I am talking purely technichal here. The Fed has nothing to do with this pullback. We should close today in the low 1130's. But if we break 1130.38 on SPX and there is no bounce, we could fall to 1119.75 on futures. FWIW....
  2. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) Market closes above 10,700 Mkt is beginning the selloff. Remember mkts do not selloff on bad news. And the catalyst for this selloff will be the bank earnings that started today. Time/price are squaring out in the mkt, look for trend change. A close back below 1130 today on cash should lead to a test of the December lows. If that does not hold it will be a quick drop to the low 1000's.
  3. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) so you are in agreement with the Obama Administrations Pay Caps on highly compensated bankers? Absolutely not. What do they expect these banks to do with the free money they are giving them? Here, borrow for nothing lever it up and make huge profits, but do not even think about paying your employees. Stop the free money to these banks!!!!!Don't b**** when they make obscene profits and pay their employees. That argument is stale. Oh and when is the special tax on GM going to be enacted like the bank tax to recover TARP?..........Waits for years......Gets no response.........f***ing idiots....
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) What exactly was the backstop for GE? I am not familiar with the details of that one. The gov't gurananteed their short term commercial paper so they could continue as a going business.
  5. Stratfor reporting White House and NSC may come out with new AQ threat agiainst America. Report titled "Al Qaeda Attack On American Soil Possible."....FWIW
  6. Big picture here: The Assn of American Railroads December 09' carload reportis now out...and the sequentials stunk in all segments, (Chemical,Industrial,etc..) not as rosy as it seems out there.
  7. http://biggovernment.com/2010/01/13/coakle...-to-the-ground/ Commit assault in front of the attorney general running for senate and what happens?......
  8. More transparency from the most transparent administration evah: And not a conservastive source either. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-hamsher...d_b_421549.html
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) Like I said in the other thread, I quit. There is no point. Watch this math produce a decline in the unemployment rate: With the birth/death revision and the benchmark revision both expected to be a huge negative number, i.e. unemployment closer to 11%, how do you hide the decline, sorry too good to pass up? You reduce the number of people seeking jobs. And what do you get= a smaller rise in unemployment, or better yet, a decilne in the unemployment rate.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Quite frankly, yeah, another jobs bill to fix what was gutted from the stimulus would be a nice addition. Just create another gov't agency. Walla, 40,000 good paying union jobs, and a bonus comes with it....40,000 democratic votes in perpetuity.
  11. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) because all things considered, $6 million is chump change. Hell, Peavy will get that for 10 starts this year. Way to miss the point. Evil wallstreet bankers should be taxed and hung. Pseudo gov't institutions , ,,,ok to pay outrageous bonuses for f***ing up the entire mortgage mkt.
  12. David Gergen, moderator of the Brown Coakley debate last night in MA: The debate was moderated by CNN's David Gergen. Near the end of the debate, he had two questions for Brown and Coakley each. After putting Brown on the spot over Roe v. Wade and "climate change," Gergen turned to the Democrat with his hardest hitting questions of the night. "Do you think it was right to insist on three people being at the debate?" Gergen asked Coakley. Yes, she did. He followed up with this doozy: "As you look back on the campaign, do you have any second thoughts on how the campaign has unfolded?" "Absolutely not," she said.
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) It's not the Kennedy seat, its the people's seat! Great line. Nice!!!! I read an e-mail someone sent in to a blogger that said the unions were paying people $50 to hold a Coakley sign. And the kicker is the union guy said he is voting for Brown. This will be gigantic if Brown wins. And how will the press spin the loss if it happens?
  14. Why are the airwaves silent about the $6 million bonuses paid out to the current heads of Fannie and Freddie? ......CASH!!!!
  15. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) but that's the problem. people think that govt should act like individuals. nothing could be further from the truth. you don't have guaranteed income over time, they do. you have a short life cycle, they don't. your total assets (at some point) will start to go down. theirs will always increase. you may not get more/more money every year, they typically do. you can't borrow at rates near inflation, they can. it's a whole different economic formula. Guaranteed income?
  16. This should mark the first loss in the Dem column in the Senate: http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&c...Fid%2F147201%2F Only 10 more to go.
  17. So if Brown wins the Senate race in MA.(longshot I know), the word is the Dems will try to wait to seat him until after the healthcare vote in the Senate. .....Dirty politics?.......Nahhh they wouldn't do that...in MA.....In contrast, in 2007 Nikki Tsongas was sworn in at the U.S> House of Representatives TWO days after winning a special election to replace Marty Meehan. But in that case Tsongas' vote was needed to overide a Bush veto of S-CHIP.....It's always different, I know.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) I made the prediction earlier that we would be looking at something worse than the Soviet Union, I stand by that. ^^^^^^. It's not just their property, its the yuan, the way thet count GDP, etc...
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) It's sort of a provocative point. Basically in my lifetime, can you name any economic sector that has undergone massive growth which hasn't been followed by the bursting of a bubble in that sector? Internet, banking, housing, even foreign countries such as SE Asia, energy/commodities, etc. Isn't the expectation now that China grows at 8% a year? Isn't that typically exactly what a bubble looks like? Gov't .
  20. If this isn't the luckiest guy in the history of the world, I do not know who would be: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/07/world/as...rss&emc=rss
  21. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) Chris Dodd to retire. This actually increases the Democrats chances of holding on to the seat, because when the incumbent is polling behind Linda McMahon of WWE fame.... http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/se...step-aside.html This makes 4 Dem Senators stepping aside this year. The GOP has 6 open seats this cycle. CT,DE,IL,MA, and ND so far for the D's.
  22. Dems dropping like fleas. Dodd, Dorgan, Ritter.......
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) This is beyond crude. You want to shoot all of them? Self defense. ABSOLUTELY.
  24. 13 million more of these and we clean up our problem. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/201...hooting-ON.html
