Flag burning amendment headed to Senate floor.
WCSox replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) By the way, STOP IT. The amendment is NOT needed. Not to mention the one to "protect heterosexual marriage" (i.e., ban gay marriage). This isn't what the framers had in mind. -
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Generally any frontrunner in 2006 isn't the frontrunner by the time of the convention. And it really should end someone's political career if a longtime senator can't win reelection in a primary where you don't have to be a democrat to vote in the primary. Given that so few people bother to vote in primaries, the results mean little. And Lieberman is still up on what's-his-face by quite a margin. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) The guy's a flip flopping prick. You think Kerry was a flip-flopper? s***. McCain works in friggin' Burger King with the flopper whoppers he tells. Hell, Hillary would almost be a better candidate, because with her you at least know what you're getting. Hillary would do whatever the polls tell her to do. McCain's lost so much credibility among Republicans that he isn't a factor anymore. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) Won't happen. Too much smut. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't WANT to do it.

I'm a huge Pablo supporter, but he's not a permanent replacement for Pods. I could see a platoon, but Pods still has a ton of SBs and a decent OBP.

Saw the replay of Tracey's pitches to Blalock last night and it really looks like he was trying to hit him... but just wasn't able to. That's pretty pathetic. Hopefully he'll get better command of his pitches down in Charlotte.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Joe Lieberman seems to be someone that people like less the more people see of him - like John Edwards. Maybe among Democrats. Having a more conservative VP to offset a more liberal nominee would have some impact among Republican voters. How much is debateable, though. Who among the Dems would beat Lieberman if he was the GOP nominee? Hillary? Gore? Kerry? Edwards? Neither party seems to have a strong, front-running candidate right now (unless Guiliani would change his mind).

QUOTE(mannyfast @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) You got to look out for you first, team second Apparently you've never played sports before.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Even Walter Mondale would be able to crush the Joementum from a Lieberman/Gingrich ticket. I don't know about that. Lieberman would probably appeal to moderates across the board (most moderate Republicans already like him) and Gingrich would appeal to the more conservative wing of the Republican party.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) I think so. With appeals, perhaps they could push it to some time around the ASG, where you have a lot of flexibility in how to set up the rotation. I think that's a smaller problem than weakening an already questionable bullpen. The Sox need to focus on winning as many games as possible, especially with Detroit playing their asses off right now. I'm all for retaliation, but there's got to be a better way than to risk a suspension to Buehrle. How about hitting the crap out of Rangers pitching tonight and then running up the score Steve Spurrier-style?

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) I agree! Gotta love the OZ! Joo know why I yell at da kid Tracey? CAUSE I'M DA F$@%ING MANAGER, das why!

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) If he really can't hit the batter when he is trying to then he doesn't deserve to be in the majors anyway. That is just ridiculous. How many pitches did it take for Russ Springer to hit Bonds? How many wild pitches did Tracey throw against the Indians last Sunday? Perhaps he didn't find out that his message wasn't relayed until AFTER he decided to make an example of Tracey? I tend to agree with you, but we really don't know what happened.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Why was he out of line for that? He deliberately disobeyed Ozzie. That is disrespectful. He had a job to do and didn't do it. This is what he gets. Exactly. By Sean Tracey not doing what Ozzie said to do he publicly disrespected Ozzie. You wouldn't do that in public. Sean Tracey did. He had whatever he got coming to him. Did he deliberately disobey Ozzie? Tracey has no control and threw inside to Blalock twice. Is it possible that the message to hit Blalock was never actually relayed to Tracey? If Tracey refused to hit Blalock, I agree with you. But we don't know that for sure... and probably never will.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Ozzie Guillen isn't most bosses either. Trust me, I have been chewed out in front of everyone and behind close doors... It happens everywhere. And if your boss is, say, a Distinguished Professor who would have to literally murder somebody to get fired, he/she has the option of chewing anybody out any time they want. I imagine that academia and baseball clubhouses differ from the corporate world in the sense that the higher-ups aren't held accountable for bad behavior.
-
I think that Ozzie was out of line, but I'll say this: For anyone who's never been unfairly chewed-out by a moody boss before, welcome to the real world! It's not fair, but it happens all of the time. And it usually has nothing to do with you personally. Just let it go. Hopefully Tracey knows this.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) I knew some people who saw Ray in a bar after a game on the road somewhere. The people said they were the only real "group" of SOX Fans in the place, it was crowded, and that Durham noticed them and chatted with them and took pictures. They said he also bought a couple rounds of drinks for the whole table, I thought that was very cool of him I happened to be sitting at a large table with about six other Sox fans and Ray definitely seemed happy to see us there... and not in a fake, PR sort of way. Seemed like a guinely nice guy. Caruso was there as well, but he didn't have much to say.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) Cool. Back in '99 I was able to wait on the entire Sox team. I worked at Fahrenheit (now defunct) on Milwaukee across from the old Iggy's. Was pretty cool. Some of the guys were very friendly but I tried not to act like a tool and ask for autographs and stuff. I played it like I was used to that type of clientele coming in all the time. After the fact, Sirotka and Parque came back a few times and had me wait on them. I was at a game in Toronto in '98 and met Ray Durham in the SkyDome bar. Very cool guy, very funny. Also talked to Herm Schneider for a while... REALLY nice guy. Saw Albert Belle in the lobby afterwards. When he saw my Sox shirt, he gave me a nod. Didn't approach him, though. He is one intimidating dude... and built like a freaking house.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) .............hey, I havnt changed at all. Im still the exact same, sox lovin', beer drinkin', music listening, media watchdog Ive always been. Matter of fact, I put my pants on one leg at a time, heh heh BTW, I'm not in favor of shutting down your Media Watch posts or anything. It's just that the whole "victim" thing is getting a bit old. Not playing that card would take a lot of heat off of you. BTW, that's a freaking cool story.
-
I initially read the first post as "Javier Vazquez." Glad to know that wasn't the case. Great trade by KW! A productive, veteran arm in exchange for a non-stud minor-leaguer... a very high-upside, low-riske deal!
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Why are you now frequenting this website? Did the WSI crew grow tired of your media who-ha? Yes. If Hangar would stop playing "victim" and make more posts like this one, he'd have a lot more fans here.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) I really hope that the White Sox retaliate tonight. It seems to me that around the league teams think that they can throw inside and intimidate the White Sox and nothing will happen. It always seems that we get hit several times in a game and then before we do anything we get warned and then we do nothing. We need to take charge tonight establish the inside part of the plate and HIT a Rangers batter. I don't care if it is Mark that does it in the 1st inning and he gets tossed. I will take a loss if it shows the rest of the league that if you mess with us you will be dealt with. I don't think that teams around the league are afraid of retaliation from the White Sox. I care. I'm all for retaliation, but we need to win this series and I don't want our second-best starter getting tossed in the first inning... especially after all of the innings our 'pen has pitched over the past two days.

