QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) The question is, if Trestman had all this great experience with so many people in different levels, then why is he only getting his first shot at HC now? Seems strange that it has gone this long. That seems to be the million dollar question.... The owner of the Allouttes had this to say on that (Though you wouldn't expect an owner to say different) So he sounds like the offensive Lovie. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) I believe he was only an OC at NC State. Youre right, my bad. Interesting decision to turn down an NFL OC job to be a college OC...All that lead me to this article... http://www.theacc.com/sports/m-footbl/spec.../020105aaa.html Those are 3 pretty good coaches to learn from. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) I wonder if this is more of a guy they might be looking at as a potential OC option. Would be really odd to pull this type of hire. From what I read it doesn't look like he'll take an OC job...Sean Payton wanted to bring him in as his OC in 06 but he turned it down to be a head coach at NC State...Then he went to Canada. Here's a good article on him deserving an NFL HC job.. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12399910 -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) I'm going to say you are largely overstating his impact on San Fran and believing he is going to turn this Bears offense into the 95 49ers offense is pissing into the wind. Well lets just leave it at the last line of my last post, I like the way he utilizes the RB into the passing game. With Forte being considered one of the better RBs in the league in the pass game I'd like to see him utilized even more. It keeps the defense on it toes. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) I am just going to assume you are as high as a kite I'm actually 2 weeks clean lol. I don't see why not, I'm not saying thats the numbers our guy will put up, that's the numbers the SF guys put up. They had that one monster target in Rice, we have Marshall, they utilized the RB in the passing game, I think Forte is one of the best receiving RBs in the game, they used the FB in the passing game as well, I think Rodriguez can effectively fill that role. I know Cutlers not Young, and calling him Young Lite behind the current line is silly, but behind a good line I don't think "Young Lite" is that big of a stretch. The 02 Raiders had Garner catching 91 passes. Let's just say I like the way he gets the RB involved. -

I want him. Grab a TE and turn this offense into the 95 9ers. (He was the OC) Cutler as Young Lite Marshall as Rice (122 Rec 1800 yards 15 TDs) Forte as Loville (87 Receptions as an RB, Forte is a fantastic receiver) Rodriguez as Floyd (47 Rec as a fullback) -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) The QBs that Trestman has trained is not an inspiring list. It's not but the fact that they go to this guy to help their draft stock is a plus. more notes on Trestman Reached Super Bowl XXXVII as Offensive Coordinator/QB coach of the Oakland Raiders Reached two AFC Championship games as Offensive Coordinator/QB coach of the Oakland Raiders (2002) & Cleveland Browns (1989) Twice coordinated the #1 passing offense in NFL (49ers in 1995, Raiders in 2002) 13 Playoff appearances coaching with the Browns (Bernie Kosar), 49ers (Steve Young), Cardinals (Jake Plummer), Lions (Scott Mitchell) & Raiders (Rich Gannon) Coached NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2002 (QB Rich Gannon) Served as Offensive Coordinator during Jerry Rice's record-setting season of 1,848 yards and 15 TDs in 1995 Guided 49ers to the #1 and #2 ranked passing offenses in the NFL as Offensive Coordinator in 1995 and 1996 Directed the Cardinals offense to their 1st playoff victory in 51 years -

Looking at his wiki page he looks like a great offensive mind. Wonder why he's never had a HC gig. So he's also got a connection to Jay. He was also the OC under Gruden when Gannon was the MVP. and he's got a book called "PERSEVERANCE: Life Lessons on Leadership and Teamwork" He could turn out to be a good hire. -
Good win by the Bulls. How many guards do the Bulls need? Can Cook play SF? Rose/Robinson/Teague Rip/Belinelli/Hinrich Deng/Butler/Cook?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) Rated as 7th worst T in football among all of those that played in at least 25% of their team's snaps. 3rd worst in pass blocking. Kind of absurd that they rated his run blocking so positively but his pass blocking was SO bad that it undermined his positive entirely. When looking at our run game splits, we are positive when we run behind our RT (Carimi mostly), TE (they give Spaeth a very positive rating for blocking), and FB. LT was neutral, all 3 interiors very negative. This website rules and it is even more comforting to know that Emery sees this too. I'll post more interesting things as I find them for all to see. I'll take some requests too if you're curious. Is there anything on there saying how he was at Guard? QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) Jake Long rated exactly in the middle of the pack among tackles, just one spot ahead of J'Marcus Webb. Every other year they've done these statistics though, he's been absolutely awesome and number 2 more than once. A downward trend, though. Ryan Clady is in the top 4, though. He was rated as terrible last year and good to very good every other year. Where did Beatty end up on that list? If both him and Long hit the market I'd lean towards Beatty. He should come cheaper and could be just as good. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) According to PFF (the source Emery cited in his press conference), these are the yearly pass blocking rankings for Jay Cutler's offensive lines as a Bear: 2009 21st (woo!!!) 2010 32nd (last) 2011 30th 2012 27th In 2008 as he threw for 4500 yards, his Denver line ranked 6th. This was PFF's first year of compiling proprietary statistics like these. Like my last post said, Cutler will go as far as the O-line goes. You can't expect him to live up to the hype or put up the same numbers he did in Denver behind the line he's had the last 4 years. -

