  1. Yuniesky Betancourt at the dish now after that weak RBI double
  2. Washington is really cutting it close with Strasburg.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Quit with all the poop jokes! Reading this whole thread was quite entertaining.
  4. I do not know Rios' full preparation schedule, attitude, etc. but I do know each player gets ready to perform differently. My understanding is Julio Franco was a serial catnapper and attributed his longevity in the game to his ability to stay relaxed and let the game come to him. I doubt that is what ex-teammates are insinuating with Rios, but unless you are a HOF player, you should probably take care of yourself and set the best example possible in the clubhouse. Hopefully Rios would take a cue from such examples, then. Maybe not. Time will tell.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) If this same incident happened at USCF, there would be an entire section of people pointing out the lowlife who threw the beer. They would be gone so fast their head would spin. You forgot to add that it would still be on the front page of both papers and get attention from national media outlets. There would be discussions on the problems with the Sox, their field, their neighborhood and their fans and what can be done to mitigate the history of lawlessness with this team going all the way back to the Black Sox throwing the 1919 World Series, if not earlier. I assume I am overreacting as a Sox fan, but the Wrigley fans have gotten a free pass far too many times for incidents like this. Each time the Ligue thing is brought up rather than a laundry list of similar crap that happened on the north side. It gets tiresome.
  6. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) This Ump HATES pena. Why, is he a White Sox fan?
  7. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:57 AM) But he'll have to DH, because Thome died of old age Death is not something to joke about...unless it's a midget.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) Bozo Circus is on the air . For real?
  9. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) Hey, don't sleep on the Dirty Sanchez. !Ole!
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:48 AM) Wow, worst game of his career. We've chased more pitches out of the zone tonight than any game I can ever remember. That is saying a lot considering BA is no longer on the team.
  11. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:45 AM) If Pods gets DP'ed.... Donkey Punches are awesome.
  12. QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:27 AM) Geoff Blum homer in the 14th and Buehrle comes back out for the save Like that's really likely to happen...
  13. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) T-Bone just smoked Ichiro Rare strikeout by Suzuki.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Elvis impersonator Jamie "Aaron" Kelly is the guy for the past few years. Knows every song ever recorded by Elvis. Not sure that is a good thing.
  15. Barring excitement on the field, Elvis Night is the best game to attend every year. It is always packed, it is typically a nice Friday night, the crowd itself is fun, and it is relatively late in the season so there is usually building pennant excitement. The promotion itself is silly and contrived, but that is what it is meant to be. It is an absolute blast in my opinion and I will be there again this year.
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) Yep, and that's (unfortunately) what'll likely keep him out of Cooperstown. Mark can dominate over the short-term, but he's never really been dominant over a full season or a 2-3 year span. Mind you, he's put up a number of very good seasons, but he's just never been considered the best at his position at any point in his career. Don Sutton? The 300 victories helped him a ton, though. I got the impression that he might not have made it at 299. Edit: Just looked up his stats. Very similar to Buehrle but did get the 21 wins one season. Never won a Cy Young and fewer All-Star appearances. Still too early to discuss HOF for Mark, but if he sticks around and stays as consistent, 300 victories is not far fetched, which means neither is Cooperstown. Today really gave his chances a huge boost, though.
  17. -Game 2 2005 WS -Today (got there very late, but who's counting?) -Game 4 2005 WS -Game 2 2005 ALDS -Game 163 -Last Year Back to Back to Back to Back HR
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Ex-Sox player. Nice. I am so glad we traded him for Julio Cruz when his value was up. Imagine what we would get for him now.
  19. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) 6. Pirates (hope they never have another winning season again.) Okay, I'll bite. Why the Pirates? Is it because their suckitude has been so helpful to the Cubs winning percentage over the past 15 plus years? I was pleased to see I really wasn't inclined to hate the Cubs (the fans do annoy me though). I only chose the Twins (the dome), although I probably overlooked the Red Sox (the fans and ESPN as well). I wish the A's were on the list. Between them and the Twins, I can't tell you how many agitated, sleepless nights I have had watching to White Sox blow leads late at those respective ballparks. Staying up until midnight to watch those types of endings made me developed a strong dislike for either of those franchises.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) They were really bad for the first couple of months of the season. They went crazy for the last 2/3 of the year. Yep. I vaguely remember them being on Monday Night Baseball versus the Indians(?) in mid July to finally climb into first place in a relatively weak AL West. At the end of July they were still only a few games over break even. Then they went on an absolute tear and ended up winning 99 games overall and the division by 20 games. The midseason trade of Tony Bernazard to the Mariners for Julio "Juice" Cruz really helped balance the lineup and the starting pitching was bolstered by a strong second half performance of Floyd Bannister. The first half swoon was the reason for only Kittle getting selected.
  21. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Well, Radke (148) is 4th on the all time Franchise Wins list (Walter Johnson 417, Jim Kaat 190 , Bert Blyleven 149). He was very good on a lot of crappy mid-to-late 90's teams (20 wins in 1997, the team had 68) and 5th in innings pitched and 5th in strikeouts. The guy was a fan favorite, and his last season (2006) when he was pitching every 5th day with a torn labrum will go down in legend with Twins fans. He also had a pretty awesome changeup, but was prone to giving up the gopher ball ( ) Is he Twins HoF worthy? yes. But these teams HoF's are mostly a marketing tool to get fans in the seats. No offense, but to link Walter Johnson to the Twins franchise is a ridiculous stretch. I know they moved from Washington, but the Twins franchise is an entirely different entity than their predecessor Senators.
  22. How far would I go? China. If the Cubs and Sox were in the world series, at best, I would watch on TV but I would want to be as far away from the city as possible if it ever happens. If I lost my mind and decided to go to a game, I would NOT wear the Cubs hat just so I could get a ticket. A whore by any other name is still a whore.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) I expect to see some very good things from Jared Mitchell over the next couple of years. I can see it now....Three years from now, Hawk. "Little Carlos Gomez at the plate, Hell of a player, right there, hits the ball sharply to right field, sinking, uh-oh HE WENT TO JARED!!!! YES! HELL YES! What a catch by The 'Jewel Thief'" In keeping with dumb radio jingles, maybe Hawk gives him a name in honor of Jared, the Galleria of Jewelers?
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) do you ever get this weird feeling in your stomach when the sox are leading by one or two going into the 8th inning at the metrodome? Every time. Get the same feeling around 11:30 PM when the Sox play in Oakland.
  25. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) I didn't know there were gay and straight names. Do you know how I know you're gay? Because you are too gay to realize the difference between gay and straight team names.