QUOTE(Jake @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) I think if another party was formed, eventually one party would end up falling out of favor and we'd be back to our two party system. Agreed. America was also very polarized in the late '60s and early '70s, yet the two-party system prevailed. And as much as I hate to listen to the two parties bicker back and fourth, I imagine that three or four constantly attacking each other would be even worse. If Lieberman is interested in making a run for the Presidency, he should stick with his current party rather than run as an Independent. He wouldn't get the vote of the anti-war left as an Independent, but he would get most of it as a Dem simply by default. Lieberman would also get LOTS of votes from moderates on the right who typically vote Republican... especially if the Rep nominee isn't particularly strong (Romney, Bloomberg) or polarizing (Gingrich). On the other hand, if Joe feels inclined to switch parties, a Lieberman/Gingrich ticket could be highly-successful in '08.

Not sure I have the same problem as you, but I bought a pair of plain, low-end Nike tennis shoes a little over a year ago and they were fine for the first six months or so. But then the right one began making a squaking noise when I'd put pressure on the front part (under the toe). I couldn't tell if it was the sole or insole, but it was definitely towards the font of the shoe. I'm glad that I only paid $40 for them, because I was quite pissed. I've since replaced them with a far-superior pair of Rockports.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) Roles IMO shoulda been reversed there if Vasquez isnt gonna sack up and do his own dirty work. Then make Montero come in and do it, Tracey is the better pitcher of the 2. Wow... looks like I missed a hell of a game last night. Agreed that plunking a Rangers batter was Javy's job. But Tracey supposedly threw at hime TWICE and missed both times??? Wow, I know that his control is awful, but still. It's just as well that "Wild Thing" Tracey is going back to Charlotte because he isn't going to be of any help to us this season. But why Ozzie would go apes*** one a rookie like that... wow. That's disturbing. Oh, and Buck Showalter can go f*** himself. He's going to get one of his players beaned in the head tonight.

Did Ichiro ever play CF in Japan? I realize that his strong arm makes him a good RF, but it seems that somebody with his speed, vision, and general outstanding baseball IQ would be better-used in CF.
-
QUOTE(Beltin @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) I hate to think we have another Jim Parque on our hands. I agree that Ozzie saw a trend as well and acted accordingly, but if the WS bullpen is required to pitch 4 innings every time Jon is on the bump, it could take a toll on the entire staff. The rest of the starters would have to pitch really deep into games and there is no margin for error when someone comes in to relieve Garland. If this is the strategy needed with Garland, it does not bode well for the rest of the team. If we're fortunate enough to make it to the WS (or even the ALCS) again, Jon will likely be pitching long-relief out of the 'pen.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) It was over Dye's head because Dye froze for over a full second, then took off again and just barely missed the ball. If Dye makes that should be catch, it's 5-2 with a man on 1st and 2 outs. And also, the Rangers don't score in the 2nd if Pods makes the should catch on Wilkerson's ball. He did freeze briefly, but it wasn't exactly a "over full second." Dye was also playing in because of the runner on 3rd (Jon's fault) and the ball landed on the edge of the warning track. Could he have made the play? Perhaps, but that ball was hit pretty hard and we're talking about a big, lumbering RF here, not Anderson. If Dye did make the catch, the runner from 3rd would've tagged and the end result (score-wise) would've been the same. With the way that Jon was pitching that inning (a walk, a 1B, and a ball crushed to the RF warning track), it's probably best that he left at that point anyway. I didn't see the first four innings, so I can't comments on Pods' play.
