QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) or maybe you just minterpreted the quote... or maybe I did but it doesnt look like he is b****ing about fan expectations to me. To me he is saying the expectations are high and he isnt reaching them atm... and he knows it but is sick of being asked questions about it every game. Then I guess that almost everyone else in this thread misinterpreted the quote as well. He wouldn't have to deal with fans "misinterpreting" his remarks if he wouldn't say anything in the first place. When Jon says stuff like, ""You win a World Series and myself, go out and win 18 games, and of course the fans want to see it every game and want you to win every single game... Basically, that's impossible.", it's almost concescending. Yeah, no s***, Sherlock. You're not going to win every game. Everyone over age 10 knows this. He's also misdirecting the issue: Fans aren't upset with him because he's not repeating 2005... they're upset because he's been awful this year. What he's doing now has nothing to do with the WS or his 2005 stats and for him to even bring it up is just flat-out asinine. What's "dumb" to me is him being sick of answering questions when he has $29 million in the bank. You don't like it, Jon? I'll gladly switch places with you. Jon needs to put up or shut up. If he can't handle answering questions or the way that the fans treat him when he's pitching poorly, he needs to find a new line of work.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) He isnt complaining about fan expectations... You didn't read his quote... Jon is clearly whining about fan expectations and is making himself look like an ass in the process. He's complained about booing in the past as well. If he'd simply not go there, he wouldn't have these problems.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) yessir...it's now on espn, so we get to hear the old guy say such things as ooribe and tada iguchi I can't stand Miller and Morgan.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Its not as much whining as he is sick of answering the same questions.... Then maybe he needs to say "no comment" instead of complaining about fan expectations. Common sense would dictate that a pitcher with a 6.19 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and .310 BAA shouldn't be saying anything negative about the fans at all. Apparently Jon lacks common sense.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) I can't remember a more hated White Sox player except maybe Royce Clayton. The guy is a decent No. 4, 5 pitcher. Why do people hate him so? I don't think anybody here "hates" Garland. People are upset because Jon came into the league with a lot of hype and took forever to develop into a good pitcher. After doing so, he was rewarded with a generous contract and responded by pitching like Jamie Navarro. Jon's not nearly as bad as this year's numbers suggest, but he's not that great either. He has mediocre stuff and gets hit hard when he doesn't locate well or his sinker flattens out. In other words, he has to really be on to be the guy that we saw last year. And as we saw in his last start, Garland also has the tendency to lose focus on the mound when he gets a few bad breaks. It's difficult for fans to defend a guy like that when he says anything at all to the press about booing. I like Jon as a person and hope that he gets through this, but he needs to STFU about fan reaction. Even if it's justified, don't say ANYTHING nevative at all about the fans to the press. That might have to do with the fact that (1) Anderson's a rookie, (2) he's an excellent CF, and (3) he doesn't whine about the fans booing him when he doesn't execute.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) I can't get enough of Pablo, that guy f***in rocks. Mark was fantastic Agreed. Pablo's become my favorite bench player. I love his speed. It's too bad that Mark didn't get the W. He did a fantastic job of keeping us in the game.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) We better go post the score on the Tigers Board. They already know that they can't beat us in a series.
-
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) yep, one mistake sure makes thorton a bad reliever alright I don't think that he was ripping Thornton in particular. We only have one RELIABLE reliever and Thornton shouldn't have to pitch more than an inning.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Leave the guy alone. I don't think he's trying to be malicious. It's definately news we would like to know and be updated on. I mean, we are chasing them in the race. He's giving us info. Leave tigerfan alone. No, this guy's a troll.

QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Tigers off to a good start in Toronto, Inge hits a 3 run bomb. 3-0 Tigers, bottom 2. That's nice, but wrong thread.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) I agree. Hopefully, Thornton can hold the runner on better also. Hopefully, I'm not jinxing this game, but I'm really happy with the way that Thornton's been pitching lately. I thought that he was a real long shot back in ST. Kudos to Matt and Coop.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) You know, as much as Jenks has been used lately, I'm not sure I like leaving him in here. Not that he's going to give up a run, I just don't want to break him completely down. Totally agree, and am glad that Ozzie went to Thornton.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) WCSox, Gload in for Paulie. Oops. Wow... that was an interesting decision. (Sorry, been working while following the game.)
-
QUOTE(jenksd @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I walk thome if I'm cleveland. To get to Paulie? Thome hasn't been hitting well lately. I'd take my chances with Jim if I were Wedge.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) I'm sorry, but I just don't like leaving Mark in after he battled all day, and after he just got taken off the hook. Not at 100+ pitches. Broussard's a lefty - maybe Ozzie wanted that exploit that matchup? Doesn't sound like a bad plan to me, especially considering that he yanked him right after that at-bat. Mark threw about 120-125 pitches. That's a lot, but not dangerously excessive.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Do we know Buerhle's pitch count? Gameday says 109.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Apparently you haven't been paying attention to this season. The pitching part of the pitching and defense equation is worse than it was last year, therefore your reasoning is as solid as water. Again, the Sox are 4th in the league in runs scored. If anything needs fixing, it's the back of the rotation, the middle relief, and Anderson's hitting. Uribe's bat is not the problem. Given that Uribe's career OPS is higher than Cintron's and that he's a much better SS, I'd say that you're the one with the piss-poor reasoning. Cintron is NOT an upgrade over Uribe. The title of your post (" Uribe, sucks at baseball") is further evidence of your lack of baseball knowledge.

My God, how many opportunities has this lineup pissed away over the past month?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) We don't deserve to win. If we don't tie the game this inning, I'll have to agree with you.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) Yep...because I don't have a one game memory. Nor do you have any sense of objectivity. This entire lineup has been bad over the past month or so with RISP. Anderson has clearly been beyond bad, but the problem obviously goes far beyond him.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) This might be the first time I've ever been yelled at for not ripping on a player. If Anderson had been into that situation and grounded into a DP, you would've gone nuts.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) A lot of guys tense up, and get homer/pull happy. That's common in all of baseball though. In other words, Paulie gets a free pass because he's Paulie. Way to be objective. :rolly There's no denying that this team's situational hitting woes go far beyond Anderson and Uribe.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Yep...we can all agree that the position is the biggest hole on the Sox roster since the #5 starter debacle of a few years ago. We can also agree that Anderson and Uribe aren't the only ones s***ting their pants with RISP.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) It's these type of posts that really puzzle me. Last I checked, the only time we're able to score is if our 3-4-5 knocks guys in. It should would help the offense out if our #9 hitter could get on once every century. Last I checked, it would also help if we had a CF who knew how to read fly balls.
