  1. Damn you, Brian Anderson! You're the reason that we're not scoring runs!
  2. The good news is that this is Sabathia's last inning.
  3. Geez, that was almost as bad as a strikeout.
  4. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) You can't have 2 defensive specialists hitting under .200 playing at the same time. Much less, hitting back-to-back. You can if the rest of your offense is pulling enough weight that your squad ranks 4th in the league in runs scored.
  5. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) But Anderson's defense will be good for about 2 "saved" RBI's every 15 games. Considering our other options for CF, it's going to be a lot more than that.
  6. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) This is a good AB for Anderson. Way to run the count up. If anything good came out of that AB, he ran up Sabathia's pitch count. We need to get him out of there. When CC's on, as he is now, he's very tough.

    Uribe

    QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) I love the caveats you use in defense of Uribe: He's GOOD...for an 8th place hitter; He's GOOD...if we're only counting defense; Uribe's Good...when compared to a bench player. So, we're supposed to permanently replace him with Cintron? LOL, that's a joke. How about A-Rod? Or Tejada? Apparently you weren't paying attention last season. Our offense was below-average last year (9th in the league in runs scored and 11th in OBP), yet we dominated because of pitching and defense. This season, the Sox rank 4th in the AL in runs scored, 6th in OBP, and 4th in slugging. The pitching staff is getting plenty of run support.

    QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) You suck at being a Sox fan. ^^^
  9. Wrong, Jon. The problem isn't that you're failing to repeat last season. The problem is that you're pitching like Jamie Navarro. You're ranked 43rd in the league in ERA among starters and first in HRs allowed, for Chrissake! And you have a problem with the criticism??? :headshake
  10. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) No, they're not. Mormons are Christians. Either way, they're "dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb." I love that episode...
  11. I'll take Anderson's inability to hit over our bullpen's inability to hold leads any day.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) I'm saying for this team those are the types of numbers you should be gettting from your 5th starter at worst Not only that, but for someone who is being paid to pitch like a #3.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) A 5th starter gets you a 4.50 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. If you're lucky. In the AL, I'll bet that a lot of #5's are in the 4.70-4.80 range.
  14. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) Jermaine.Dye. ^^^
  15. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Honestly I dont care if someone takes Amphetimines, its not a big deal...Steroids are 10 times worse Amphetamines can be pretty freaking bad for your health as well. And speaking of players who obviously used performance-enhancing drugs, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Brett Boone.
  16. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) I don't know if I can say converted, but I turned two yankee fans into being White Sox fans as their #2 team. Hell, the one guy wound up getting World Series tickets for us through his Dad's connections. My wife's been a Yankees fan forever, but started rooting for the Sox as well shortly before we got married. She'll always be a Yankees fan first, but last year made the Sox her "official" second-favorite team.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) I don't think defense cost him anything. If Mack makes the correct plays, Konerko's snoozing doesn't come into play at all, and there would have been no additional outs recorded. Rodriquez wouldn't have tagged up. Guillen wouldn't have been in postion to try and score. I was at the game, and Garland got hit hard again last night. He struck a few guys out for a change, but he was very fortunate not to give up 6 or 7 homers. The defense let runners advance when they shouldn't have twice in that inning and both of those runners scored. That certainly didn't help. But, of course, the two-run homer was all him and it pretty much put the game out of reach. You're dead-on about Judy getting hit hard last night, though - two 2-run bombs and a few very deep flyouts. I thought that the one to CF that Mack caught against the wall was gone. He looked very good at times, but he got killed when he missed (pretty much the story of his season).
  18. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) In other words, he pitched bad? Well, he went 7 innings and gave up 6 earned runs. But if you account for the poor defense, only about 3 of those runs were his fault.
  19. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) As for Garland, YES, he needed to MAN UP and not allow all the nonsense in the field to affect him, but he did. Our "defense" let us/garland down big time. Garland has always been a head-case, someone that has to be catered to and kept an eye on, which is why hes a perfect #4 or #5 starter. Little things start to affect him and he loses his cool. Hes always been like that. Maybe for his starts, I put out the best defensive team out there. Agreed. Jon pitched well last night... right up the point where he gave up that second two-run dinger. That put the game out of reach. If Jon keeps giving up this many homers, he'll never be anything more than a #4. But the (lack of) defense is what really killed us... and has been killing us.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) I'm not exactly in that boat, but my fandom sure has changed. I feel like I'm insanely more bitter after any loss this year than I ever was in the past. And sometimes I hate the fact that I (and several of us) are not totally pleased with a 36-23 record. In any other year, we would be pretty damn pleased with that kind of record at this point. Our expectations certainly have risen and will stay that way for quite awhile now. I just have to say it was a lot easier being the optimist of years past and believing a World Series trophy is possible, versus expecting a World Series trophy. I need to turn my attachment level down a few notches to my teams, so losses don't get to me too much. Because this team definitely owns a great deal of emotions during the months of April through October. ^^^ I'm "content" in a sense because of last season, but am certainly not apathetic. The expectations are certainly a lot higher this season. I'm not going to pull my hair out in disgust if they don't repeat, but I'm riding them hard to continue playing at an elite level. The organization turned a corner last year and I want to see them stay the course. They have the opportunity to put together a Yankees-like dynasty. Hell, even if they only succeed in building a Braves-like dynasty, it'll be a step forward from the 1920-2004 era. Despite the extra attention and emotional investment, I'll take this year's high expectations over being giddy last season because the Sox were actually playing .600 or .650 ball. I'd rather be angry about not playing to expectations than being happy because my team is exceeding low expectations.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) And I still say Fields is untradeable until we know Crede's long term status better. In the unlikely event that a player like Lidge or Shields becomes available next month, I wouldn't say that Fields is untradeable. But a stud would have to be involved for Fields to be moved. Izturis and Lofton don't fall into that category. I foresee KW signing Crede to a long-term deal in the offseason and Fields moving to LF to replace Pods.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) I don't assume anyone is clean. If you made me say one person off the top of my head who I don't think did anything illegal, I would say Paul Konerko. He might have the most unathletic looking body in all of baseball. And no, I don't think Pujols necessarily did anything bad, even if his trainer was involved. He seems like a good guy, and I'm not going to assume he's guilty yet. I was actually suspicious of his 2004 vs 2005 stats, as well as many other players. I'd be upset if Paulie, Thome, or JD were involved in this crap. Not necessarily because they wear the black and white pinstripes, but because they're all class individuals and great teammates who play the game the way that it should be played. Same goes for Pujols, A-Rod, Jeter, etc. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 07:15 AM) Wondeful. Once again, since baseball and especially the players union has taken the "easy" way out for all of these years, all it takes is a rumor to bring down the rep of a player. Could Pujols be juicing, sure, heck anyone could be, and we wouldn't know it. But since baseball avoided doing the right thing for all of these years, we have to put up with this stuff. At this point, I'd be willing to endure another work stoppage if that's what it takes to implement comprehensive testing. This has gotten ridiculous.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:23 AM) Hawk complained about the gun throughout the series. Strange that they can get a true reading in the park, but they cannot on the TV. The Comcast gun seems to be about 2-3 mph slower than the ballpark's gun.