I'm late to the discussion but I wanted to drop in my 2 cents on Jay and Lovie. A lot has been said about Cutler and not living up to his potential/hype. It's hard to argue that that doesn't have to do with the O-line. Here's a fun fact, in his 2 seasons in Denver Jay Cutler was sacked a combined 38 times, the same amount he was sacked this year. You can't expect him to live up to the hype when he's behind the line he's had here in Chicago. Lovie is a well above average coach, I wish they would have kept him and just brought in a damn good OC. He won the division in 2010 and got the 2 seed in the playoffs. Had injuries not crippled the team last year I think they could have managed to go 3-3 or better to end the year and make the playoffs. Then this year he managed a 10-6 record where his team was in all but 1 game all year. 04 was terrible but it was his first year and it included the likes of Jonathon Quinn, Craig Krenzel, and Chad Hutchinson as the the QB. 07 was bad but it had its share of QB controversy itself. 09 wasn't good but it was Cutlers first year. 05-Playoffs 06-NFC Champs 08- Just missed the playoffs again with Orton as our guy. I'd even go as far as saying Lovie is a damn good coach. Just needed to pick a better OC and stay healthy. -

I'm glad Emery mentioned profootballfocus.com, reading their signature stats is fun stuff...If you get bored, like I so often do go check it out. Kinda sucks it's not up to date (just first half stats, I believe you have to pay to get up to date stats) but it's still nice to see where some of our guys rank in a plethora of different unique stats...I like that Phil uses it to get an unbiased opinion on his guys. Stuff like- Kellen Davis was hands down the least productive TE (no shock their) Chris Conte was the 4th most efficient tackler amung DBs Carimi and Webb both rank in the bottom 15 in pass block efficiency, giving up a combined 77 pressures allowed Cutler was pressured 38% of the time, only Kolb 42 and Vick 43% we're pressured more. I know a lot of that comes at no surprise. I'm only on page 2 of 5(?) I'm sure there is more to be learned here -
So who's the odd man out when Rose comes back? Hopefully someone wants Rip or Kirk, if not I hope they just release Rip. I only say that because Kirk has a 2 year contract.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) I'd be shocked if he was still there at 20 in round 2. I know Eifert is the guy everyone has going as TE#1 but I personally would prefer Ertz. Depending on who KC takes #1 and who is there when round 2 starts, I wouldn't be opposed to taking him This is all based off the drafttek mock draft, which has Ertz going #58 whereas the Bears draft at #50....Mock drafts are never right though but it's really the only thing to speculate off of. They have KC grabbing a CB in the 2nd. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) Only so many needs can be left to the draft, unfortunately, and O-Line depth is likely to be a major one there also. Mock time. In a perfect world, meaning a good player at the position is there I'd like to see the bears draft (We all know I have no life so I'll go in depth here) 1st Round- OT Even if they get a top tier LT like Long, Clady, or Beatty it'd be nice to have a new RT as well, moving Webb to a backup role. Mock pick (using Draftteks mock)- Eric Fisher 6'8" from Central Michigan 2nd Round- LB/TE This all depends on how Emery views Shea McClellin and whether or not Urlacher is back. Lets assume 54 is gone. Where does the staff view Shea? If they keep him at DE then we'll need an LB. If they move him to an LB spot then we might wanna address DE latter on and garb a TE here. I'd really like to see Shea moved to an LB position, he's got + speed, and he just didn't really look like a starting DE. Briggs-Roach-Shea is what I'd like to see next year if 54 is gone. Mock pick- Zach Ertz 6'6" outta Stanford 4th Round- OC At this point, in this perfect world, the starting OL is Fisher-Louis-Garza-Carimi-Long(or another top tier LT).. You have Webb, and James Brown as backups at the OG and OT, Edwin Williams is a FA so a backup to Garza would be needed. Mock pick- Braxston "Cave Man" Cave Notre Dame's OC 5th Round- DE Izzy and Pep are getting old and in this situation I'm moving Shea to LB so let's try and develop one while we still have those 2 to learn from Mock Pick- Datone Jones UCLA- looking at his strengths and weaknesses he could benefit from workin with Pep. Since draftteks mock only goes 5 rounds, I'd like a speedy WR and a CB in the 6th and 7th. -

Hopefully the 4 mill Kellen Davis and Matt Spaeth make will be gone as well....Urlacher, Hester, Davis, and Spaeth all being gone would clear up about 16 mill, Long is gonna be lookin for around 11. If all the Bears do this offseason is sign Long and resign Melton, I'll be ok with that. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 04:01 AM) The Bears OL troubles are systemic. Simply adding a Jake Long or Ryan Clady wont fix anything long term, and may even make the situation worse by having all that money tied up in one player. Like others have said it absolutely will. I'm not worried about locking all that money into one player if it's clear he's exactly what the team needs. Grab Long, or Will Beatty would be a good option for a little cheaper, then draft another OLineman in the first and hope he can pan out right away and the line should be tremendously upgraded from it. They also get Lance Louis back next year. 1st rounder-Louis-Garza-Carimi-Long would be a solid line, and with the weapons the Bears have they'd great benefit from it. -
