I'd say you're right, but I think Chrisitans have put a bad spin on religion. Have you ever been to Texas A&M? yikes....
-
you are 100% correct. I think it speaks volumes about American Christianity and the prostitution of the Faith. Go see it. Roger Ebert said it was an important movie because it's a teen movie that actually had something to say. go figure, huh?
-
two thumbs up on both of those remarks, young cheat.

didn't see a review for this either... I got back from the Tennessee leg of the tour and needed to veg in front of the silver screen, so I saw "Dodgeball" last nigth... it was great. There were some perfect moments that made this movie stand above the rest of the "stiller, and cohorts" movies. Chuck Norris, Lance Armstrong, and Luck of the Irish are among the funniest parts. Go see it, you'll be quite pleased compared to moderately funny flicks like "Starsky and Hutch", "Along came polly", or "Big Bounce". Great movie, IMO.

Saw it today and I really liked it. What "The Passion of the Christ" is to most Christians, "Saved!" is to Cwsox. (IMO) I appreciate the striation of characters, starting with the drastically evangelical Mandy Moore, to the middle of the road Patrick Fugit, and onto the wheel-chair rebel Macaulay Culkin. I saw it for what it was, a satire and a look at some of the stereotypes and realities of religion and moral brickwalling that Evangelical Christians are sometimes prone to. I could name people I know first hand that could have played all of the roles in that movie. The most interesting thing about the movie, however, is the Producing credit given to Michael Stipe, of REM fame. Makes me wonder where his head is at. From the "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" record... " can't say that I love Jesus. That would be a hollow claim. He did make some observations And I'm quoting them today. "Judge not lest ye be judged." What a beautiful refrain. The studio audience disagrees. Have his lambs all gone astray? Call me a leper Call me a leper Call me a leper "You are lost and disillusioned!" What an awful thing to say. I know this show doesn't matter. It means nothing to me. I thought I might help them understand But what an ugly thing to see. "I am not an animal" Subtitled under the screen. Call me a leper Call me a leper Call me a leper When I tried to tell my story They cut me off to take a break. I sat silent five commercials I had nothing left to say. The talk show host was index-carded. All organized and blank. The other guests were scared and hardened. What a sad parade. Call me a leper Call me a leper Call me a leper. "

thanks y'all. it's all pretty vivid in my head, but life happens and you move on with it. To add a little detail, we were driving a Suburban with a trailer. That's the miracle...this girl's life was spared. I thank God for that.

that ain't right cdub. I'm trying to avoid working at financial institutions, but I'm saving for the "diamond chip on a ring", as stef might describe it I miss all of you!

Sunday night around 12:45 AM we were driving to a gig and got into an accident. The short story was that this girl, who was with about 30 people (yeah, still scratching my head at why 30 teens were out on a sunday night) walked into the road and didn't see us coming. We tried to swerve out of the way, but she ran in front of us. We hit her on our passenger side front grill gaurd. By a miracle only, she is alive, but we haven't heard much more than that. It was singlehandedly the most f-ed up experience in the world, but the event was surrounded by angels and miracles. I thank God that this girl's life was spared. My buddy was pretty shaken up, but the three of us in the car as well as 3 other independent witnesses said that the girl caused the accident. Regardless, we cancelled our gigs for the week and we'll be back on the road on friday. I just wanted to pass along the story to you and ask for prayers and thoughts for this girl and my friend who was driving. I can't tell you in words what it's like to be apart of this situation, but I'm glad that my God is in control of things and I'm not. Alex

I'm just not sure why the ACLU doesn't PR that a little more. Most people see them as liberal hippies who care more about the right to screw a chicken than a small group of kids who want to meet once a week at their public school to pray.... that's all I'm saying.
-
and it wasn't me
-
mark it down...the ACLU actually sides with religion....man that must have sent them into a bitter depression

I thought this was interesting. My father is a veteran of public health scene for the last 30 years, PhD from UNC at Chapel Hill, and so on with the credentials. He's a pretty conservative dude, loves FoxNews, for example. His thoughts on gay marriage are that we should allow them to happen because it there is little documentation on the realities of those kinds of relationships. gay couples have nearly 200% the "divorce" rates as heterosexual couples and with this information, health and family services have the data helpful to make decisions on such things as adoption. The truth of the matter is that fewer and fewer people take the establishment of marriage seriously. I am completely against any marriage of two gay individuals in a Christian church...it's 100% not in line with doctrine and anyone who argues against that is a heretic and has no place in the church. However, I think that gay couples should not be discriminated against in the public setting. There's a difference between someone living in sin, i.e. you or me, and someone preaching false gospels...well, you know. lots there to discuss, but I'm just curious on mainly the first part. sox fo' life

you want abortion rights, gun rights, flag burning rights, gay rights? this fits HAS to fit in there somewhere. it's a bitter pill for both sides.

Outside the Lines with Bob Ley

yeah, it sounds like this kid will do fine in the NBA, I think if he wants to customize his logo on his own jersey, I'd be fine with that, but no way can you change the entire league. he'll figure it out. I really liked with terry cummings had to say. great show -
never watched the show before, but tonight was Great. Clearly the NBA logo won't change, but the NBA needs more kids like this. If nobody else wants him, the spurs will take him "Man on a Mission" Wednesday, May 26, 2004 11:58 p.m. ET on ESPN When this year's NBA draft order is determined during tonight's draft lottery, it may very well define the future of a young man named Dwight Howard. As the top high school player in the country, he could be the No. 1 overall pick in next month's draft. He leaves high school with a package of can't miss court skills that have drawn comparisons to Tim Duncan and Amare Stoudemire. He also has a deep-seated religious faith that defines his life. But this 18-year-old basketball phenom wants to take things a step further. Howard wants to imbue the NBA logo with the Christian cross in an attempt to spread Christianity. Tonight on Outside the Lines, Mark Schwarz tells the story of a young man who will rely on that faith as he enters the very adult world of the NBA -- and tries to change it. Bob Ley hosts. Guests: Terry Cummings and Stephen A. Smith
