  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) Wrigley usually takes on a miserable form after the rain. Double header tomorrow? The Sodfather put in a new field there recently, though. Really ripped down to the absolute bottom to give them a major league field. It might help.
  2. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Oh to hell with it. I can't take the rejection. I quit! *sobs uncontrollably*
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) He won't be back before the All-Star Break if at all. Reasons?
  4. I have no problem with the Cubs players but I really do not care for the myth of Cubdome and the Wrigley love that the fan base spews and their announcers constantly chatter about. For that, I refuse to attend games at Wrigley Field or spend any money that might support the team. I know someone else will fill the void but I just do not want to be another contributor of funds to an organization that gets WAY more love and attention than it deserves. It is just too easy for them to raise money and I won't help the cause, no matter if it is pissing into the wind or not.
  5. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) You say that like its a bad thing. Vaginas are your friend. I couldn't agree more. I luv me some vagina. I wanted to use a different word starting with a "C" and ending with a "T", but I was worried I would get in trouble or offend so I used the medical term for safety.
  6. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 02:55 AM) I don't really enjoy the "rivalry" between the Sox and Cubs fans, as it seems to bring out the worst in both fanbases, but I just leave that alone. I used to go to the "crosstown classic" games when I could, but I got tired of it so I stay away now. That. Nothing worse than being at the park when all of Chicago gets drunk and dukes it out in the stands.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) How do you boo Ozzie and KW? Seriously? How is that possible? Unfortunately for Wise, the best way to boo OG and KW is to boo the product on the field. We all like to think that OG understands how bad Wise is, but the logic-defying use of Dweezy indicates otherwise. I do not boo at all unless I see something really awful like poor sportsmanship, but in this case, what else do the fans have to show their displeasure? They can not come to games, but many of us are locked into season ticket packages and are forced to watch Ozzie mismanage the whole Wise and BA situation. On that note, no matter how bad BA may be hitting at any point in time, he is still better than Wise no matter who is pitching. He also is a far better defender. One other thing, I love the new trend on Soxtalk to b**** about the b****ing. All the complaining about the team can get tiresome, but it seems if half a thread is complaining, the other half is someone reprimanding the complainer for complaining. Isn't that just contributing to the problem in a way?
  8. Okay, so here's my question. If he maintains this form over the next few weeks but the Sox offense continues to waste quality starts, is Jose more valuable as a trading chip or finishing out his contract with the Sox (ends this year, right)? I know a lot of factors come into play, but let's just say the Sox are still in 3rd place and about 5 games back. Does anyone think Jose can bring back any decent trade deadline haul?
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) That's actually the second hit he's ever given up on 3-0. Source The last hit he gave up on 3-0 was back in 1995. Thanks. Very impressive.
  10. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:07 AM) Don't know if this was mentioned anywhere else on soxtalk, but AJ's 9th inning hit was the first time in Trevor Hoffman's career that he has given up a hit on a 3-0 count. Can we get a source on this? I am having trouble confirming and/or believing this.
  11. REALLY?! That is pretty unbelievable considering the number of innings thrown in his career.
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) long live communistic gamethreads.....err go Sox Wasn't going to mess with any part of yesterday's format. Besides, communism is a good thing. It eliminates choices and let's us live our lives without making difficult decisions.
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) I like the format of this thread title. Very nice. Very communist Thanks, Comrade.
  14. Not sure they'll get this one in. Weather.com says 100% chance of rain through the game.
  15. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Per the ever-reliable Wikipedia... Youkilis is the son of a Jewish jewelry wholesaler of Romanian heritage. Interesting twist to the story found in an SI article from October 19, 2007: Youkilis' family history reads like a Michael Chabon novel: In 19th-century Romania males were conscripted into the military when they reached their 16th birthday. The Cossacks in the region weren't known for their tolerance of minorities, so many Jews tried to avoid enlisting in the army. Youkilis's great-great-great-grandfather -- nobody is sure what his first name was, but the family name was Weiner (pronounced Winer, actually) -- escaped to Greece, where the family had friends. After a year or two, according to family lore, he became homesick and returned to Romania, but in order to avoid the army, or jail, he passed himself off as a Greek by assuming the name Youkilis. So it turns out that Youkilis, who first attracted the notice of most baseball fans when Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane dubbed him Euclis, the Greek God of Walks in Michael Lewis' 2003 bestseller Moneyball, isn't Greek at all, which is a great disappointment to the many Hellenic fans who have approached him. "It's kind of sad," says Youkilis. "Greeks are very proud of their heritage."
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) That movie was Coppola's coming out party. (Sophia) Decent film but still does not make up for her butchering of The Godfather Part III.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) I have it, haven't read it though. Is it good? I really enjoyed it. It is interesting how the main character takes on the role of the storyteller/muse like in traditional Greek mythology. Pretty entertaining, though.
  18. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) http://birmingham.barons.milb.com/news/art...sp&sid=t247 I don't understand... the ASB hasn't even arrived in their league yet. What does this really mean? Don't they do half season titles in a lot of minor leagues?
  19. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Yeah a greek Jew. Per the ever-reliable Wikipedia... Youkilis is the son of a Jewish jewelry wholesaler of Romanian heritage. I used to think he was Greek as well, but the spelling of his last name goes against preferred spellings of Greek surnames. It looked like he could be Lithuanian, a la another Greek-sounding non-Greek, Alex Sinelius (In loving memory of Ursula). There once was a thriving Greek Jewish population in the north of Greece, I believe in Salonika/Thessaloniki but the Nazis did a number on them. There was also a big Jewish/Greek-Jewish community in Smyra/Izmir in Turkey but they were pretty much wiped out by the Turkish troops during the war with Greece in the 1920s. If anyone has read Middlesex, there is reference to it in there.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 06:05 AM) lol, I so wanted to see a thread like this. Glad to deliver for you. I was wondering how many posts would be up by the time I logged in today.
  21. I was at the game today and from my seats in section 103 in RF, I was very unimpressed with "Slayer". Considering how many at bats he had in college and the minors, it was hugely disappointing that he did not go 5-5 with at least 3 home runs and 7 RBI. He also did not have one Web Gem all day. I think it is time to end this experiment and trade him before his stock drops further. Thoughts?
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) i'll take injury prone but with ability over Corky - healthy and bad and Toby - unhealthy AND bad Nice to see a gradual improvement in the backup catcher position. It has only taken a few years. Within three more years, we might even trade for a backup who is capable and healthy enough to be a starter on several other teams.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 28, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) And there I was, listening to Murph about how Zambrano shouldn't be suspended because he didn't initiate contact. Bulls***. Somehow, Lawrence Holmes also found it fair to compare Carlos Quentin to Carlos Zambrano. Saying how Quentin injured himself by getting mad. Too bad it was at himself and not at the umpire. He also didn't throw the bat into the crowd and then grab another to whack the s*** out of a cooler. Nice analogy Lawrence. For some reason, I though Holmes was a Sox fan. Am I mistaken?
